Thread 1 Thread 2 Thread 3 Thread 4 Thread 5 Thread 6

I am very slowly working on consolidating the gathered information from previous threads into easier to read formats but it’s slow going. In order to make use of the below form and join in I would suggest reading thread 1 and at the very least the following info sheets (provided they apply to you):

Basics of an Actives Routine

Where to Start

Anti-Ageing Info sheet

Adult Acne Info Sheet

For those who are taking a peek and wondering what this all about, we mostly discuss a bit of advanced skincare here with a perspective of seeking out the right ingredients (rather than the latest new shiny product and all its empty promises) for our particular skin needs. Distinguishing the acid toners from the actives whilst avoiding the truly unimpressive and harmful ingredients with a hope to achieve a bit of anti-ageing, alleviate irritation and sensitivities with some idle chat in between. Deviations on this thread are mostly my fault. Grin

If you're in need of some advice coming to grips with your skincare routine please don't hesitate to ask, we don't bite, only occasionally sting with a bit of Biologique Recherche P50 now and then Wink. Just make sure to state clearly what your concerns and needs are in as much detail as possible, skincare is highly individual and a random recommendation for a 'good' product will be completely different from one person to the next.

Make sure you've read the earlier threads (or at the very least the first one and the linked docs) so we're not being asked to answer previously raised questions. It takes a lot of time and effort to answer these queries and often the answers can be found in previous threads, but if you still have questions relating specifically to you, use the following form to make life easier on us . Please note, the form is not here to generate a routine for you, sometimes it involves product recommendations but mostly it's there so we can answer a specific question without having to go back and forth endlessly. Also, not everyone will have answers and sometimes we can't answer you at all. We're only a bunch of amateurs that can respond by suggesting what we would do in your place, for any severe conditions please seek out professional help.

Ahem, and finally a little note on spending. I'm well aware these threads cause many to reach for their wallets and spend with wild abandon. There can sometimes be a bit of a frenzy surrounding the excitement around a newly discovered product or on the back of great improvements when someone reports back. This is all great, it doesn't however, mean everything that's a sudden miracle for one will be it for you. Usually, it's a light bulb moment for connecting the right skincare ingredient with an individual experiencing a specific problem. Take your time to mull over decisions and question whether it's right for you too. Skincare is highly individual, it's a slow game that should cost mostly in patience, input, education, and perseverance. Please don't make it cost you financially needlessly.

Popping up to say... PC 15% off their Resist range for those adhering to bo skin regimes....

Goes back to lurking.

Stuckinstressville · 12/05/2017 13:10

Olivan me neither ... had second in 5 months erpc three weeks ago and didn't sleep post op despite being knackered! Hope you got some shit eye.

Lurking was boring

Myneaux · 12/05/2017 13:40

Can anyone help?

I've just bought The Ordinary retinol 2%, Vit C, Hylauronic B5 and the moisturiser.

Planning on alternating the retinol and Vit c (pm). Should I follow up with the Hylauronic and moisturiser each time or just use in the am?

I still have the nip and fab pads- when would be best to use them?

Feel like a need a chemistry degree to get my head around it!

eversions · 12/05/2017 14:14

Sending positive thoughts your way bo, Olli and Enid Flowers Hoping you all feel better soon.

Also thank you for the links, bo. The Amazingly sample pack looks awesome, that will be useful to try before committing to the more expensive purchases.

Also, I was searching for "Kohaku-Hada" on Ebay, so the results didn't show up. I'm tempted to order it from Amazon.co.jp only so I can order more Japanese things to make the shipping worth it... My strange fascination with Japan might spiral out of control however!

Ollivander84 · 12/05/2017 14:21

Turns out I actually had cauda equina Blush so pretty lucky they operated when they did!
Did a full routine this am and makeup, nurse was laughing at me and having a nosy at my TO and acid stuff

iknowimcoming · 12/05/2017 15:01

Hello - looking for some advice/help please on what products to buy to get me started please

Skin type: dry/combination

Approx age (range): 46

Primary skin concern: general ageing, red thread veins on nose, milia (sp) under eyes (possibly eye cream related?)

