Bridesmaid, doing my own makeup/hair.

Turneeps · 12/03/2017 16:35

I am a bridesmaid in June, Smile.
We are doing our own hair and make up. I never wear makeup and straightening my hair is me doing 'fancy' hair!
Wedding in countryside/sticks so can't get makeup done in Debenhams etc.

So i have time to practise but...

  • what (cheaper) brands of makeup to buy?
  • what curling wand to buy for hair?
  • any good tips for a novice?

Thank you!

This might not be what you want to hear but having someone else do your make up doesn't cost a fortune, will take a lot of stress off you, will last all day and will look much better in photos than a normal person could apply. Please consider it.

I used a few Pinterest boards for hairstyles - look up DIY hairstyles and practice practice practice.

I did my own makeup for my wedding but had the lady on the Estee Lauder counter teach me what to do first and bought most of my makeup off her. Then I practiced for flipping weeks doing the whole thing.

Originally I had someone booked to do it for me but she made me look like a batshit crazy barbie with black eyebrows (I'm very fair) so I sacked her off

But following on from thoughtfox the cost of a makeup person may be cheaper than buying makeup you won't use again

Can you get to a make up counter on the morning of the wedding? Usually they cost about 20 quid but you can then redeem that from products.

Do you have ghd's? Its possible to make your hair wavy with them.

Ah just saw wedding in the sticks

Go to Claires accessories and look at the myriad of wierd hair tools they have for updos etc.

MommaGee · 12/03/2017 17:21

I don't wear makeup and no way would I attempt for a wedding. If you can't afford to pay someone or feel it's weird when everyone else is doing their own, is there a fellow bridesmaid who will do it for you?

ElspethFlashman · 12/03/2017 17:21

Oh and check out L'oreal Infallible foundation - the one in the tube. It's basically Estee Lauder Doublewear but cheaper. Should last all night.

For my wedding I got a bob cut in which was just long enough to go into a bobble down the left handside and onto it I clipped a pre curled hairpiece. Great as it stayed in all day and night!!

Thank you everyone. Bride thinks it will be fun to all be together doing our own hair/makeup do can't really get a professional in. Bride and me are makeup virgins and other bridesmaid wears lots with huge false lashes and big pointy finger nails etc. So i don't want her to do mine as I am not a huge fan of her look.Blush

No spf in your foundation. It gives a white cast in photos.
