Thread 1 Thread 2 Thread 3 Thread 4 Thread 5 Thread 6

I am very slowly working on consolidating the gathered information from previous threads into easier to read formats but it’s slow going. In order to make use of the below form and join in I would suggest reading thread 1 and at the very least the following info sheets (provided they apply to you):

Basics of an Actives Routine

Where to Start

Anti-Ageing Info sheet

Adult Acne Info Sheet

For those who are taking a peek and wondering what this all about, we mostly discuss a bit of advanced skincare here with a perspective of seeking out the right ingredients (rather than the latest new shiny product and all its empty promises) for our particular skin needs. Distinguishing the acid toners from the actives whilst avoiding the truly unimpressive and harmful ingredients with a hope to achieve a bit of anti-ageing, alleviate irritation and sensitivities with some idle chat in between. Deviations on this thread are mostly my fault. Grin

If you're in need of some advice coming to grips with your skincare routine please don't hesitate to ask, we don't bite, only occasionally sting with a bit of Biologique Recherche P50 now and then Wink. Just make sure to state clearly what your concerns and needs are in as much detail as possible, skincare is highly individual and a random recommendation for a 'good' product will be completely different from one person to the next.

Make sure you've read the earlier threads (or at the very least the first one and the linked docs) so we're not being asked to answer previously raised questions. It takes a lot of time and effort to answer these queries and often the answers can be found in previous threads, but if you still have questions relating specifically to you, use the following form to make life easier on us . Please note, the form is not here to generate a routine for you, sometimes it involves product recommendations but mostly it's there so we can answer a specific question without having to go back and forth endlessly. Also, not everyone will have answers and sometimes we can't answer you at all. We're only a bunch of amateurs that can respond by suggesting what we would do in your place, for any severe conditions please seek out professional help.

Skin type:

Approx age (range):

Primary skin concern:

Routine :

AM :

PM :

Makeup : eg. no/light coverage/medium coverage/heavy coverage

Occasional treatments:

Things I've tried in the past with disastrous results:

Things that are really working well for me now:

Any dietary/health concerns/pregnant:

What I'm willing to spend on a single skincare item: eg. >£10, £10-20, £20-50, £50-100, no limits.

I specifically [want help with/am looking for a product to/am curious about trying]:

Ahem, and finally a little note on spending. I'm well aware these threads cause many to reach for their wallets and spend with wild abandon. There can sometimes be a bit of a frenzy surrounding the excitement around a newly discovered product or on the back of great improvements when someone reports back. This is all great, it doesn't however, mean everything that's a sudden miracle for one will be it for you. Usually, it's a light bulb moment for connecting the right skincare ingredient with an individual experiencing a specific problem. Take your time to mull over decisions and question whether it's right for you too. Skincare is highly individual, it's a slow game that should cost mostly in patience, input, education, and perseverance. Please don't make it cost you financially needlessly.

Let IT grow

JDSTER · 07/05/2017 10:56

pupsie I know your question wasn't directed at me but I've been through a couple of bottles of NIOD copper. It has a water like consistency so you apply it on bare skin (this is what Deciem/NIOD advises) and can be followed by a hydrating serum like HA. I'm not sure what else you're using? Personally I don't like to use more than 2 serums at a time so when I was using NIOD I used copper then their multi molecular weight HA (half price at the moment as they have a newer version coming out, as someone has already mentioned). Then followed by moisturiser and spf. It can be used morning and night.

botemp · 07/05/2017 11:02

Let IT grow sounds like a terrible Elsa rendition, otyt Wink.

That's utter shit Enid, how is it looking today? I just booked in with a new hairdresser next week and am now even more scared.

I don't know if this author has any scientific training in the relevant field (I assume he has some but whether that qualifies him to objectively peer review it is something I can't assess) but wanted to include it regardless as it's an interesting delve into fungal acne and more comprehensive than anything else I've seen on a rather neglected condition (especially of those who suffer from sub derm and dandruff too) on and is usually difficult to diagnose.

