Can i dye my Uggs with machine dye?

Pale grey uggs have gone a bit grubby looking but otherwise in good condition, thought I would dye them a darker grey. I know you can buy special suede dye but as I'm lazy, and I've already put them in the washing machine and they survived, I thought it might try machine dye.
Would this work do you think, or would the dye not take?
Anyone got any succesful Ugg dying stories?

I have absolutely nothing to base this on aside from a gut feeling, but it doesn't strike me as a good idea!

Haha! As I've washed them before (not very well thought out country walk resulting in very muddy Uggs) I don't think it will ruin them, just thought they might not take the colour. I suppose they might get unevenly dyed though, which would not be good.

I'd give it a go (but the inner sheepskin may come out a different shade to the outer suede) if you do please post pictures!

I suspect I have the same boots. I don't wish to dye them now, but if they last a long time I might in the future wish to freshen them up so if you're giving it a go then i'd be grateful to learn from you! Could you do a before and after pic?

I've dyed my Emu boots using brush on suede dye, no need for washing and lithe results are bloody brilliant. I've dyed a fair few pairs now!

Op - how did you wash them in the machine?
I've got 3 pairs that could do with a clean but I'm scared to machine them, but to get them done at a dry cleaner is £25 a pair

I have a slightly scratty looking pair of uggs I slob around in and they are fading. Would be interested in doing this.

Best thing is to clean them with a suede brush as this gets rid of dirt and gets the suede ready to be absorbant and wipe the soles with a damp cloth, then the dylon dye is sort of an alcohol based dye (I stuffed the boots with newspaper as it's quite liquid) you just paint on the dye and leave overnight to dry and hey presto - boots that look almost new again

I know there's different dyes for synthetic and natural fabrics and then some dye says don't use on silk and wool.

UGGs are leather and wool, so I guess the wool would dye fine (with the right dye) but lord knows how the suede would take it.
