I've seen trainers I like but they are an impractical colour and material.

Yes, it does.

I spray all of my suede and fabric shoes with the stuff.

Suede marks so easily and it makes it much easier to clean off any marks.

I normally use the kiwi one from the supermarket and have had no problems.

Yep, I used Go Dry on my (very expensive) suede Chelsea boots and even when I got caught in a torrential downpour they are fine!
