Padded/down coat recommendations

I'm after a new down/padded coat and have been looking and looking but can't find anything that's right. I seem to see people out and about in nice ones all the time though so they must be out there!

I want it to be long-ish (down to thighs), fashionable shape, warm but doesn't need to be 'performance', budget around £100 but higher if it's perfect.

Any recommendations would be great, it's driving me mad!! Thanks.

Uniqlo Stretch ultra light Down Coat. It's so warm and comfy.

GoodyGoodyGumdrops · 27/03/2017 19:30

Lands End.

I have their Commuter Down Coat, which is fabulous. Longer than what you're looking for, but IIRC they have it in what they call 'parka' length, which should be right.

in case you are concerned check out if they are 'ethical' as I have read that the down is collected in a rather inhumane way, which is why I went for a cheaper synthetic one that is warm and snuggly, light and washes well, unlike down which is also a bugger if it rains heavily.

Alex83 · 28/03/2017 13:18

Thank you, all options I'd not thought of so I'm going to have a look at them online now.

stepaway yes I'm very concerned with animal welfare etc so that would definitely be a big no for me- I'll stick to synthetic I think. Thanks for mentioning it as I hadn't really thought.

Does anyone know about the quality of ASOS padded coats? I quite liked the look of this one but I know ASOS quality can be a bit rubbish sometimes...

i absolutely love it. Had it about 5 years now and it washes really well and is super warm and cosy

Moncler

Alex83 · 28/03/2017 17:24

These are all great, thank you! I'll have to buy a few to try on and then return them I think.

Moncler are a bit more than I have to spend unfortunately mowgeli though it's very tempting!!

Oh sorry Alex I missed the bit about £100!
Uniqlo!! I have a nice little body warmer from there and I wear it all of the time. Don't know if they have a website? I think mine has an artificial stuffing in it but it's very light and very warm.. I can check. It was about £30 2 years ago.

OCSockOrphanage · 28/03/2017 20:32

Schneider (austrian make) are very good quality, classic shapes, well made "cityfied" down jackets with some fashion sense for hard winters ( budget version of Moncler really). Mine was above your £100 budget in the sale but will still be in wear in 10 years. Goes in the washing machine, with a little bit of care.

Berghaus do really nice ladies outerwear - I love this:

I like Berghaus too, and from what I've read they're committed to responsible down sourcing

BikeRunSki · 28/03/2017 20:49

Well over £100, but Patagonia down in ethically sourced.

MiniMaxi · 28/03/2017 20:49

I should add I've had one of their longer down coats for about 3 years now and it's still in good condition (and very warm!)
