Thread 1 Thread 2 Thread 3 Thread 4 Thread 5

For those who are taking a peek and wondering whether previous threads are worth reading, we mostly discuss a bit of advanced skincare here with a perspective of seeking out the right ingredients for our particular skin needs. Distinguishing the acid toners from the actives whilst avoiding the truly unimpressive and harmful ingredients with a hope to achieve a bit of anti-ageing, alleviate irritation and sensitivities with some idle chat in between. Deviations on this thread are mostly my fault. Grin

If you're in need of some advice coming to grips with your skincare routine please don't hesitate to ask, we don't bite, only occasionally sting with a bit of Biologique Recherche P50 now and then Wink. Just make sure to state clearly what your concerns and needs are in as much detail as possible, skincare is highly individual and a random recommendation for a 'good' product will be completely different from one person to the next.

Make sure you've read the earlier threads (or at the very least the first one) so we're not being asked to answer previously raised questions. It takes a lot of time and effort to answer these queries and often the answers can be found in previous threads, but if you still have questions relating specifically to you, use the following form to make life easier on us. We generally answer one a day on a first come first served basis. Not everyone will have answers and sometimes we can't answer you at all. We're only a bunch of amateurs that can respond by suggesting what we would do in your place, for any severe conditions please seek out professional help.

Ahem, and finally a little note on spending. I'm well aware these threads cause many to reach for their wallets and spend with wild abandon. There can sometimes be a bit of a frenzy surrounding the excitement around a newly discovered product or on the back of great improvements when someone reports back. This is all great, it doesn't however, mean everything that's a sudden miracle for one will be it for you. Usually, it's a light bulb moment for connecting the right skincare ingredient with an individual experiencing a specific problem. Take your time to mull over decisions and question whether it's right for you too. Skincare is highly individual, it's a slow game that should cost mostly in patience, input, education, and perseverance. Please don't make it cost you financially needlessly.

Bought some spearmint and camomile tea today so will start drinking that Brew

wiltingfast · 06/04/2017 21:45

Ok

Going to have another go at a monthly report!

Skin; early 40s, combination/dehydrated. Tends towards reactive.

EMPTIES

TO matrixyl this is nice and soothing. Feels hydrating now my skin is more balanced. Used it 1/d x 4m but really could not say I noticed any improvement. So not a repurchase .

Hylamide subQ serum Feels nourishing but tbh, hard to tell if it had any effect.

LRP toleriane fluid I like this. Simple thin moisturiser. Took a bit of getting used to, but my skin is much healthier with a light moisturiser. Have 2 left.

mintmagnummm · 06/04/2017 22:08

Which tea brand did u get olli

wiltingfast · 06/04/2017 22:11

Oops!

Ok next

PRODUCTS ON TRIAL

TO alpha arbutin
TO niacinamide
TO magnesium ascorb phosphate

I put these together as I had bought the aa and the map for pigmentation and then realised I had the whole TO pigmentation regime so been trying this out now for about a week.

The aa is quite tacky and dries quickly. No stinging or reaction so far. Feels hydrating.

I use 2 drops and 1 drop of the niacinamide (which I gave up on previously as it was irritating me and drying)

The map is a heavish cream. Doesn't spread that easily, you have to work quickly. I'd say the niacinamide in all this is to stop the aa and map from clogging up your pores. I've got used to it and this regime is titling well, it does feel heavy-ish, and I don't moisturise afterwards.

Effect is noticeable already, I can see my tone evening out a bit, some brown spots seem fainter, have a glow! V nice so far.

TO retinoid the regime says aa and this at night. Going fine so far. But v early days. No major reactions.

manyo galactomyces I really wanted to like this but it it does not seem to work on me that well. Made my skin a bit shiny even silvery. Had a patchy effect on my skin though to be fair that was when it was amplified by careless p50w testing! Still, I doubt I'll use it now and I have loads left. Would anyone else like to try it?

p50w Well. Bit of a love hate thing going on here I have to say Grin hate how careful I have to be, love the improvements I see in my skin! More even tone. Tight pores. Denser but soft looking skin. And, it IS getting easier. Still damping down my pad though!

wiltingfast · 06/04/2017 22:16

PLANNED PURCHASES

Need a new nourishing serum. Thinking about trying a NIOD one. Maybe that copper one but need to research them, stuff to improve skin barrier.

