If you wear jeans to work, what do you do?

Inspired by another thread I've seen this morning, and got me to thinking.

I left the corporate world for many reasons, and one of them was actually the dress code. I hate wearing jackets and "smart" clothes and for some reason find doing so incredibly stressful. I can see how bizarre that sounds as I'm writing it. When I think about going back to work, one of the things which really makes me feel anxious is the thought of having to dress smartly.

Anyway, if your job allows you to wear jeans to work, what is it that you do? If you can be specific about your role instead of just industry that would be great, but understand that might not be possible for outing reasons. Thanks MN Smile

Media - jeans all the time - absolutely a deciding factor in choosing career path!

KatyBerry · 18/04/2017 12:02

lawyer (but in media). It has saved me a fortune over the years in pinstripe horrors.

Legal consultancy. Everyone wears jeans or other casual clothes most of the time, sometimes people look smarter for client-facing work but a lot of our clients are silicon valley companies and tend to be fairly relaxed. I used to work in investment banking and I couldn't cope with the two dress codes - super smart monday to thursday, and then smart casual on fridays. I had to buy two whole new sets of clothes. I love clothes but can't be arsed with all that.

LadyOfTheCanyon · 18/04/2017 12:16

Florist.

PNGirl · 18/04/2017 12:18

Fashion industry - footwear merchandiser ( as in buying, not visual merchandising in store). I'm currently wearing jeans, a Liberty print hoodie and some New Balance.
If I want to wear a dress I can though.

My OH wears jeans - he's in videogames.

I'm a librarian (public libraries)

Previously I worked in an archive/public research centre in a national museum.

Good friend of mine works in the music industry and has worn jeans every day of his working life.

UnderTheDesk · 18/04/2017 13:18

Engineer, but I work from home so could even work in the nip if I wanted.

I don't though, as that would be cold and uncomfortable. Grin

I wear smart black jeans. I work in food.

WeSailTonightForSingapore · 18/04/2017 13:45

University lecturer. I wear jeans most of the time. They are 'smart' though and I wear them with silk tops or something from Cos so I'm not totally casual. This is what I find most comfortable for teaching, as I can move around, things don't cling and I feel like 'me'.

I used to wonder if this was too casual for teaching but now I don't care. Because my male colleagues are in jeans and trainers 100% of the time and no one raises an eyebrow or says they are too casual. Our whole workplace is very relaxed though. I do dress in smart clothes if we are interviewing staff, going to graduation or for open days. But day to day, its almost always jeans.

Judydreamsofhorses · 18/04/2017 13:55

Lecturer, in a media-based discipline. I wear black skinny jeans with a nice top/blouse, usually with either ankle boots or brogues. Today I'm in a dress/opaques/Chelsea boots combo though, I tend to wear jeans 2/3 times a week.

Londonbum · 18/04/2017 13:56

I am a public affairs manager for a large charity. I wear jeans sometimes - not usually if I have a big important meeting or am going to be on tv for an interview, but jeans, jeggings & other casual items form a part of my regular wardrobe.
