Dressy 'going out' shoes that aren't heels?!

I normally wear heels when I go out but since starting running a few months ago my knees have been playing up... bizarrely only when wearing heels!
I've yet to find flats that I don't feel frumpy in- does anyone know of any alternatives? They need to be closed toe and a smallish square heel would be ok but that doesn't conjure up anything very promising in my mind!
Budget isn't huge as it's hopefully only for a few months til my knees are ok but any suggestions much appreciated...

I'd go for a nice pair of leather ballet flats. Get the most expensive you can afford - they'll mould to your feet and won't hurt like heels.

I can rarely be bothered to wear heels any more, especially as I go out locally more and tend to walk rather than take taxis. I've got a pair of glittery ballet flats that I wear a lot, and some animal print cowhide ones. But while it has been cold I've been wearing flat over the knee boots. They were an impulse sale buy, but I've ended up wearing them every time I've been out since I got them. They work with jeans or tunic type dresses and turned out to be an amazing buy.

Thanks both. I have some beautiful black ballet flats but I just don't feel dressy enough in them. Also have a few pairs of boots in various lengths and heelsbut none were really suitable for last nights black tie event Sad so I wore my favourite heels and can hardly walk today!

I have spinal problems so my shoe choice is limited, I find some of the New Look teen range of shoes work for me - I know they aren't everyone's idea of stylish though.

Watching this with interest. I used to gad about everywhere in heels but since having my baby I find them uncomfortable.

Wedges? There are some chunky heeled platforms around for summer which could be dressed up? Or Jigsaw do nice suede and metallic pointed flats which I wear out sometimes?

PlymouthMaid1 · 12/03/2017 22:47

I can t wear heels any more although I spent the eighties striding about in stilettoes... I find wedges very comfortable.

I tend to wear sparkly flats. Here are a couple of examples.

I don't wear heels either and have very small feet so usually just buy very nice comfortable sandals or Mary Jane's

I have these from Next, they have quite a good selection of dressy flats.....

I really like these silver flats.

With you on heels, i wear 2 inch max coz I'm tall but last time i wore heels they rubbed all the skin off the tope if my toes raw, had scabs for weeks after. Last few times I've been out I've worn metallic Vans or Superga with harem pants, t shirt and a nice blazer with sleeves pushed up. I tend to go for comfort these days ! Great for dancing as well !

I like the silver Supergas, or I have just picked up some dark, leopard print ballet flats from New Look, which have a very slight heel.
