Thread 1 Thread 2 Thread 3 Thread 4 Thread 5 Thread 6

I am very slowly working on consolidating the gathered information from previous threads into easier to read formats but it’s slow going. In order to make use of the below form and join in I would suggest reading thread 1 and at the very least the following info sheets (provided they apply to you):

Basics of an Actives Routine

Where to Start

Anti-Ageing Info sheet

Adult Acne Info Sheet

For those who are taking a peek and wondering what this all about, we mostly discuss a bit of advanced skincare here with a perspective of seeking out the right ingredients (rather than the latest new shiny product and all its empty promises) for our particular skin needs. Distinguishing the acid toners from the actives whilst avoiding the truly unimpressive and harmful ingredients with a hope to achieve a bit of anti-ageing, alleviate irritation and sensitivities with some idle chat in between. Deviations on this thread are mostly my fault. Grin

If you're in need of some advice coming to grips with your skincare routine please don't hesitate to ask, we don't bite, only occasionally sting with a bit of Biologique Recherche P50 now and then Wink. Just make sure to state clearly what your concerns and needs are in as much detail as possible, skincare is highly individual and a random recommendation for a 'good' product will be completely different from one person to the next.

Make sure you've read the earlier threads (or at the very least the first one and the linked docs) so we're not being asked to answer previously raised questions. It takes a lot of time and effort to answer these queries and often the answers can be found in previous threads, but if you still have questions relating specifically to you, use the following form to make life easier on us . Please note, the form is not here to generate a routine for you, sometimes it involves product recommendations but mostly it's there so we can answer a specific question without having to go back and forth endlessly. Also, not everyone will have answers and sometimes we can't answer you at all. We're only a bunch of amateurs that can respond by suggesting what we would do in your place, for any severe conditions please seek out professional help.

I specifically [want help with/am looking for a product to/am curious about trying]:

Ahem, and finally a little note on spending. I'm well aware these threads cause many to reach for their wallets and spend with wild abandon. There can sometimes be a bit of a frenzy surrounding the excitement around a newly discovered product or on the back of great improvements when someone reports back. This is all great, it doesn't however, mean everything that's a sudden miracle for one will be it for you. Usually, it's a light bulb moment for connecting the right skincare ingredient with an individual experiencing a specific problem. Take your time to mull over decisions and question whether it's right for you too. Skincare is highly individual, it's a slow game that should cost mostly in patience, input, education, and perseverance. Please don't make it cost you financially needlessly.

Lego, I got your PM, UK isn't an issue. I'm well aware none of you live round the corner from me but for some unfathomable reason you all do live in London in my head. Will try to send it out today or tomorrow (usually takes about a week to arrive).

WRT workouts, it depends on how vigorous of a workout you do. It's never a good idea to wear heavy makeup and sweat it out under some heavy cardio so in that case, cleansing makes sense before and after (as it remains sensible to get rid of accumulated sweat) I'd probably do an oil cleanse before and a second cleanse after. If, however, it's an hour of moderate yoga then I'd just be reapplying a bit of sunscreen at the end.

WRT EGF it's official name is usually a variation of human-oligopeptide (then numbers), the human bit is often disguised in the name because it's confusing to the consumer. In the EU it would never be allowed to be sold if was from human sources. It's not the same as human epidermal growth factors but chemically it is identical (as I understand it, the science is rather complex and therefore often gets misrepresented and misinterpreted). It's a more complicated peptide that breaks down into amino acids, and as far as I understand it, produces similar results like Retin-A/Retinol without the drawbacks and possibly in an accelerated manner, also helps with the healing of scars and stops the skin from thinning.

The Bioderma makeup topper is the Hydrabio Moisturizing Anti-UV Mist SPF30 as JDSTER has just linked. I'm not sure if you can remove the nozzle (never tried), I honestly think most people's issues with the nozzle stem from the fact that it's not a continuous spray but a pump and release manual action, once I got used to that after the first couple of tries I've had no issues with it whatsoever and it has happily lived in my bag ever since (does look a bit banged up though Blush )

Tsnmummy08, see above wrt name of EGF, but I have to say the Bioderma INCI is not dissimilar in having it very low down on the INCI very tempted by AF now, goes off to Google

INCI: Glycerine, Aqua, Sodium hyaluronate, Tromethamine, Sodium chloride, Hordeum vulgare seed extract, EGF (Transgenic barley sh-oligopeptide-1).

Don't know if anyone has posted but this was reduced to about £6 in boots, I spotted it but didn't look properly. SPF must

Sorry, missed out JDSTER's question regarding Medik8, I've always ignored them on the back of price (much like Skinceuticals). The Betagel was always a bestseller of theirs for acne prone skin but they've since reformulated and apparently it's no longer any good. Dr. Sam is always really complimentary of their Retinols, and I like their system of building those up in doses and when discounted are quite affordable. Some of their stuff has fragrance but they do seem to be moving away from that. I like the look of their SA pads too, 2% and no fragrance but a bit pricier than PC I'd think with frequent use (cutting them in half would probably see them go further). Their hero product is some Vitamin K1 cream for rosacea, and they've recently launched a Retinol cream (more general anti-ageing with Vit C derivative in there too) that utilises the same next gen Retinol as Verso -but confusingly both companies claim to hold unique hold of the ingredient Confused. It's also more expensive than Verso so it's a bit lost on me but if I see that dropping heavily in price I might give it a go. I'm thinking of getting one of their Vit C products (CE Thione), always discarded it on price but have since found it at a reasonable price, www.facethefuture.co.uk/shop/ seems to do good prices. The cleanser I mentioned earlier is £14 for the full size and they ship for free over £15 in the UK so it has suddenly put the whole brand a bit more on my radar as a result. Bloody confusing though as it's sold at premium prices elsewhere but gets heavily discounted on the net in places (a bit like Dermalogica and Neostrata).

