Thread 1 Thread 2 Thread 3 Thread 4 Thread 5

For those who are taking a peek and wondering whether previous threads are worth reading, we mostly discuss a bit of advanced skincare here with a perspective of seeking out the right ingredients for our particular skin needs. Distinguishing the acid toners from the actives whilst avoiding the truly unimpressive and harmful ingredients with a hope to achieve a bit of anti-ageing, alleviate irritation and sensitivities with some idle chat in between. Deviations on this thread are mostly my fault. Grin

If you're in need of some advice coming to grips with your skincare routine please don't hesitate to ask, we don't bite, only occasionally sting with a bit of Biologique Recherche P50 now and then Wink. Just make sure to state clearly what your concerns and needs are in as much detail as possible, skincare is highly individual and a random recommendation for a 'good' product will be completely different from one person to the next.

Make sure you've read the earlier threads (or at the very least the first one) so we're not being asked to answer previously raised questions. It takes a lot of time and effort to answer these queries and often the answers can be found in previous threads, but if you still have questions relating specifically to you, use the following form to make life easier on us. We generally answer one a day on a first come first served basis. Not everyone will have answers and sometimes we can't answer you at all. We're only a bunch of amateurs that can respond by suggesting what we would do in your place, for any severe conditions please seek out professional help.

Ahem, and finally a little note on spending. I'm well aware these threads cause many to reach for their wallets and spend with wild abandon. There can sometimes be a bit of a frenzy surrounding the excitement around a newly discovered product or on the back of great improvements when someone reports back. This is all great, it doesn't however, mean everything that's a sudden miracle for one will be it for you. Usually, it's a light bulb moment for connecting the right skincare ingredient with an individual experiencing a specific problem. Take your time to mull over decisions and question whether it's right for you too. Skincare is highly individual, it's a slow game that should cost mostly in patience, input, education, and perseverance. Please don't make it cost you financially needlessly.

I've managed to go away for a week and forget both my p50w AND sunscreen Shock so on an accidental acid break.

Will be interesting to see if the break has any effect.

Bought eucerin factor 50 fluid for face. Think I like it more than the anthelios; it's feel is a bit more watery.

Was lucky to find anything to be honest, on a Sunday in a small town in west of Ireland! It's only April. What would I be wanting sunscreen for!?!

Here is link if anyone wants to check it out. Haven't had time to look into anti aging ingredients yet.

botemp · 12/04/2017 12:01

It's very common to think that Althea, but unfortunately physical exfoliators only temporarily help only to make it worse long term as they are quite harsh and one often ends up in a dependent vicious cycle with them.

Chemical exfoliators are gentler, provided you can tolerate them well (glycolic being the harshest and fast acting). By the sound of it, you used to be oily/combo skinned and fell into dehydration and mild dryness with age, so it's not necessarily extreme dryness you're tackling but rather dehydration with perhaps a bit of dryness (but you may very well fall in the normal/combo dehydrated spectrum). Once you start tackling the dehydration you'll hopefully find things much more easy to handle.

The Avene water spray has silica in it which is good for soothing and barrier issues so Enid's spot on in reccing that. Just spray on after cleansing and if preferred tissue off the excess. LRP is my personal preference since I find that bit of silica unpleasant but it's useful when you have irritated skin and need that extra bit of protection.

Speaking of protection, I shall repeat for the nth time, that yes, daily sunscreen year round. I don't see the point of being diligent and spending money on skincare only to squander it away and rendering it almost useless by not protecting all that effort with a standalone broad spectrum sunscreen (SPF30 minimum but I usually end up with SPF50 as there's more choice of it these days), also topping up after every two hours of prolonged exposure. It's a no-brainer to me at this point and I always advise the low maintenance requests on here the same thing; if you only do one thing then use a broad spectrum sunscreen year round and take it off at the end of the day.

Bo - while you're about! Is the vit C I'm buying ok in the AM? I'm struggling for where to fit it PM otherwise

botemp · 12/04/2017 12:17

Yep Vit C in the AM is usually the best place for it, antioxidant content means it boosts the SPF protection.

Fab Grin now to wait for delivery!

olderthanyouthink · 12/04/2017 12:36

Now I have:

LRP toleriane cleanser
Superdrug hydrating serum
Simple day cream (almost gone)
Simple rich moisturiser (found a new bottle the other day, better than day cream, no spf, used it before)
TO Squalane
TO Lactic acid 5% + 2%
TO NMF
LRP anthelios xl ultra light fluid 50+ (well, arriving today)

Plus
LRF CIcaplast hands (there was a sale and my hands look old)

At the moment:
AM & PM
LRP toleriane cleanser
Superdrug hydrating serum
Simple day cream

PM
LRP toleriane cleanser
Superdrug hydrating serum
Simple rich moisturiser

I've been using the serum for less than a week so far and I'm supposed to give it a few weeks before introducing something new? So do I wait a while to use the SPF or add it in tomorrow AM?

Pupsiecola · 12/04/2017 12:45

Hi everyone,

Just caught up a bit. Yep, SPF50 for me pretty much every day. Finding one you like is essential. I'm cross that I've not done this for years as I do think it would have made a big difference to my skin. Hey ho. Coming into warmer weather, it's clear I will need to top up throughout the day if out and about. Bo how do you do this if you're wearing make up?