Ollivander84 · 06/04/2017 22:21

mint - just a twinings one to try the taste really!

botemp · 07/04/2017 13:45

Quick check in to catch up Smile!

Flowers for Olli, I'll refrain from asking about all things OP related and ask what you've been buying instead Wink. Any opinion on Peripera (from SK) by any chance? Have become strangely intrigued by their Ink Airy Velvet lip products but have never bought any Korean makeup under the assumption it's all a bit wishy-washy.

olderthanyouthink, for sunscreen the FT Shiseido SENKA Mineral Water UV Essence SPF50+ PA++++ is a good daily sunscreen but not water resistant, so fine for these upcoming months not so great in the height of summer. Bioderma Photoderm Ultra Fluide or LRP Anthelios XL Fluide are good alternatives, they're all chemical so won't have a white cast.

You can try the Eucerin Ultrasensitive for normal to dry skin as a moisturiser. If you're doing an order with TO you could also try their NMF moisturiser that Olli's tried but it has a bit of an odd texture. And steer clear of the creepy old men, I swear they have a honing device for that sort of thing.

Enid, I think this Evolve Cleansing Balm doesn't contain any of your irritants. Got a promo mailing about it last weekend, they have a little starter kit offer for £7 which also has a teeny weeny CB. No idea how it'll perform and it does market it for normal/dry skin. I'm still happy with the Edenens (but can't remember if that had troublesome ingredients for you or not anymore) but that isn't a balm.

Pupsie, I'm assuming you haven't found an online version of that intriguing article. I checked Dr. Sam's FB page but it's only half legible unfortunately Sad. Might have to go visit a magazine stand and spend an extraordinarily long time deciding whether I want to buy that magazine or not stealthily reading that article.

Tsmummy08, I've been looking into Anasthaxin for forever (still haven't quite made up my mind on whether supplements or topical application makes more sense) but my research keeps coming up with how beneficial it is for dry and mature skin too in moisturisers. Since it's such an antioxidant powerhouse (6000x stronger than Vit C but plays well with it too) it's ideal for a daytime moisturiser. Maybe that's an avenue to wander down for you too? I kind of want to try the Astalift one (pricey but Anasthaxin is pretty expensive, subsequently the limited amount of skincare containing it is, Astalift being the pioneer) but it's fragranced (rose apparently) so it will be a gamble for me (usually ok with Japanese fragranced products). Have now spotted a sample set on ebay which I'm heavily contemplating.

Lego, iherb has spearmint tea but it's in quite large amounts so the shipping always tripped me up. I get mine from a local tea shop who mix their own blends helpful.

For those asking about Spearmint, this makes for a good read. The short version of it, it has an antiandrogenic effect which stands at the root cause of hormonal acne. It also helps kill off acne-inducing bacteria and is anti-inflammatory. Further info here. I take it for the anti-androgenic effect (high testosterone being a recurring issue with my PCOS) so can't really assess what it does for my skin as I don't really suffer from acne but if I do it is hormonally induced. I think it might be the case that those with additional hormone issues will see more results with it.

I haven't tried unusually for me Blush
I got the 1% retinol from TO, I like the texture. And more azealic acid stuff. The serum and coverage TO foundations on pre order
A nutri ninja blender - love love love! Frozen banana in shakes is so good
And this bee print striped top from joules as its 25% off everything online this weekend
Kawaii panda beauty box - this is great and you get full size products so I will reveal when it arrives!

EnidButton · 07/04/2017 16:11

Try frozen mango too Olli

I like that top. Love the little bees.

Thanks bo. Do you think the coconut oil would be ok for acne prone skin? I can't remember if it is or not. I'll google. Smile I can't find the second one you mentioned on any English sites so guess it's hard to get hold of here.

