So big promotion and gotta look the part so need some smart city type suits / outfits. But I am a size 22/24, 5ft 9.

Where can I go? not the usual Evans / simply be / yours type places). I need the plus size equivalent of Hobbs / jigsaw / Reiss / etc etc.

I am happy to not be suited but do need to be boardroom smart.

Thanks

My idea of board room attire and some of the stuff here is at odds
I do think you can tell if something is cheaply made, almost every time

My mum is a 22. She is also in a wheelchair and feels she needs clean lines.
Marina Rinaldi makes some beautiful pieces.
She uses some Boden
Brora for cashmere ( finally plus size )
Autograph have some great pieces and some go above a 22 now ( she sometimes finds m&s waists too restrictive)
Great bags and shoes
Fab grooming heavy expensive jewellery

Pure Collection go up to a 22/24 in some items. Some nice jersey wrap over tops, and cashmere cardis in eye popping colours. I've got a couple of cashmere items from them and they wash well.

can anyone suggest an affordable site for those of us who can't spend the kind of prices quoted on some of these sites...

loopylulu80 · 26/03/2017 20:52

I get quite a few pieces from a boutique near my mum and dad in Gloucestershire and always get compliments. I'm a 32 so much bigger than most of you ladies. They are £££ but I buy 6-8 pieces a year and me and my mum are such regulars (although I live 200 miles away) at sale time anything we want she just puts in the sale for us ❤

Angel Circle, Mona Lisa are great. I can't wait until I'm a size 16 (slimming world we) as hubby has said he will buy me a completely new wardrobe, whatever I want from wherever.

calilark

The brogues are from Clarks: I can't find them on their website but I got them from a discount outlet for £81: label said originally £295 Shock

Treggings are from Dash, the grannies' favourite. About £35 I think. They're quite sateeny and do fade over time. I've got two black pairs, and one navy. I like them tight to wear with boots and take a 16 petite - they come up like 7/8th cigarette pants.

LaundryFairy · 26/03/2017 21:31

dementedma I'd suggest you look at ASOS Curve - some very reasonably priced items.

Sainsbury's and M&S have good plus size ranges

travailtotravel · 26/03/2017 22:02

I've had a few gems from M&S that constitute the smart. Some Jaeger stuff might work also. I struggle to find suits to be honest - I used to be dependent on ann Harvey but that's a brand that went away and came back worse (more polyester - no no no).

If you need to do occasional casual days at work, chinos and a blazer is how I rocked it (Lands End for chinos).

I wear a lot of shoe boots and chelsea boots in colours.

Also, run a scan on House of Frazer on your size. Debenhams have a few options but HoF seem to cater for us better.

travailtotravel · 26/03/2017 22:05

PS - Manon baptiste on Navabi have some good items - like anything you might get a one season win but complete fail at other times.

knowler · 27/03/2017 10:11

Definitely Marina Rinaldi, navabi and studio 8. All really good options for smart workwear with a stylish twist.

Also, M&S to pick up some basics like black or navy trousers and jackets or plain dresses.

Thought I would give you guys an update after all your fabulous help.

Doing well at new job! Feeling confident and appropriate in new clothes. I mainly got stuff from Marina Mirladi / Persona, Long Tall Sally and Marks and Spencer. Ordered lots from Artigiano but all sent back and sizing and quality very odd.

Have discovered a tip of using Hold Ups in size small instead of knee highs to stop the awful roll down!

Still searching for an allusive suit. I either look like a giant round ball in a big square box. I think the dress / jacket combo might be better but so far dresses are either too patterned / colourful or too short.

Next on the list is too die the grey hair away!
