Thread 1 Thread 2 Thread 3 Thread 4 Thread 5 Thread 6

I am very slowly working on consolidating the gathered information from previous threads into easier to read formats but it’s slow going. In order to make use of the below form and join in I would suggest reading thread 1 and at the very least the following info sheets (provided they apply to you):

Basics of an Actives Routine

Where to Start

Anti-Ageing Info sheet

Adult Acne Info Sheet

For those who are taking a peek and wondering what this all about, we mostly discuss a bit of advanced skincare here with a perspective of seeking out the right ingredients (rather than the latest new shiny product and all its empty promises) for our particular skin needs. Distinguishing the acid toners from the actives whilst avoiding the truly unimpressive and harmful ingredients with a hope to achieve a bit of anti-ageing, alleviate irritation and sensitivities with some idle chat in between. Deviations on this thread are mostly my fault. Grin

If you're in need of some advice coming to grips with your skincare routine please don't hesitate to ask, we don't bite, only occasionally sting with a bit of Biologique Recherche P50 now and then Wink. Just make sure to state clearly what your concerns and needs are in as much detail as possible, skincare is highly individual and a random recommendation for a 'good' product will be completely different from one person to the next.

Make sure you've read the earlier threads (or at the very least the first one and the linked docs) so we're not being asked to answer previously raised questions. It takes a lot of time and effort to answer these queries and often the answers can be found in previous threads, but if you still have questions relating specifically to you, use the following form to make life easier on us . Please note, the form is not here to generate a routine for you, sometimes it involves product recommendations but mostly it's there so we can answer a specific question without having to go back and forth endlessly. Also, not everyone will have answers and sometimes we can't answer you at all. We're only a bunch of amateurs that can respond by suggesting what we would do in your place, for any severe conditions please seek out professional help.

Ahem, and finally a little note on spending. I'm well aware these threads cause many to reach for their wallets and spend with wild abandon. There can sometimes be a bit of a frenzy surrounding the excitement around a newly discovered product or on the back of great improvements when someone reports back. This is all great, it doesn't however, mean everything that's a sudden miracle for one will be it for you. Usually, it's a light bulb moment for connecting the right skincare ingredient with an individual experiencing a specific problem. Take your time to mull over decisions and question whether it's right for you too. Skincare is highly individual, it's a slow game that should cost mostly in patience, input, education, and perseverance. Please don't make it cost you financially needlessly.

Enid - yep. I started with the 2% and then moved to the 1% which is the stronger one

EnidButton · 26/04/2017 22:22

1% is stronger than 2%?

JDSTER · 26/04/2017 22:22

Yep, I've done 50 shades routine for clearing sfs. I do it about every fortnight and as stainless says no grits but a clearer complexion overall so worth doing. I use cosrx BHA first, then any clay mask (used up superfacialist and a REN one) Bo I think you recommend glamglow one to me as a good one to try but not tried it yet.

I'm also using TO vit C every morning, niacinamide (maybe twice a week after cosrx bha) and TO retinoid 2% which I'm finding good. No irritation at all. I do keep hoping I'll find a star product that will really reduce my pore size. I'm sure if you met me you wouldn't think they looked bad at all but its probably the thing that bothers me most. It's interesting isn't it- the only person we see on here is olli. I bet we all have a mental image of what we look likeGrin

Anyway, any suggestions for a change or addition to routine that would address pore size? I am thinking of a different retinol? Hmm

EnidButton · 26/04/2017 22:23

I picture you with very shiny swishy dark hair JD And very polished looking. Grin

Ollivander84 · 26/04/2017 22:26

Yes the 2% is retinoid I think and the 1% retinol so different formulation

JDSTER · 26/04/2017 22:28

Ha ha, I have blonde hair and I wouldn't say swishyGrin
I'm liking the "very polished looking" I can if I try!