I really like the Hand Chemistry hand cream. Annoyingly, as it's quite ££. But it does make my hands look instantly better and sinks straight in so good for quickly applying when leaving the house or in the car. I'll buy the larger size at the weekend.

I haven't bought any new make up bits yet. I really liked Lisa Eldridge's latest video with the liquid blush. Don't think I've had a liquid blusher before.

m.youtube.com/watch?v=QdeZpekMp6I

I also need pyjamas which seem impossible to get at this time of year. Exciting. Grin

mintmagnummm · 07/04/2017 16:24

Has anyone tried niod non acid acid precursor yet?

EnidButton · 07/04/2017 18:23

I'm stopping using the cosrx on my nose. I've a red lump coming up on the side of it and I never get spots on my nose. Lots of SF and black heads too.

Honestly I think I'm so ill atm that that best I can hope for is to be clean and to use make up to try not to look like a drug addict. (I only take ibuprofen!) I've seen healthier looking people in A&E.

JDSTER · 07/04/2017 20:38

It's probably the one thing I haven't tried from NIOD mint Grin

Sorry you're feeling rough Enid. I love primark pjs personally. I thought coconut oil was bad for acne prone skin.

wilting NIOD copper did nothing for me personally. It's like blue water and sinks in straight away - like water would if you know what I mean. The promise of noticeable changes to skin after 5 days didn't materialise but to be honest, when I bought it I wasn't as savvy as I am now and just bought it to try, rather than purchasing with a specific skin goal in mind, which is definitely how I view my skincare purchases now. I love what you're saying about p50. I will get round to trying it sometime. I also really like toleriane fluid, so light.

JDSTER · 07/04/2017 20:42

Forgot to say pupsie And everyone who loves Dr Sam, I think that article is on her Facebook page?

Ollivander84 · 07/04/2017 22:37

It is a good everyday one, seems to give me enough coverage but looks natural. I do prefer it applied with a beauty blender
I haven't worn makeup for 2 days ShockShock

EnidButton · 08/04/2017 00:20

JD Thank you. We don't have a Primark near us! I often see things from there and wish we did. They'd be perfect as I could get a few sets them instead of one ££ pair from Hush or somewhere. I thought that about coconut oil too...I forgot to google. Blush

Thank you Stainless been ill for almost 3 years now and it gets me down sometimes but I do get good days. We have a small picnic planned for Sunday so looking forward to that. Will just have to wear my new huge sunglasses 😎 Grin

and maybe buy more make up

EnidButton · 08/04/2017 00:22

I'm not sure about the P50w either btw. Firmly on the fence still.

Cicaplast is working it's magic on a bad blemish just hours after applying it. It's a proper holy grail product.

Ollivander84 · 08/04/2017 00:42

Enid - I really like asos pjs, I have loads of the legging pyjama sets from there

EnidButton · 08/04/2017 00:45

Ooh thank you Oll I'll have a browse now. I did see a care bear onesie on there but decided DH would think I was having an early midlife. Grin

Ollivander84 · 08/04/2017 00:50

I can't talk, I'm wearing balloon dog print ones Grin
There's lots of patterned ones but a few hush inspired jersey type

vic1981 · 08/04/2017 00:53

Yes to the LRP Cicaplast- I bought it the other week on your recommendation Enid, thanks, it is great!

RubyGoat · 08/04/2017 00:55

Just wondering - the Cicaplast, I know it's really for dry skin. But, could I use it for the area around my nose & mouth when I get hayfever or a cold? I often have such bad sneezing that the skin becomes completely raw & starts cracking & peeling, despite being usually on the oily side. Has anyone used it for something like this?

EnidButton · 08/04/2017 02:24

I would Lego Especially over night I think it'd be helpful. If you're prone to breakouts dab it on rather than rub in. Definitely worth a try. Don't know if there's more than 1 but it's the b5 one I like.

Vic That's really good to hear. It's a surprising one isn't it? Looks so basic but it's amazing.

Olli I'm Envy of your balloon dog pjs! I've favourited a few to look at again tomorrow. Trying to find some summer things too.