BBB's Beauty Business News

Sali Hughes' column on sunscreens for oily skin - should point out the the Anthelios spray really isn't going to get you the necessary protection you'd want in a daily sunscreen and really is a top up product. The Avene one sounds interesting although it does contain fragrance (my main pet peeve with most of the Avene lineup).

Tiny tip I keep meaning to post! If you have fair eyebrows and you're shaping them, get a mascara (doesn't matter if it's a crap one) or tinted brow gel. Comb it through your brows but slightly above and below too
It colours every tiny hair so you can see to shape them. Same with tint, tint first, shape after

EnidButton · 07/05/2017 12:38

Thank you for the hair tips. I'll try humming Let it Grow, Let it Grow...to myself. I've given myself bad anxiety today stressing over it last night so I've tied it back and trying hard not to look at it. I suspect it looks worse as I've slept on it. long hair was very low maintenance and looked good with little effort.

Mainly today, I just want this awful anxiety to go.

Mint I think you did say similar yes.

Dulcimena · 07/05/2017 13:02

Sorry about the hair Enid. Like everyone else is saying singing, let it grow. Do you think it's just the shock? Always takes me a few days to adjust when I've had more than a trim.

Bo thanks for the links, will be checking those out later. The Dr Sam ones esp look good.

I had a bit of a TK Maxx rummage yesterday and found a load of Make Up Forever, Illamasqua, Mac, Nudestix and Chantecaille (Shock) in my local. All appeared to be properly sealed and untested. The MUFE Smoky Stretch mascara is brilliant, really impressed, esp for 7 quid. I've had my eye on their Camouflage Cream palette for years and as was £8, I picked that up too, impressed so far.

In other news, I posted a few weeks back that I thought the fragrance of the Palmers AHA body lotion had changed again, for the better. I stand by that, but after 2 weeks of daily use I don't think it's as effective as it used to be. Either that or my KP has got more difficult. Is anyone else using it atm and can comment?

Ollivander84 · 07/05/2017 13:23

Dulci - I'm still on an old bottle that stinks Grin so I haven't tried the newer version

botemp · 07/05/2017 13:30

Thanks for that Dulci, was planning a quick stop by TKMaxx today anyhow and now have even more incentive. They did have a few MF things last time I was there but sadly all very manhandled Angry. Hopes for lots of lovely untouched Chantecaille bits.

I nearly put in a video from Hot & Flashy about mineral sunscreens in the SS with you in mind but the majority she didn't like and the ones she did would be hard and/or costly to source (and most still contained silicones). Did see a new one pop up on Ratzilla : Vintorte Mineral UV pricey, contains silica but not silicones as far as I could tell. Also, random rec through the youtube autoplay, the derma e Antioxidant Natural Sunscreen SPF 30 Oil-Free Face Lotion, also silicone free and looks to have some good antioxidants in it too and promises not to be too greasy. Think Victoria Health sells the brand, otherwise iherb will probably have it.

EnidButton · 07/05/2017 13:57

Dulci I thought that but no, it's a raggedy haircut from 2007. Probably no-one else will notice but it's not me. I asked for 3 inches off and they've taken at least 7.

EnidButton · 07/05/2017 13:58

Thank you though. It's just triggered anxiety. Once that's gone, I'll get over it. Flowers

Dulcimena · 07/05/2017 14:09

Bo thank you for thinking of me Flowers - I'll look those two up, they're new brands to me.

Good luck with finding untouched goodies at TKM too! At mine they've started taping makeup boxes all the way around, so it's pretty obvious when they've been opened, some had been tbf but I just ignored those ones...

mintmagnummm · 07/05/2017 14:44

Bo would that derma e face spf 30 be suitable to use on holiday abroad too?

