Selling unwanted clothes online

I'm currently on mat leave and have decided my wardrobe needs a huge clearout! I've loads of stuff to donate to charity but am wondering whether to sell some of the more expensive or barely worn items instead and buy something else with the proceeds.

Any tips? What does or doesn't sell well? How to price things? What to do about postage and packaging to maximise gains? I'm guessing it would be better to buy packaging in bulk on EBay rather than the overpriced stuff I normally get from the post office.

Have you tried selling on Vinted? I'm a big fan.

I did this a few years ago. I wouldn't bother again.

It took a whole day to take the photos of my items and write up descriptions and put them online. Then I had to field questions from potential buyers for the next few days. Then when the auctions ended I had to get everything organised for the post with the correct packaging and addresses, which took another afternoon. In the end it wasn't really worth it, even for the higher priced items like a pair of prada shoes.

The truth is, new clothes are so cheap that the secondhand market is dire, unless it's true vintage from decades ago, or you have a hipster boutique in shoreditch.

depop is quite good. its a phone app but seems really popular.

I eBay clothes - any designer label or high end chain store seems to sell well
Marks and Spencer's and next also sell ok
I buy packaging in bulk from amazon and only charge actual postage
It is quite a lot of work, ironing - photographing - listing - packing but I find it worth it
I'm currently having a clear out and have sold nearly £300 in last few weeks and estimate will make another £400 within next month
It pays for most of my holidays

I think eBay is worth it for high end items. The phone app is pretty easy to use now. I've just sold a load of stuff and it was pretty hassle free.

I sell (and buy!) a lot of clothes on Ebay. I think its worth it. Basically good brands sell best, so i wouldnt bother with Primark, H&M etc.
I use strong bin bags for packaging (i cut them in half then seal with packing tape). Also i ask friends and family to save all their parcel bags for me which i then reuse. I love doing it, good luck!
