Acrylic nails or normal paint for holiday?

Hi

Going away for a beach holiday in 2 weeks it's for a family wedding too though so they'll be lots of dressing up etc.

Pros and cons of having acrylics? I rarely wear polish but I'm wondering if it's a lot of hassle to keep painting and removing it whilst away but I know acrylics is a bit time consuming and can damage your nails. Also you can change the colour to suit your outfits if you just paint them.

What do you do for holiday and if you do get acrylics what colour so it goes with all outfits. I'm going to have a bright orangy/ red for my toenails.

Xx

Get shellac done - will last for 2 weeks.

What kind of condition and length are your natural nails?

If they are decent, just get a manicure and painted. Maybe Shellac/gel?

Acrylics will be a pain if you're not used to them - if you break one while you're away it'll look crap.

Get gel polish

I've had a gel polish before but it chipped so quickly. Polish never stays on my nails for long but I've got a baby so my hands are constantly in water. I must admit I don't know if I've tried shellac though maybe that's a better brand.

My nails break quite easily but are fairly long and in good condition.

OP, Gelish and Shellac never last on my nails. I have a very thin acrylic overlay over my nail now, no extension just within the shape of mine. It lasts 2.5-3 weeks with no chipping - they just gradually grow out. I'm a total convert, I know they will damage my natural nails but I never intend to not have them so I don't care! £18 every visit...perfect!

This is my nails

Get yourself some blue sky builder gel, and a few colours from eBay. And a lamp. That's you sorted for the long run!

Please don't get acrylics! I had them and they completely ruined my own nails, they left them thin, dry and peeling. They do look lovely when you have them done and will last 4-6 weeks before you need to have the infills. The acrylic can also lift from your own nails which can be pain. All in all I'd stick with nail polish, much kinder to your nails and it's quicker to put on and take off than anything else.

I have gel/acrylic nails done when going away. They last very well. I would say you need to find a great salon. I have had some done which didn't last more than 10 days. The place I go to now I can guarantee 3 weeks out of my nails.

Ordinary nail varnish doesn't work well with suncream/oil, I can tell you that! Had to repaint everyday on holiday, and it still came off!.
Haven't tried acrylics/gel but I'm sure other posters will be able to tell you whether suncream melts them....

Shellac.

I've tried both in Dubai where it's 40+ in the summer. Last summer I had gel varnish on. It lasted really well until it peeled completely off two of my toes the day before we left. Previously I'd worn standard varnish with base and top coats, but always found that after 2-3 days it goes dull and discoloured in the heat. However, the advantage is that's it's easy to take the varnish away and touch it up, whereas I couldn't do that with my gel varnish. Maybe the solution is to have gel varnish on but take a standard varnish in an identical colour for touch ups!
