a (tiny) bit of colour needed for spring

My entire wardrobe is grey, black, navy and (if I'm feeling summery) white. That's it. I don't do colour. There are a lot of colours I just don't suit (nothing yellow or orange, cobalt blue, khaki) and I'm not keen on brights.

I had a bit of a splurge this week and yesterday took delivery of a new black blazer, grey trousers, two navy tops and a black one. All of which I love, but then the sun came out and it felt really spring-like and I suddenly felt like I was dressed for a funeral when everyone else was breaking out the pretty colours.

Don't want to go overboard but thought maybe a couple of tops in a very pale blue or a dusty pink or something might do it. Don't want to go down the HoC route - just want an idea for a top or two.

I like quite plain things, classic shapes etc - the Hush/Cos kind of look. At the moment I'm wearing grey cigarette trousers, grey Gazelles, a long black top from Me + Em and am about to stick a longline flowy Uniqlo blazer on top (black, obvs).

What have you seen that could be nice and (slightly) colourful?

My wardrobe is 90% black, navy and grey but I do buy some cheaper bright colour things for the sort of day you described. Yesterday was lovely and sunny here so I added an orangey red long line T from last summer over my black skinnies and black long sleeved T.

Also a fanof bright shoes/bag in summer Also more white in the summer.

I also let me hair go grey about 5 years ago and can now wear shades suc as red and orange which looked awful before. Faded blues and bright pinks also work for me. Sludgy colours such as khaki and camel look awful. I think you just have to try colours to find what works for you which is why my coloured stuff tends to be from much cheaper ranges than my trusty neutrals

Finery London has a dusty pink shirt dress (with cut-out back) or a grey top with dusty pink flowers. Their pieces are quite structured so sound as though they would suit your style.

I find jewellery useful for adding pops of colour

Scarves! They're wonderful for a splash of colour. I have a similar palette and if I venture into colour it's still dark shades, so lighter colour around the neck is great. Statement necklaces work too! Or maybe the Converse in pastels?

A while back, about May 13 IIRC, I bought a very cheap bag in daffodil yellow, and it was fantastic with all my neutrals all summer and the following year. Went with everything and lifted the dullest outfit. It was so great, I used it until it was really tatty. Then I bought a slightly better bag in a subtler yellow, which I am still wearing daily. It has been exceptionally versatile. Keep the trims and shape simple for best effect.

As a fellow black and grey wearer, I find khaki fairly easy to integrate in with the black and grey. I also have a couple of pairs of casual red shoes (Converse, ballet shoes) to wear with all the black and grey. Occasional blue denim finds its way into my wardrobe, as does the v occasional bit of hot pink, purple or red.

Mint Velvet have a few light blue and a few pink things at the moment which will work with their usual grey and black.

Makes me feel a bit more springlike! I can't do coloured scarves or accessories (keep these black/navy/grey/leopard print and metallic.

I have a pale green top and olive green coat that match all my things, also silver converse. I don't like pale blue on me but if it suits you that silvery blue can be quite classic and matches grey and navy.

Can you try some stripes instead of colour? Black white/grey stripes is brighter and more "colourful" than plain colours - and can freshen things up for spring whilst not going for a colour that might not feel quite right if you're not really a colour pop person.

I also live mainly in neutrals and agree it can feel a bit dull this time of year. It really does depend what suits you but personally I find khaki, blush pink (but a dusty shade, not too girly), berry red, chambray or occasionally a bit of neon livens up my wardrobe. Shoes or bag are a good way to inject a bit of colour if you don't fancy it head to toe.

My wardrobe is almost all navy or white with some bits of grey and black and for a bit of colour I love a dark gold or even mustard. It brightens up the navy really well. I have a mustard/gold handbag or I have various scarfs. I really want a jacket that colour but haven't ventured that far yet. I have a lovely scarf in white/navy/yellow/pink from Next last year that ties in with my clothes and adds some colour really well.

Maybe some leopard print trainers/ballet shoes or a bag?