Routine : very slack Blush

AM : warm flannel, eye cream, moisturiser

PM : oil cleansing balm, flannel, eye cream, moisturiser

Makeup : very rarely tinted moisturiser, eye makeup

Occasional treatments: not really

Things I've tried in the past with disastrous results: n/a

Things that are really working well for me now: n/a

Any dietary/health concerns/pregnant: currently on a health kick - lchf 16:8, aiming to lose 2 stone ish

What I'm willing to spend on a single skincare item: eg. >£10, £10-20, £20-50, £50-100, no limits. Ideally 20-50

I specifically [want help with/am looking for a product to/am curious about trying]:* recently swapped from Elemis products to boots protect and perfect due to ££££ and not impressed, day cream feels too sun creamy iykwim, and I seem to have more milia, so would like something suitable for sensitive eyes, but better quality preferably without the price tag of Elemis (although I love it Sad). Ideally would like some suggestion for products to try Avene, Liz Earle maybe - I'm not too clever at this stuff sadly!

Stuckinstressville · 12/05/2017 15:57

Shut eye.... clearly not shit eye.

yongnian · 12/05/2017 16:30

Oh dear olli I thought they had ruled cauda equina out originally??

EnidButton · 12/05/2017 17:34

Hope you got some shit eye.

Properly laughed out loud. Grin

Flowers Olli

Ollivander84 · 12/05/2017 18:13

Yeah they did! Then I saw my notes on discharge and it's on there

Pupsiecola · 12/05/2017 18:28

That's deeply upsetting Bo. And Enid. Flowers.

Cardinal, I might try that Vit C. Just for a comparison against TO as I have nothing to compare it to really.

Tsmummy08 · 12/05/2017 21:11

Just checking in again - I can't keep up at the moment....

Flowers for Bo and Enid and glad to hear you've had a successful op Olli - no wonder it took much longer than the original 90mins if it was CE after all!!

Pupsie really interested in your surgery experience as I wonder whether I'll go down that route at some point. I've got very hooded eyes and my dad's are pretty bad, although tbh I find my undereye bags more bothersome... I've been having Botox for the last 10+ years (with a break of 3 years for TTC, pregnancy and BF) so I'd happy to answer any questions.... It's just the area between my eyebrows because I look like a right moody cow otherwise! Grin And had filler in some fine lines around my mouth but wouldn't bother again.

ohgoonthenjustonemore · 13/05/2017 14:09

I'm just coming out of the shadows to report that I've had my hair cut today ☹️...even after showing my Pinterest pic and verbally confirming what exactly I wanted, my new 'do' is horrific !! I'm now heading back into the shadows to purchase a cap Smile

yongnian · 13/05/2017 17:10

Oh eek that's not a great way to find out...thank goodness your surgery was done before yesterday's nightmare though!

olderthanyouthink · 13/05/2017 18:27

Tee hee shit eye Grin

ohgoon Flowers

I so don't want to get my hair cut now.

I've been using TO Squalane at night and I think its eases the dry tight feeling when I use it in the AM too but I think it might be causing little spots on my cheeks.

EnidButton · 13/05/2017 18:35

At this rate we'll all have hair down to our bums by this time next year. My haircut fear is spreading!

As today is the last day I can moan about it...one last thing...I've realised I went to the wrong salon. The one recommended to me has a name almost the same and I misheard! Dawned on me at about 3am last night. 🙄 Think something like 'The Sun Salon and The Sunny Salon.' What a tit.

Don't lurk ohgo Maybe we can also share hair growing tips for the next few years months. I think if mine stays nice and shiny and I keep it in good condition it won't be so bad. Sorry you had a bad experience too. Flowers

Right. I'm not allowed to moan about mine anymore.