EnidButton · 07/05/2017 14:48

Our TK Maxx beauty section is always really chaotic. Are they all like that? Sometimes I don't mind a rummage but you know...

userallusedup · 07/05/2017 17:03

Thank you for the round up Bo I'm using that Anthelios spray Sali Hughes mentions as a top up but I do find it slightly heavy and it makes me a bit shiny so don't think it's great for oily skin. I much prefer the bioderma spray. Still waiting on the bioderma nude touch to turn up.

Dulci I'm using the Palmers AHA, mine smells ok-ish (reminds me slightly of lemon washing up liquid) but it the scent disappears very quickly once rubbed in. It seems ok, it's not irritating or making me itchy but I've not noticed any difference or improvement. I have only been using it for a week though and I'm lucky I don't really have any major issues with the skin on my body - up to now I've only been slapping on some E45 when I remember but typically not bothering to use anything at all.

Dulcimena · 07/05/2017 17:17

user Yes it smells now like it did when it was in the turquoise bottle (ie not awful!), but in previous incarnations it's zapped my KP within a few weeks of daily use. I'm not really seeing any improvement this time round, which is a bit frustrating... However I haven't got my legs out yet this year - it's too cold - so that could be making the difference, sunlight helps.

Enid It's so hit and miss, some days there's tons of interesting stuff, other times nothing or the good stuff has all been played with... Angry

botemp · 07/05/2017 18:27

mint, depends on the type of holiday but if super pale and hanging out by the beach/pool then probably not. It doesn't mention being water resistant or waterproof so I'm assuming it's neither and it is only SPF30 so you'd be having to reapply a lot more quickly and more diligently.

Well, TKMaxx was a bust, think the standard rule of 'when you go to TKM looking for something specific you'll never find it and when you don't need a thing you'll find 30 things you wanted at some other point' applied. They did have some Burberry Beauty things surprisingly, quite nice but none of it was really my colour. Also more Astalift, expensive serums this time.

OP posts:
EnidButton · 07/05/2017 18:34

good stuff has all been played with...

Yes! I think that's the main problem with ours. Everything has been poked and tried out unless it's in a set in a box. Some good things though sometimes.

Anxiety has calmed down. Went for a walk on the beach. It's been a nice sunny day here.

JDSTER · 07/05/2017 19:08

mint you'd be better sticking with your LRP sunscreen for holidays (I think you're still ok with it?)
Enid I'm glad a nice walk in the fresh air helpedSmile.
Envy at sunny weather-crap weather here in north east!
olli (or anyone) can you recommend me a loose translucent face powder, good for oily/combo skin?

bananafish81 · 07/05/2017 19:15

@JDSTER I really like innisfree no sebum mineral powder for loose translucent powder for oily skin. It's great!

EnidButton · 07/05/2017 19:48

JD It was a bit windy at one point but bright blue sky. Lots of bluebells around. Smile It'll be on its way over to you next hopefully.

I've used this powder to set and get rid of shine on my t zone for a couple of years now www.gurumakeupemporium.com/cosmetics-c5/face-c3/eshiko-ultra-high-definition-powder-p656

It's really, really fine so leaves no trace if you dust it on with a fat brush. Good for touch ups as it doesn't cake ever.

The packaging is pretty terrible though. Rubbish plastic pot with a sticker inside that's hard to get off. Plus it gets everywhere so not so good for out and about.

But I keep repurchasing because it's the most invisible one I've found and adds zero colour.

(That wasn't very helpful really sorry. Grin)

banana is that the mineral powder on a mint coloured pot? Looks good.

yongnian · 07/05/2017 19:52

Evening all! jdster the samples arrived thank you! Grin not tried yet but will report back.....
hello newcomers with fruity names (and non-fruity ones!). I have nothing useful to add other than that.
Skin wise, still liking LRP toleriane cleanser, and fast reaching the end of a few different Ordinary products, so there'll be a little purchasing happening this month i think...

JDSTER · 07/05/2017 21:35

Thanks banana enid and olli. All very helpful.
yong glad they arrived. We will all look forward to your 'empties, new purchases' update next month Wink

JDSTER · 07/05/2017 22:08
