Thread 1 Thread 2 Thread 3 Thread 4 Thread 5

For those who are taking a peek and wondering whether previous threads are worth reading, we mostly discuss a bit of advanced skincare here with a perspective of seeking out the right ingredients for our particular skin needs. Distinguishing the acid toners from the actives whilst avoiding the truly unimpressive and harmful ingredients with a hope to achieve a bit of anti-ageing, alleviate irritation and sensitivities with some idle chat in between. Deviations on this thread are mostly my fault. Grin

If you're in need of some advice coming to grips with your skincare routine please don't hesitate to ask, we don't bite, only occasionally sting with a bit of Biologique Recherche P50 now and then Wink. Just make sure to state clearly what your concerns and needs are in as much detail as possible, skincare is highly individual and a random recommendation for a 'good' product will be completely different from one person to the next.

Make sure you've read the earlier threads (or at the very least the first one) so we're not being asked to answer previously raised questions. It takes a lot of time and effort to answer these queries and often the answers can be found in previous threads, but if you still have questions relating specifically to you, use the following form to make life easier on us. We generally answer one a day on a first come first served basis. Not everyone will have answers and sometimes we can't answer you at all. We're only a bunch of amateurs that can respond by suggesting what we would do in your place, for any severe conditions please seek out professional help.

Ahem, and finally a little note on spending. I'm well aware these threads cause many to reach for their wallets and spend with wild abandon. There can sometimes be a bit of a frenzy surrounding the excitement around a newly discovered product or on the back of great improvements when someone reports back. This is all great, it doesn't however, mean everything that's a sudden miracle for one will be it for you. Usually, it's a light bulb moment for connecting the right skincare ingredient with an individual experiencing a specific problem. Take your time to mull over decisions and question whether it's right for you too. Skincare is highly individual, it's a slow game that should cost mostly in patience, input, education, and perseverance. Please don't make it cost you financially needlessly.

Bo - that looks excellent, thanks. I'll print it out if I can get my printer working sometime this century...

On another note, I've been doing that Japanese facial massage most days, either night or morning (occasionally both). I integrated it into my face cleansing routine, using the cleanser as the facial lubricant. No idea about wrinkle reduction (as I didn't have any to start with) but my under-eye dark circles have definitely improved. It only takes me about 5 minutes per session.

Ooh no chatter away, I will need much distraction when I'm in!!!
Should be within the month or sooner if they get a cancellation as I've opted to go on the cancellation list

Dulcimena · 03/04/2017 19:22

Enid I thought they might be Wink

Agree with the Chanel opinions, chips too easily. Lovely colours, hopeless performance. I usually go for OPI as I've found them most reliable - but I wear the same type of shades, always cremes, usually dark.

Re topcoats, I've always got on well with Seche Vite, but Sally Hansen Instadri is fine.

MARCH EMPTIES, TRIALS, AND PLANNED PURCHASES

EMPTIES:
Superdrug Vit E hot cloth cleanser as a first cleanse at night. This has definitely grown on me. It cleanses effectively and I like the consistency. I find I reach for it more often than BS camomile butter, which is also nearly empty. I'll repurchase both though as sometimes I want the oilier balm type first cleanse that BS offers.

LRP toeriane fluid I love and finished my first bottle today. So light for my combo/oily skin. I have three bottles in reserve!
TO Niacinamide. Just so so. I had high hopes for pore reduction/refinement but I really don't think it's made a difference. It's not actually an empty as I'm using it infrequently now and I won't be repurchasing.
TO Vit C. I really like this and I'm used to the texture now and don't mind it. I concur with pp who describe it as "medicine for the skin". I'm using it every morning. Onto my second bottle, or tube as it is now which I find better than dropper bottle.
NIOD HA. I was using this every morning and really like it but somehow it doesn't seem to work as well over TO vit c. It smells a bit vinegary over the top of the Vit C!

PRODUCTS ON TRIAL:
I added TO 2% retinoid approx 3-4 weeks ago and I'm getting on very well with it. This and cosrx blackhead power liquid have made the most difference to my skin. My skin is less oily in the morning when I've used the retinoid and it just seems clearer some how. I'm wearing much less foundation, just a bit around my nose now and I haven't been without foundation for years. I still need primer (pores) then powder but it really feels like an achievement to do without foundation.

PLANNED PURCHASES:
At some point I'll probably try BR50w, probably once I'm finished current cosrx, to see if it's step up in efficacy, using a different acid.

