Where to buy 50's dresses from

I love 50's style dresses and often pick up some bargains in eBay however I now want to find one to wear to the registry office when I get married so I'm happy to spend a bit more but I want to know it's worth it!

The one in the picture is ideal but unfortunately I don't think I can justify spending over £100 despite it being beautiful Sad

Do you want genuine 50s or that style?

ReginaGeorgeinSheepsClothing · 12/03/2017 00:26

Love this!

I though you wanted 50 dresses!

I was so interested in the reason !(a show, a wedding where everyone wears the same dress etc.)

Oh it's only old style dresses you want!! No fun!

Have you seen 'stop staring ' dresses, I think they are that style but are expensive. eBay has everything!

FairytaleOfSkegness · 12/03/2017 00:33

That's gorgeous regina! Doesn't have to be genuine 50's, I just like the style Smile

Thats lollypop vintage- they have loads of others in the floral style too- I just wish I'd gone for one like that- was too guided by DM and MIL when I married many moons ago!

FairytaleOfSkegness · 12/03/2017 00:37

Haha sorry to disappoint 3luckystars

I have several LindyBop dresses and without a doubt they are my most complimented outfits ever (even got a tweet from a comedian saying she loved my dress!)

FairytaleOfSkegness · 12/03/2017 00:47

Regina that website is amazing!

I've just found this www.lollypopvintage.co.uk/vintageweddingdresses/prod_3905908-Lily-English-rose-floral-vintage-style-v-neck-full-skirt-dress-Available-up-to-size-20.html
Which is perfect as I don't want it to be too "bridey"

Hurrah! Glad you like it! And the Lily dress is lovely!

PrancerForHoney · 12/03/2017 06:40

Call me Me Betty on Facebook is amazing. She designs and makes her dresses as she only does small runs of them it makes them more special. I have a lovely collection of them which I need to get altered now I've lost weight finally.

SomewhereNow · 12/03/2017 08:55

I really like Collectif - I know they've got a shop in Brighton but not sure if there are others. Website is good though.

AgainstTheOddsNo2 · 12/03/2017 09:01

I covet a vivien of Holloway dress. I am yet to justify it though Sad

ladylunchalot1 · 12/03/2017 11:47

I live near Whitby in North Yorkshire there is a little boutique shop called The Owl And The Pussycat she sells all these style dresses I absolutely love the place and I don't think any of them are more than around £40 I think they have a Facebook page try looking on there the only problem you'll have is deciding which one! Or book a weekend in Whitby and visit the shop and get fish and chips too mmmmm hope this helps you x

TheUnseenAcademic · 12/03/2017 11:52

A friend had an amazing dress made for her here:

digforvictoryclothing.com/page/728076-our-dress-styles.aspx

I'm not sure how much it cost but know it was cheaper than most dresses bought in bridal shops.

Checkedstripes · 12/03/2017 12:22

Lady V London is also lovely for 1950's style dresses.

SharkBastard · 12/03/2017 12:29

I have 2 Vivien of Holloway dresses and can honestly say they are amazing. I want more

beansonbread · 12/03/2017 12:30

Search Grace Karin on Amazon. I've bought some great quality dresses from there lately and they're only around the £20 mark! There's some gorgeous prints and the fabric is really thick and hangs well!

There are some nice ones here - great vintage silhouettes.

FairytaleOfSkegness · 15/03/2017 14:43

Oh wow so many more gorgeous dresses to look at! Thanks everyone Smile

ladylunchalot1 the wedding is actually loosely themed around a good old fashioned day out at the beach so taking a trip to Whitby almost feels necessary Grin
