Work Dresses

I wonder if anyone can help? I am in a senior position at work and usually wear the next type shift dresses. Easy to buy, fit me well.

However, after a few years of buying them they just don't have any new types and I need to get out of the rut of wearing black shift dresses. The problem is I can't find any ..... there must be loads out there I am just not sure where to look. I want something not too loud but not black or blue.

Well a bit more expensive than Next, but better quality, I used to go for Hobbs and LKBennet

Dependant on your colouring this dress is a step away from blue, black and polyester.

Wallis dresses are nice for work

Hobbs are a staple of every woman's wardrobe in my work. Wear well, wash well, flattering cut and reasonably priced- 100 a dress on average.

Following with interest as I'm also stuck in a bit of a workwear rut. I have quite a few Next items but agree that they a very 'samey' and boring. I also have a few Boden items which are generally more interesting and last really well. I also love Hobbs but only sale shop there - have to say that even with a well-paid job I don't consider £100 for a work dress 'reasonable'!!

I have a few phase 8 dresses as work wear.

Jaeger works well. Admittedly more for summer but have some brighter blues and block colours
Also Ralph Lauren knitted dresses can work

£100 and dry clean only isn't reasonably priced in my book.

LK Bennett is even more expensive.

I find Boden dresses work really well for this.

Other than that, Boden sale dresses are my friends.

I have the Aria and the Sharia. They are £55 full price but I think I paid £17 each plus postage for them. Worth bookmarking and checking every now and then for their sale.

I have a number from Boden and they wash really well, don't need ironing and are super flattering. I'm not sure on how to paste links, but if you search "honor" "Elsa" and "ruched detail" on the Boden website I have these dresses for work.

Jaeger Outlet is a great site for quality pieces at good prices.

I buy my work clothes from jaegar outlet, banana republic, Boden and Hobbs

Phase 8 is good for wash and wear dresses. I go for patterned dress with plain jacket. I also have a lovely one from Mango.

Hobbs is my staple for work. I think easily 80% of my work wardrobe comes from there - shift dresses and a few blouses, skirts and jackets. It's generous if you are a bit bigger in the hips unlike Reiss and Phase 8.

I buy either in the sales, wait for 20% off, or on eBay. You can pick up dresses for £20-30 in pristine condition.

I'm always on the look out for work dresses, they're so easy to wear. Next used to be brilliant, but not so good lately. This thread is very useful!

PS - I've just checked out Hush, all their dresses seem very casual, do they ever do anything slightly more fitted/corporate?

They have quite a few at the moment. Other than that most of my work dresses are from Mango, Warehouse, Me & Em (though they no longer do their lovely ruched jersey dresses), House of Fraser, Hobbs.