Also, I haven't bought anything new for weeks and weeks. But my PC niacinimide has almost run out. Debating whether to repurchase or try sth new. Any thoughts? I like it. I'm not looking for a cream or such like with it in. I like these drops that I can either pat on neat, or add to my nighttime moisturiser.

Well that distracted me nicely from my interview nerves...

botemp · 12/04/2017 12:46

Yes usually I recommend waiting two weeks after a product is introduced at regular use (so in the case of an acid once its introduced gradually and embedded for two weeks at the expected interval use - so not two weeks since first use if that makes sense). You can try introducing it after a week since your current product lineup is pretty gentle but use your best judgement.

botemp · 12/04/2017 12:50

Good luck with the interview Pupsie Grin

I use the Bioderma water spray (the SPF30) one if I'm wearing makeup but I tend to forego makeup if I know I'll be out and about for long periods of time and don't a good hat too.

Lemme think on the Nia, I was hoping there'd be more offerings for it now but as of yet very little.

Pupsiecola · 12/04/2017 12:55

Thanks bo. Yeah, I'm probs the same re make up tbh. I guess TO probs do one.

Thanks, and thanks. I really would like this job very much. It's interesting and it's part-time and it feels worthwhile to me. Hard combo to find.

olderthanyouthink · 12/04/2017 13:23

My LRP stuff arrived just as I posted.

Thanks bo I've give it at least a week.
I have a few spots that have come up but they were coming up before the serum I think and they seem to be going down again (I don't think they are period related but maybe).

pupsie good luck. Can I ask, what's the job?

Ollivander84 · 12/04/2017 13:27

Just had my eyebrows threaded and tinted. At home, and including top lip it was £10. Bargain

AltheaThoon · 12/04/2017 13:33

Well, my skin still feels burny today; there's a lot of heat coming off it - it's as if it's sunburn. The chemist recommended sudocrem for now but even that burnt.

I have bought (for when my skin is less irritated) LRP Cicaplast Baume B5. I googled it because the info leaflet isn't in English, and the product description says it's spf50, but it doesn't say it on the tube?

Also bought LRP Fluids and LRP Tolerance Dermot Cleanser.

I'll introduce one product at a time when i start using them. I also intend to buy the Eucerin Ultra Sensitive moisturiser, the Superdrug Simply Pure Hydrating Serum and the water spray. Finances meant i wasn't able to get them all today.

Boots also refunded my previous products no problem so thanks for suggesting that. I always thought that once something was opened it couldn't be returned, even in the case of a reaction, so that's really good to know.

Now I'm just hoping the heat reduces and my skin starts recovering so that i can begin with my new routine. Which will include SPF bo.

purple15 · 12/04/2017 13:34

Hi all
I have been following the recommendations and so far have used two of the la Roche posay fluid moisterisors.
I ran out a few days ago and because it was discountunued I preferred the Face Theory moisterisor which came today.
I am just back from boots and was looking at the La Roche Posay section and saw they had the fluid which they didn't last week.
I am getting all confused is the ultra fluid the wrong one .

AltheaThoon · 12/04/2017 13:35

Fluide and dermo!

Ollivander84 · 12/04/2017 13:36

Althea - I would be tempted when you're at home to maybe soak a flannel and pop it in the fridge and then have it over your face for a bit

AltheaThoon · 12/04/2017 13:38

Ah, i bought the Ultra Fluide today Purple. Is that one not recommended? It's the only one i could see.

AND Ollivander, that does sound like a bargain. Are you happy with the results? I've never tried threading.

AltheaThoon · 12/04/2017 13:38

Yes, good idea about the flannel. Thanks.

olderthanyouthink · 12/04/2017 13:41

Althea when I was looking at Cicaplast I noticed that there was two versions of the Baume one with SPF and one without.

Ollivander84 · 12/04/2017 13:50

Really pleased, I usually have them threaded but it's a lot more expensive in the salon I use!
The tint will fade, this is them just done - apologies for looking like hell, my pain meds are not working Grin

AltheaThoon · 12/04/2017 14:06

Thanks older, i perhaps need a separate spf then.

Ollivander they look great. I've never had my eyebrows professionally shaped. They're always a bit of a mess if I'm honest. I should probably look into it.

mintmagnummm · 12/04/2017 14:10

Ok so just to be clear....facial spf even if indoors all day??

Ollivander84 · 12/04/2017 14:13

Best way is to get them shaped and then follow the shape in between appointments Wink means you can stretch the time a bit more

olderthanyouthink · 12/04/2017 14:26

olivander they look good and that's great value!

Where I used to live, I had them threaded really well for £4 in a shopping centre but where I live now all the places seem expensive and/or like I'm going to get an infection Confused. But since I started pulling my eyebrows out I haven't had them done anyway.

BaliBound · 12/04/2017 15:32

Olli I really like your top! Eyebrows look great too. I have eyebrow envy, mine are naturally shit, I really want to get them microbladed.

In other news, Deciem has sold out of Vit C. I'm outraged! Grin So considering Azelaic acid instead (when I say considering I totally mean I have ordered Blush)

This is the problem with TO, it's so reasonably priced I want to try it all!
