Skechers, so comfy but so ugly!

Went there today to look for some comfy shoes and had the most annoying experience of trying on shoes that were so comfy it was like walking on air but my god they were ugly shoes! Why is it so hard to create shoes that are v comfy but also look stylish? Also made me laugh that their marketing is v glamorous but most of the customers in the shop were pp over 50 looking for comfy shoes!!

I don't know Sketchers, so this may be no help, but I have very troublesome feet (wide and small, corns) and find Nike and Adidas trainers super-comfy. I have Nike Roshe and Thea, and Adidas Stan Smiths and Gazelles and can walk miles without incident in any of these - usually I need to spend weeks breaking in any new shoes but I bought new Stan Smiths last Thursday and wore them all Monday and Tuesday.

Yes god forbid us 50+ are actually allowed out in public and to look for comfy shoes! Aaaaargh!

hmm
I just see them as any other trainer brand
some you like, some you don't
you didn't like anything in the shop?

Destinysdaughter · 06/04/2017 18:43

I did buy some shoes that were the most normal looking in the shop. Wore them out today and the bastards rub the back of my heels! Sad

Goldfishjane · 06/04/2017 18:44

oh dear
I normally find Skechers are a bit "dipped" at the back so they don't rub that heel spot?

Just saying, I think I first wore them in my 20s btw.

NoelHeadbands · 06/04/2017 18:46

I lived in Skechers Go Walks last summer.

But yeah, every time I slipped my feet in, somewhere out there in the universe my younger self wept with shame.

SillySongsWithLarry · 06/04/2017 18:48

I have plain black go walks and they are great. No more ugly than any other pair of trainers. They come in some whacky colours that I wouldn't wear though.

Goldfishjane · 06/04/2017 18:50

Larry, all brands are doing some interesting colours at the moment....!

Destinysdaughter · 06/04/2017 18:55

I did try on some trainer type shoes and it was like walking on air but God they were ugly!

Why is it so hard to design comfy shoes that look good??

bit confused...do you hate trainers generally?

there is a brand of comfy pumps that gets suggested on here...I think it's Shoe Therapy?

I have Debenhams Good for the Sole but I wouldn't walk around all day in them. I don't do heels so usually for me (Londoner either walking or using public transport) it's trainers in a bag if I have to wear smarter shoes. Tbh these days I find everywhere is okay with trainers, even quite nice bars, so my trainer days are increasing!

Destinysdaughter · 06/04/2017 19:29

I'd read about Sketchers Go Walk on here so went to a store to see if I could find some footwear that was comfy as I have constant foot pain and would love to find something which was comfy and stylish. I need a lot of padding under my foot to act as a shock absorber but wanted to try and find something that I could wear with long skirts but didn't look too frumpy!

They do some Mary Jane style ones don't they - might look a bit better with a skirt.

Bejazzled · 06/04/2017 20:20

By coincidence I was just looking at Go Walks today. For holidays with shorts and dresses - every sandal I've tried cut me somewhere on my feet so I thought I would look for shoes that can be worn with hidden socks. Go walks, lace up plimsolls, or similar...I just don't know now.

Cellardoor23 · 06/04/2017 20:33

I like Hotter shoes, really comfortable. I know they're disliked on here, but some of the styles aren't that bad imo. I would rather wear them than sketchers and I'm in my late 20's just

Bejazzled · 06/04/2017 20:41

Which Hotter shoes do you have Cellar
I've seen them before, some of them are no worse than Birkies or Rieker imo

MaisyPops · 06/04/2017 20:50

I love my go walks. Ive got them in black but the top is lacey. The sole is also black so you dont get that white/cream sole, coloured shoe thing that i hate
They are so comfy.

I like in those, nike free trainers and my roxy flipflops

Cellardoor23 · 06/04/2017 20:57

I used to have a pair of all black trainer type ones but I can't see them on their website.

I've also had these nirvana shoes

I think I'm going to buy these loafers too.

I was going to say fitflops do some nice ballerina type shoes that will go with skirts. I have a pair of them also and they're very comfortable.

MaisyPops · 06/04/2017 21:04

Cellardoor23
I picked my 2nd pair of them up from TKMaxx on clearance.
I dont think they do the all black ones anymore which is a shame. I wear my black ones to work.

Bejazzled · 06/04/2017 21:08

Thank you 😊
