Blorange - strip colour?

I home coloured my hair for years using Nice and Easy ash blond. However I got sick of it looking orange and shit so went to hairdresser.

First time I got a dark blond all over with sparse highlights. Looked great for two weeks then seemed to go back to previous blorange, plus greys showed more cos was bit darker.

Second time my hairdresser put more highlights. It covered grey better but still has orange tinge plus the highlights look too stripey.

I'm booked to go to hairdresser next week. I can't really afford all these salon dyes so am tempted to ask her to strip the dye so that I can resume home colouring. It may be shit but so is salon and at least it's a tenth of the price.

Is stripping the colour the best option? Or should I try a home dye over the current colour? My hair is just an awful mess.

By strip do you mean something like colourb4? I did that and my hair underneath was bright orange. Permanent home dyes often have quite a lot of activator in them (works faster, easier to guarantee even coverage), which strips out the natural colour and leaves a brassy orange colour.

You might just have to get an ash semi all over the existing colour to tone down the brassiness, and use semis until you've grown out the damaged bits. There isn't a lot you can do once the hair is completely porous and stripped from the dye.

I tried Touch of Silver but didn't do anything. A colleague says to leave it on for ten minutes. Maybe I'll try that.

So I can use a semi over the colour I have? I did look in boots and couldnt see many semi permanent colours - just those trendy pastels. Any recommendations?

Buy the fudge clean blonde toning shampoo - its the only one that actually worked for me. You can get it on amazon and beauty bay

I'd leave a few weeks before you put something new over the top to let your hair calm down a bit, but yes, a semi over the top of what you have will work. The only thing to be careful about is if there are very porous sections of damaged hair an ash colour could go khaki. I'd do a patch test first on a blonde bit.

Perhaps L'Oreal Casting? Or a lot of men's hair dye is semi-permanent and much more neutral/natural colours.

This happened me with home dye, so I decided to grow the orange colour out completely, with a view to starting from scratch with a colour done professionally. I didn't manage to grow out the orange completely, as it looked so awful, so I had it done professionally. The colourist put blondish/grey highlights through my hair, no base colour, then she put a toner through it, and explained to me that the remaining orange colour from home dying would show through again within probably 2 weeks, but obviously when the orange has finally grown out my hair will just have the colour of the highlights, which is exactly what I wanted, as I don't want too much grey showing yet. I had the highlights done in February and plan to have them done twice more this year, as the whole idea behind it is to colour my hair less and less as the years go by

I've ordered the fudge shampoo and various styling products. Maybe if it looks more styled the colour won't be as big a deal...

You can buy professional colour to.use at home. Majirel by loreal... I buy from Amazon or my sil gets me it from the wholesalers stuff the hair dresser i went to used