Olli How're you today? Not too sore I hope. BrewBrew

Bo Hope your weekend is going ok. Flowers

EnidButton · 13/05/2017 18:35

Older Your hair salon looked good! Cling to them. A good stylist is worth their weight in gold.

Ollivander84 · 13/05/2017 19:01

Up and awake Grin feeling a bit faint so am on the sofa. Incision is sore and it's so hard not to bend!

yongnian · 13/05/2017 19:15

enid haircut fear has been happening to me for the past year....usual hairdresser went on mat leave, leaving me in the allegedly capable hands of another stylist whom I knew had worked there at least three years, so thought I'd be safe.....went to replacement not long after my previous cut, in order she could see what was what and follow it....man did she butcher it!!! I've had to wear it curly for the past year as the layers were so blunt and short and vowed not to return until after my usual stylist's year-long mat leave...hair is now looongggg...the year has passed and my stylist is back...but still haven't persuaded myself it'll be ok to return...it looks crap now too, apart from about half a day after I wash it...so so need to go back....we could set up a mutual support thread.....

botemp · 13/05/2017 19:39

Oh no is our thread cursed Shock Pupsie ruuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuun!

OP posts:
userallusedup · 13/05/2017 19:41

Olli I'm glad the op went well but sorry to hear you're feeling sore and faint, take care and rest up Flowers

Bo and ohgo I am sorry about the haircuts Sad why oh why do hairdressers not listen to us Angry. I have long thick hair which is like a red flag to a bull for some hairdressers to start 'experimenting' instead of doing what I want. It looks fine when they style it but it's impossible for me to recreate myself and I end up with a triangle of frizz. I've started going to a budget place that does a dry trim to have a couple off inches of the length every now and again, and taught myself how to do the side fringe and layers from YouTube.

Cardinal my mum uses that Vit c you recommended and gave me a sample to try, it does feel nicer to apply than the TO one so I might purchase. Though I'm getting on OK with TO Vit c and it's cheaper - will wait till TO is used up and then decide.

Pupsie thank you for sharing your photos, I've been interested in that procedure for some time as have very hooded lids but I'll probably wait a few more years, my thinking is the older I am when I have it done the longer it will last.

Tree I like the Amazonian clay powder foundation and the tinted pressed mattifying powder from Tarte. I do have some eyeshadows, eyeliners and mascaras that came in those infamous QVC TSVs and they haven't irritated my eyes, but although I get sore eyes from external sources (cats, pollen etc) I don't usually react to makeup. From IT cosmetics, I like the CC cream and celebration foundation. The bye bye pores powder is a very good mattifier but makes me look a bit ghostly, I have to apply it under a powder foundation or bronzer.

In other news, my bioderma nude touch has arrived and I LOVE it! It's more like a foundation than a sunscreen so I can skip foundation completely, it mattifies really well and the doré colour is perfect for me Smile. Thank you Bo for mentioning it here as I'd never heard of it before and it's not widely available. I got my first one from Amazon but I've ordered another from Easyparapharmacie (much cheaper) along with LRP redermic r eye & cicaplast hand cream.

LordWontYouBuyMeAMercedesBenz · 13/05/2017 20:07

Hello again everyone! Hope you don't mind, I like this thread so think I'll stick around. You ladies are all so clued up on skin care and I've learnt so much from you in just the last week just from reading all your posts! Bo I purchased some spf as suggested and have been trying out some of the products.

Face Theory aha/bha cleanser this is much gentler than I expected and so far my skin seems happy with it. I've been using it in the morning and then the nip & fab pads at night, followed by the Pai oil then just my usual moisturiser for now. Don't want to introduce too much at once. I have the ordinary retinoid 2% and the ordinary vit c 23% which I'm looking forward to trying soon.

Can anyone recommend a good night cream I can try once my skins got used to the products I've bought so far? I want something that will make my skin feel nice and soft and make it look nice and glowing when I wake up if possible!

Thanks everyone for any suggestions Smile
