Non-weddingy wedding dress

Anyone fancy helping to find me one?

I'm getting married on 29th April - 5 weeks away. Very low key event, we've been together 20 years and have 2 kids, at the registry office and afternoon reception in local art gallery.

I don't want a traditional wedding dress but do want something special that I feel good in. I'm 5'2 and a 12/14, pear shaped. My favourite current dress that I feel really suits me is similar to this from Wallis, very silky and skimming, think described as "fit and flare":
www.wallis.co.uk/en/wluk/product/stone-pebble-polka-dot-fit-and-flare-dress-6371147?bi=0&ps=20&Ntt=fit%20and%20flare

I like the kind of patterns that are around at the moment with white background and then flowers or butterflies on them like this one:
www.wallis.co.uk/en/wluk/product/ivory-butterfly-print-fit-and-flare-dress-6436033?bi=0&ps=20

I will go any try on the similar dresses from Wallis, but kind of think I ought to find something a bit more special for my wedding (and happy to spend a bit more money than £45!).

Has anyone seen any similar dresses around?

Thanks so much!

I think the butterfly dress is very pretty. It looks quite Ted Baker-ish, have you looked there?

Notjustuser1458393875 · 26/03/2017 13:06

Coast. Loads of lovely fit and flare dresses there, good quality and well cut.

CantChoose · 26/03/2017 13:28

Some of the modern vintage shops have dresses similar to your description. I'd have a look at phase eight, too

Friolero · 26/03/2017 13:48

I'm not sure what's happened with the links there, they've all got mixed up, sorry!

Ted Baker

There are lots of other lovely dresses there as well.

John Lewis have some nice ones - here's one by Hobbs and Yumi.

Loving the LK Bennet one.

Loads on this website.

The LK Bennett one with the yellow embroidery is stunning, it looks bridal without being traditionalist bridal iyswim. The only thing to bear in mind is to avoid buying a dress that a guest might wear. Shops like Ted Baker & Coast are traditionally wedding guest attire shops so don't buy your wedding dress from there.

Just thinking about your height and size (similar to me), just wondered about this one? www.wallis.co.uk/en/wluk/product/petite-265975/petite-pink-floral-dip-hem-dress-6399999?bi=0&ps=20

Thanks all lots of great suggestions there. I will follow them up....

I hve tried a few Phase Eight dresses, but not the one suggested by Friolero - like the other dress too.

Notjust - not tired Coast yet....

Fingermoose - I tried on the Hobbs Confetti dress yesterday, and it was really lovely design wise, but maybe a little stiff fabric wise to suit me - probably need something a bit silkier (more synthetic?!), but may go back to it...

I haven't looked at Yumi yet.....that one looks lovely

Daffs - that one might be a bit long for me, but worth looking into...do like the design.

Pizzas - that's lovely, will have a look at Ted baker....

Imsorry - lovely too...

Friolero - think links worked fine, more lovely dresses...

Lovely, lovely, lovely - just what I needed - thanks so much x

Ooo and even more ideas have been posted since I started my reply before bathtime and have just finished it at last....

Chocolate - I hadn't even looked it in the yellow/cream colour option, so thanks for that, lovely - might see if I can find it in real life to try on... Good point too about what guests might be buying, so maybe I ought to go for something a bit pricier and then that will hopefully rule that out!

Altcarbon - lovely, but think they might not suit my generous hips, also look a bit like my SIL's wedding dress a few years ago, so kind of what to go for something slightly different to those.

Fedupandnoggin - might try that style on, wouldn't usually go for a hem like that.

Sorrelsoup - not come across chichi before, thanks.

xxxx

Good luck OP. I just wanted to drop this in - only because I think it's beautiful but I'm too tall, fat and skint to buy it, but it might make a very special occasion dress eye watering expensive but lovely

winklegirl · 26/03/2017 23:18

Ah thanks Fingermouse...another lovely one to follow up. Not too expensive in the scheme of things when you looking for a wedding dress, and definitely won't duplicate any guests in that :-)

These skirts and tops are beautiful for something weddingy but a bit different and come in different colour choices

You are welcome.
My dress is a lot pinkier IRL by the way and I might cut it knee length, haven't decided yet :)
