How to accessorise this?

Hello all,

I would love some advice please. Anniversary dinner with DP at weekend and going to a super, super fancy place for a meal.

I have decided to dress up in a (new) long gown: it's a special occasion and I know I will be overdressed but I have a taste for the dramatic and love the dress (and don't want to wait for the opera etc to wear it) so... [shrugs].

Pic attached. But how would you accessorise it for a fancy dinner? My feeling is very simple accessories (diamond or pearl studs) and let the drama of the dress speak for itself, but what colour/style shoes/bag?

Also, what cover up? I don't have an evening coat as such but do have my grandmother's mink stole (sorry to the anti fur brigade but she left it to me in her will and it means a lot to me!) but think I run the risk of looking like SUPER OTT, though perhaps I should just say f**k it and go the whole hog!

Style it out and wear the fur!! Sounds fantastic and I wish I had such an occasion!

Fur yes, pearls no. Way too cold, needs gold accessories or dark

Thanks Laquila - I think maybe I will! I reckon I would feel like the dog's b*ocks in my gran's fur and if other people around think it is OTT then so what 😊

By dark, Fedgling, how dark are we talking? I have some gold jewellery that could work...

Crikey that dress is the business!

As you say it doesn't need much in the way of accessories...

Have fun!

I love it! Can I ask where it's from?

mrszebrastripe · 20/03/2017 21:39

Fabulous dress, go for it!

Dress is from Nasty Gal (a dreadful name but a pretty dress!)

Nude or tan accessories? Am hoping tan might be OK as my nude shoes are much higher and I don't want to be grumpy at the end of the evening 😊

Well black could work, like black strappy heels. I absolutely love the colour.

Vogue actually recommends white diamonds here I like how Michelle Williams pictured are in a black setting

That is the most fantastic page, thank you Fedgling. Diane Kruger's dress is superb.

Maybe I will go for the diamond studs as my only jewellery. And I do have black strappy heels somewhere... I think I saw a pic of Emma Stone online wearing black accessories with a similar colour dress!

Sounds great, a really classy and clean look. I'm thinking the fur might be too OTT, heavy and a bit wintery now. Can you go without?

Specialagentblond · 21/03/2017 22:28

DP and a big smile are all you need, the dress is beautiful, have a great time x

TowerRose · 21/03/2017 23:20

No advice but that dress is STUNNING!

user1467897395 · 22/03/2017 07:58

Thank you all :) Fedgling, I know what you mean - though I think I may freeze if I don't have something over it and none of my other coats (mostly day ones) will work, I think.

I bet your DP will be grinning like the Cheshire Cat when he sees you in it. Enjoy!
