Do tapered trousers only work if you're tall?

I am short and have short legs, proportionally speaking. I've tried a few pairs of tapered trousers and they aren't right. They're too long so look like Aladdin trousers. Which is not what I was hoping for.

Do I persevere and find some petite ones?
Or give up and look for a different casual and comfortable shape of trouser?

I tried on some supposedly ankle-grazer GAP khakis yesterday and they looked awful - I'm 5ft3. I don't know the answer to this one so I always just wear jeans!

I'm 5'2 and I love wearing ankle grazers,they really suit my proportions. I do have to buy from the petite ranges though. I get mine from next.

Assuming the ability to carry them off, what shoes would be appropriate?
Im 5"4"; I fancy tapered trousers but clueless as to what they go with.

Day to day I don't wear heels so it's ballet flats or loafers. Brogues would look nice too.

If you like a heal then I think anything would look good-open toe,sling backs.
