I've just started doing my nails again and it takes me 15-30 mins with my home gel kit?

How long does it take everyone else ?

One hour with uv gels. But I'm an amateur trying to do 'fancy stuff' got the rosebuds and beach palm tree stuff nailed now though (scuse the pun!)

How do you do the fancy s uff do you have special tools?

An hour to shellac from start to finish inc filing and cuticles.

Leanin15yearsmaybe · 26/03/2017 20:34

Just really thin brushes and lots of different colours/glitters to practice doing different designs rather than plain colours

About 3 minutes with Rilmmel 60 seconds - looks great but only lasts about 5 days.

Judydreamsofhorses · 26/03/2017 20:48

About half a hour all in, with two coats of normal polish, base and topcoat.

QueenieGoldstein · 26/03/2017 21:05

Around 40 minutes if just doing basic one colour gels, if doing nail art then about an hour.

LadyOfTheCanyon · 26/03/2017 21:27

I don't: someone else does it for me. But for comparative purposes a soak off, manicure, cuticle sort out, hand massage, gel nails and a glass of prosecco takes a bit over an hour.

daffodil10 · 26/03/2017 22:24

I don't either but soak off, cuticles, base, 2 coats of shellac, top coat, oil cuticles, hand massage takes 40 mins

MabelFurball · 26/03/2017 22:34

Spent nearly an hour this morning doing base coat, two coats of colour, top coat (so 4 coats altogether). This evening there are quite a few chips. I thought putting a top coat on would make them last a bit longer.

Shirley How many coats of Rimmell do you put on and do you use base and top coat? Five days is good!

EatsLeavesAndShit · 26/03/2017 23:19

Mine just took 40 minutes for file, cuticles, base coat, two coats of colour and a top coat. It doesn't look good close up though.

Does anyone have any tips on making a home manicure look like a pro has done it? I even bought one of those skin nipper-cutter things but I'm not sure how to use it. Confused

LBOCS2 · 27/03/2017 08:33

15 minutes? Old varnish off, handwash, two coats of colour, one of quick drying topcoat (I rate Essie over Seche Vite). Won't last long - a couple of days maybe.

Or if I do it properly it'll take about 45 minutes but that's mainly drying time as my very good topcoat takes a while to set.

Don't cut the skin around the nail, that's how infection gets in.

You need to apply a nail oil twice a day on the nail and the skin around it. It will keep the nail supple enough to resist breakage and stop you getting hang nails. Once you've got the skin nice around the nail they look so much better.

The secret with nails & the eponynichium is to be gentle, rough manicuring will make the skin thicken which is unattractive.

Cuticle is a piece of dead tissue shed as the nail grows, the bit you all push back is eponynichium.

25 mins roughly with the gel kit - literally just painting, curing, painting, curing etc.