RubyGoat · 26/04/2017 22:39

I've tried that 3-step pore treatment for blackheads / SFs, a few times. First with the PC BHA - no result. Then I switched to the COSrx BHA, & it works. I use the Cattier rose clay mask & Una Brennan vitamin C cleansing oil (which is my normal oil cleanser). I always put 2 layers of BHA on, with a 10 minute gap, before applying the clay mask. It doesn't get rid of everything immediately but it's slowly improving them. I use the BHA alternate nights to try & shrink my pores & keep them clear. If you do try it, you need to make sure you massage the area for a couple of minutes to get it working, in tiny, gentle, circular movements. Don't press too hard, it doesn't work any better if you do.

I'm definitely getting some improvement from the BR P50W. It's been about 2 weeks (I think) & I'm using it alternate nights. Definite improvement in skin texture & tone. No stinging except where I hit an occasional dry patch.

userallusedup · 26/04/2017 22:52

I'm all ears about reducing pore size too, my skin is much clearer than it was but it's still very pore-y, it has that sort of orange peel look.

I might try the 50 shades routine, I have TO SA and Glamglow supermud, would they work?

Enid I use TO retinoid 2% (with az acid) every second night and Vit c in the morning and been fine, but I have oily/not sensitive skin & I'd been using the ret for a few months before I started with Vit c. I think the 2% (confusingly!) is pretty gentle, I ordered thinking it was the stronger version but glad I did now as it's allowing me to build up tolerance & I'll move to the 1% in another couple of months.

Olli do use any other actives like SA or Vit C in your routine? Or is it best to ditch anything like that when you're using the 1%?

Ollivander84 · 26/04/2017 22:58

I've just started using vit c in the am
The nights I don't use the 1% I use HA + niacimide + azealic acid (none of which I can spell!!!)
Would say go very easy, apply to bare dry skin and pop moisturiser around any sensitive areas. I started with every other night and it was too much for my skin

olderthanyouthink · 26/04/2017 23:05

Olli thats amazing. What do you do, btw?

Thanks bo. I think the pads might be better than a liquid cleanser (thinking about how much hand wash and body wash that kid can get through Hmm) and it'd be like wiping his face with a wet wipe.

Face theory moisturiser M1 vs CosRx Oil-Free Ultra Moisturizing Lotion? FT seems to have loads good sounding of stuff or would the simpler one be better?

Might be a while before he starts as DM has landed herself in hospital (random infection on her leg, no idea how) so DB is bouncing between DF and respite care and then when she comes home I doubt she'll feel like doing more than bare minimum. DF whines about DBs face being dry but I doubt he'll help deal with it, can barely pick out clothes or provide food that isn't toast Grin.

My face still feels tight and it's quite flaky, after cleansing it really shows but serum, moisturiser, SPF cover it up.

JDSTER · 26/04/2017 23:12

That's helpful Lego. Where do you get Cattier masks from?

Ollivander84 · 26/04/2017 23:21

Do as in job or...?

EnidButton · 26/04/2017 23:27

Ah I see. Thank you all, that's all really helpful. Smile I'll have a read up tomorrow.

Grin JD

olderthanyouthink · 26/04/2017 23:44

Olli LOL sorry job, you said something about a shoot?

Ollivander84 · 26/04/2017 23:47

Ohh I was all confused then!! Part time I work as a plus size model

Ollivander84 · 27/04/2017 03:09

Just spotted in my late night browsing lots of REN products on TK maxx. Also a trial kit of Pai skincare

RubyGoat · 27/04/2017 08:33

JDSTER - I got my Cattier mask from Amazon but they are way cheaper from EPP.

Bo - I do want a hand cream with SPF as I've realised that while my face doesn't show my age (36), my hands do. However I've been looking at ingredients & all the chemical sunscreens I've looked at contain Butyl Methoxydibenzoylmethane, also called Avobenzone (in America I think), there's a couple of other names for it but those are the main ones. It's the chemical that irreversibly stains your clothes orange on contact with water... so I suspect a mineral sunscreen may be the way to go. (I can't see the full ingredients list for that Medik8 cream so can't check the above, also it's a bit more than I wanted to pay.)

JDSTER · 27/04/2017 09:04

Lego EPP?

Dulcimena · 27/04/2017 09:09

Thanks for the TKMaxx tip Olli

Who was talking about Astalift recently? There are a few different sets on the site too.

Wellhellothere1 · 27/04/2017 09:52
