Long shorts for 10 year old - do they exist?

My tall 10 year old would like some shorts that end closer to her knees than her crotch. We used to buy some knee length ones from Boden but they dont do them anymore. We had a look around town today but they were all on the micro side. Do longer shorts exist for girls these days?

Gap has denim ones: www.gap.co.uk/browse/category.do?cid=1049671&departmentRedirect=true#department=48

Thank you. We had looked at the Gap ones. I think DD wants to avoid denim and hopefully have something a bit prettier. Not sure we'll find this.

I found some white ones last year in Peacocks.

Sunflower6 · 03/04/2017 21:42

Hi my 11 year old is the same, she likes colour shorts not denim and to the knee, I usually get them from next, or gap and last year Sainsbury's did some. If you don't mind eBay you might be able to get some longer length shorts on there, I did last year as my daughter won't wear short shorts.

wrinkleseverywhere · 03/04/2017 21:45

Boys' ranges? DD got a purple pair & a jade pair in Matalan last year. They're not "pretty" but they were a change from denim.
She also wears cut offs & I don't have qualms about buying trousers at this time of year knowing I'll be chopping them off above the knees. They're often no more expensive than shorts. If you're buying trousers with that intention, do look at the cut & try & work out if they will look oddly flappy if cut off.
I should say DD is only 7yo so what I can get her to wear may not work for a 10yo

I found some at Sainsburys about two years ago. I have another really pretty pair, they are elastic waist and very comfortable from Esperie I think. I shop in children's sizes. What about somewhere like Uniqlo? Does the UK have a children's version? TK Maxx kids?

SSR24479 · 04/04/2017 04:28

Just buy boys cargo shorts.

Lowdoorinthewal1 · 04/04/2017 08:57

I agree just buy boys. Boden has loads of longer shorts in the boys section.

FellOutOfBed2wice · 04/04/2017 09:04

I even find for my 2 year old that girls ranges are too much like hot pants for my liking!! Shop in the boys range.

Lowdoorinthewal1 · 04/04/2017 09:05

Gosh I see what you mean about the girls' shorts on Boden. Hmm

WHY do Boden think girls' shorts must touch their bum cheeks but boys' shorts must touch their knees?? Confused

Felyne · 04/04/2017 09:20

vertbaudet do bermuda shorts. I find their sizes come up a bit small so get the next one (or two) up.

walkingtheplank · 04/04/2017 16:54

Thanks everyone for ideas. I'll show DD what you've all come up with. It's disappointing about Boden. We used to buy a jersey knee length short (thinks they were called crops) from them which they don't do anymore. Recently sold the last of ours on eBay and got decent money for them so there's definitely a demand for them.

Sorry op no advice but I have 2 dd's and this sort of thing infuriates me. Why are girls shorts always ridiculously short whereas boys shorts are always closer to the knee? I like the look of longer length shorts for my dd's, but I shouldn't have to shop in another section to find what I'm looking for.

iloveredwine · 04/04/2017 18:37

Found a few on m&m direct that are pretty and longer. On my phone so it won't let me attach photo

Mrs9C · 04/04/2017 18:38

This infuriates me! So ridiculously short!

Longleggedlovely · 04/04/2017 21:18

I'm tall with long legs (hence the nn!) and really struggle to find shorts that aren't indecent on me, my go to is Gap boyfriend shorts and randomly George at Asda do decent casual ones that have roll up/roll down legs. They were nicer a couple of years ago as they didn't have an elasticated waist big they are comfy, long enough and not frumpy so do me for a beach holiday! Could she get small size adult ones?

relaxo · 04/04/2017 21:30

My dd wears H&M jersey ones from the boys range. This sort of thing
