Not sure about the sleeveless black dress for a formal occasion- but still a lovely dress. But the silver evening one - wow. Stunning.

Ambassador's wife is French!

GrumpyOldBag · 18/03/2017 13:34

I thought the ambassador's wife was dressed much more stylishly than Kate, unfortunately.

But then she lives in Paris so chicness probably gets absorbed through her skin.

Floisme · 18/03/2017 13:36

Of course she dresses conservatively. She's married into the country's leading establishment family. What do you expect?

kneesupfatty · 18/03/2017 13:54

Yes - the Ambassador's wife looked fabulous. I particularly loved her black dress with the white collar and 3/4 length sleeves - so simple yet so very stylish.

ChardonnayKnickertonSmythe · 18/03/2017 13:55

It's not about dressing conservatively. She can dress so much better, she has a big British design industry to showcase, she has a great figure, she has presence, she can do so much better while still keeping to her dress code.

It's possible to dress conservatively or appropriately and look extremely stylish, the two are not mutually exclusive.

polyhymnia · 18/03/2017 16:22

Ambassador's wife looks more chic and youthful.

She's got SO much going for her hasn't she- toned figure, great smile, amazing hair, pretty face etc etc yet somehow she often looks sort of ..... dull....

Deathraystare · 18/03/2017 17:44

Well I am not sure who will judge her clothing more harshly - mumsnet or the Parisians!

I've never commented on a S&B thread, seeing as I have neither. Wink

But I don't think that loose hair suits her these days. She's got quite a petite and delicate face, and long billowing locks seem to drag her face down and makes her look tired, except when she has a big smile. I think she looks much better with her hair off her face or when she has an updo.

As for her clothes, again I'm not any kind of expert, but I often got the impression that her skirts were just a little too short. But it was only when I followed a link posted here that I got a clue as to why I thought that. The idea from that link is that her skirts aren't in fact a little too short, but that the waistlines of her skirts/dresses were a little too high.

I think that the idea was that Kate is long-waisted but wears high-waisted skirts/dresses to make her legs look longer. I'm really not sure about that, but maybe it's a possible reason as to why I sometimes think that her clothes don't quite fit.

I agree that she often looks dull. Maybe that's her strategy - to look dull at times, to avoid being a fashion icon?