Current Niacinamide product is the P50 PIGM, and I still have a bit of the Manyo Factory Niacin (but this isn't doing much really). Will probably buy something from the Naruko Magnolia line again, I really enjoyed their Night Gelly but it felt too cold in the winter to use but the toner looks interesting too and I'm equally tempted to get the Sidmool Niacinamide/Arbutin thing that I mentioned to Pupsie and she ended up purchasing.

JDSTER I would like the teas if you still have them. My Husband and I like alternative teas and i sometimes make my own Smile

Ktown · 25/04/2017 15:08

The bio deems spf is a disaster. A white mist sticks to tiny facial hairs so you get a very weird look.
The garnier one is much better.

mintmagnummm · 25/04/2017 15:59

I'm on day 3 of eucerin spf 50 for face and so far so good! I'm really liking it so hope my skin continues to tolerate it. I'm still using the hylamide subq then face theory moisturiser and letting them soak in while I clean my teeth etc then apply the spf

JDSTER · 25/04/2017 16:40

Thanks for your response Bo re medik8 and niacinamide. As you say, I've seen Dr Sam rec the retinols
Is the Garnier spray a broad spectrum spf? I'll have a look at it when I'm shopping on Friday.
cook pm me with your address and I'll pop the teas in the post

Ollivander84 · 25/04/2017 16:40

Not a clue Grin I glanced at it as I was looking for a face mist/fixing spray and that's all I saw of it

EnidButton · 25/04/2017 17:17

Is the Medik8 vit C serum a good one to get? (Combi, dehydrated, acne prone.) thinking of getting the vitamin K one for DH to try.

EnidButton · 25/04/2017 17:17

Posted too soon...

So I thought I might try the vit C one myself.

EnidButton · 25/04/2017 18:41

Epsom salt bath lovers: how much do you put in? Fairly deep bath.

Dulcimena · 25/04/2017 19:33

I had seen that mineral Bioderma Bo but the reviews I saw were not kind! I haven't tried it myself though, have you?

A bit gutted because I think the jojoba in the Mommy SPF has caused some problems. I have a few weird superficial spots on my nose and a couple of nasty lumps on my chin. I think it's a product/hormonal conflict, so all is not yet lost.

mint I meant to post before - I don't know this blog but the Skincare 101 posts explain the diff ingredients pretty well. hayleywells.co.uk/category/beauty/skincare/ the search function isn't coming up on my tablet but you can search for skincare 101.

Dulcimena · 25/04/2017 19:34

Olli what are the goodies??

mintmagnummm · 25/04/2017 19:59

Thanks for that dulci

EnidButton · 25/04/2017 20:00

I always think surface small spots are caused by products and deeper painful ones are either hormonal or a reaction to something in the diet.

I've had some surface ones this week. Unsure why. Only different thing is I washed my flannels in ordinary fairy powder with a bit of conditioner. Have one back to using Ecover non-scented, sensitive powder now.

EnidButton · 25/04/2017 20:00

*gone back

EnidButton · 25/04/2017 20:08

I've decided it's Summer prep time btw. The footner is coming out tonight!

I'm also looking for whitening strips. I know Crest do them and you have to get them from the US but can't remember the name. I've started a thread but I'm probably just going to get told off for using them. Anyone know what they're called please?

Dulcimena · 25/04/2017 20:16

Enid they're just called crest whitestrips aren't they? I haven't used them for ages , amazon and ebay both clamped down on them I think.

OpenMindedSceptic · 25/04/2017 20:59

Checking in. Hope you are all well! I've been neglecting the thread due to hols/ visitors/ life in general but promise to be better!

Ollivander84 · 25/04/2017 21:03

Dulci - vit c serum and a primer

AlfaMummy · 25/04/2017 21:07

Hello ladies, newbie here. I've been reading the threads for a while. Really enjoy all this. At 35, my cleanse, tone, moisturise, mask and SPF regime needs some help. I've forever had tiny blackheads/SF on my nose; facialists, steam, exfoliation make no difference. I've recently tried pixi GT and PC Skin Perfecting BHA liquid. No real difference unfortunately. Just hoping someone could recommend an alternative. Normal combo skin, slightly oily T, no acne. Normally use LIz Earle C and P or Elemis solid oil to cleanse and an Elemis foaming face wash in the morning. Any help would be appreciated!

EnidButton · 25/04/2017 21:46

Dulci I could see a few different ones. I'll keep looking, might recognise them when I see them. Thanks.

Tsmummy08 · 25/04/2017 22:04

Well I've ordered the Bioderma and LRP SPF sprays (and few other bits) from Escentual... basically I need something to use over makeup when the sun shines and these will have to do, however inelegant the results!!!

Will report back :)

Ollivander84 · 26/04/2017 14:18

Where's botemp at?! Look!!!
Sorry, little overexcited here. I am leaving the house with no skin makeup on. No foundation, no concealer, just my SPF. I think I have cracked it

You look fabulous Olli. I don't wear makeup every day but I probably wouldn't bother at all if my skin was like yours!

AlfaMummy - sounds like you have similar skin to me. Which products do you use now - is it literally just the cleansers you mentioned? Which toner, moisturiser, occasional treatments do you use? SPF regularly, just for sunny days or never?
