What trousers do you wear to work?

I start a new job next week, and I'm going to be out of the office some of the time meeting clients. I'm not comfortable in the full on trouser suit look, it's just not me. But I also realise my usual black skinny jeans won't always be suitable.

I bought some skinny fit black stretch chinos from h&m, which I like, but my normal size 14 are a bit snug and I think the 16 would be too big (crappy h&m sizing).

Maybe a cigarette trouser but I'm 5ft5 and thighs not as slim as I would like, so wonder if they'd look shit.

Please help, I'm really not sure where/what to try.

I have the Gap bistretch trousers which are basically smarter skinny jeans. I have them in black and navy.

I also have a couple of pairs of cigarette trousers from Warehouse and Zara.

I like Banana Republic Sloan Fit for work and find them flattering on my thighs. Might be worth ordering a size down too to see which is the best fit. They have 27% off which ends today

I also wear Gap Bi Stretch or Gap Skinny Ultra (although i think these might not be in stock any more)

M+S basic work trousers here. Nice waistband that doesn't cut in or rub, little bit of stretch and quick dry fabric so if I get soaked walking to work, I don't feel wet for too long.

I recently got some smart ankle trousers from Uniqlo and I'm really impressed with them. Able to dress them up or down.

I have 4 pairs of Gap bi-stretch in different colours. They're well-fitted, wash well and don't go baggy at the knees. Have to shave my ankles for them, though, with isn't great. They look good no matter what you put them with, though, and the colour choices are great.

BounceBounceSplishSplash · 01/04/2017 17:17

Do you need to size down for the Gap bi stretch ones? They look good

RedMetamorphosis · 01/04/2017 17:26

I find them quite true to size. I'm a 12 in most places, 10 in Next and M&S and the 12 at Gap fits perfectly.

WhooooAmI24601 · 01/04/2017 17:27

I went for my usual size and found them pretty decent. I size down in their jeans, though, as they are usually huge.

Gillybobs · 01/04/2017 17:29

Gap bi stretch are great but i find them really fitted so need a longer top/blouse. For something slightly more forgiving i like marks and Spencer cotton rich 7/8 th trousers.

hollieberrie · 01/04/2017 17:30

I had to size down. Usually a 10 but their 10 was too big. 8 is fine. There's no way I'm an 8 in most shops.

BounceBounceSplishSplash · 01/04/2017 17:30

That's why I was wondering Whoo - I find their jeans huge or they fit perfectly in the shop but after buying and wearing they have stretched like crazy after an hour and end up too big!

rollonthesummer · 01/04/2017 17:34

Are the Gap bi-stretch short in the leg?

WhooooAmI24601 · 01/04/2017 17:51

I find them quite short on my ankles but I wear 34" leg jeans so they're probably a decent fit on normal sized folk.

rollonthesummer · 01/04/2017 17:57

That's ok-I'm 5 3 with pretty short legs so hopefully they will be ok. Do they fade?

hollieberrie · 01/04/2017 19:30

Yes they do after a while. My work is pretty casual though so I just keep wearing them. Grin

MistyMinge · 01/04/2017 21:22

I'm going to order some of the Gap Bi-stretch. I like the look of the Banana Republic Sloan trousers, but see that they're dry clean only, can't be doing with that for a pair of work trousers.

Oh, never noticed that Misty - have never dry cleaned mine, always machine wash BlushEnvy