SPECIAL MENTION:
Just to say if you're not using a retinoid but it looks like it would be appropriate for your skin and the timing is right- go for it.

mintmagnummm · 04/04/2017 06:58

Ok I'm intrigued by vitamin c now everyone is raving about it! What are the benefits to the skin?? Is it something that you HAVE to apply spf after using??

botemp I don’t know why my skin is like it is at the moment, I’ve not really changed much I don't think but it wasn't always like this. I think running in winter made it worse but I mostly stopped that now laziness.

I bought the LRP cleanser and Superdrug serum on the way home and I need to introduce them one at a time, right?

My Simple moisturiser is running low, I don't think it's great or anything (my face already feels tight/dry within a couple hours), I just use it because I know should use a moisturiser and nothing horrific happens. I'm open to suggestions. And I need a different one for PM anyway or an oil/saqualane.

Sunscreen wise I'm a total noob, to me sunscreen is that blue stuff your mum smears on you or SPF15 in moisturiser. Any recommendations? I want something not tinted (I'm not the average skin colour, tinted stuff is usually paler than me, pink or ashy) and that doesn't have that weird white look (that's zinc or titanium right?). Biore watery essence looks good in reviews, would the amount of alcohol be an issue?

I have no Nip + Fab urges Smile

TIA

I think the EH balm makes me break out a little bit. Only on cheeks. So the hunt for a new cleansing balm has taken priority.

I'm currently sorting my bathroom cupboard out. I have way way too many bottles of stuff. Tons of shampoo for some reason. It was all neat and lined up nicely so I hadn't noticed but honestly I could open a mini branch of Boots. Blush

EnidButton · 04/04/2017 16:27

Also, you know when you start a job and half way through realise it's much bigger than you thought. 😩 I was only wiping the top shelf down...

Ollivander84 · 04/04/2017 16:39

I'm bored Grin and have a credit card. Oops

BaliBound · 04/04/2017 16:58

Oooohh what are you buying Olli? Grin

Ollivander84 · 04/04/2017 17:01

TO azealic acid
TO 1% retinol
TO pre order serum and coverage foundation
Shea moisturise Shea butter shampoo
L'oreal ever Riche (half price at superdrug)
Kawaii panda beauty box
Nutri ninja blender
Few pairs of earrings from jewellery box
Booked to have carpets cleaned BlushBlush

mintmagnummm · 04/04/2017 17:21

Olli what's that Shea shampoo like?

RubyGoat · 04/04/2017 17:23

Olli - I have a Ninja. Love it. So easy to prep breakfast at night while I'm sorting packed lunches, stick everything in the fridge, then 20 seconds on the Ninja & take it to work so I can drink it at a civilised time of morning.

Regarding spearmint tea - I can't get it locally. Where's the best value to order from, I'm not that keen on using Amazon as a default for everything. I would consider loose or bags. I already know I like it, so am happy to buy in bulk if it would be better value.

Ollivander84 · 04/04/2017 17:24

Lovely but v v rich. Wouldn't recommend unless hair is very dry or bad condition. Mine is dry and curly and I use conditioner by the handful!!
The l'oreal hair expertise are really good, sulphate and silicone free and cheap. Have used them for quite a few years now
bynature New Zealand is another good one although I prefer the conditioner to the shampoo. Can only seem to find it in TK maxx so I stock up when I do!

Ollivander84 · 04/04/2017 17:29

This is a tea place I keep meaning to try
http://www.adagiotea.co.uk/herbal/spearmint.html?gclid=CPyZ68Wbi9MCFUK7GwodYb8Izg

I adore teapigs but they're not the cheapest

miffy2 · 04/04/2017 17:32

I just ordered a small bottle of P50W from Skincity too :) My skin is in great condition lately and I am going to put this into my weekly routine, starting x1 per week.

olderthanyouthink · 04/04/2017 17:38

stainless my NN is because most people think I'm 3-6 younger than I am including creepy older men. OTYT works Smile

I'm looking for something for everyday, I work in a bat cave office. I venture outdoors on the weekend for a few hours a day too. I don't break a sweat coding and the glare from my screens isn't that strong. SPF50+ seems mental to me, but what do I know.

Shame about the Biore New and Not Improved formula. I think, the same LRP one is available on amazon for about £15.

Thanks for the recommendation for a running one. That's lower down on my list seeing as I keep not going and I tend to run in the evening.

EnidButton · 04/04/2017 19:08

Older I had that problem until about 33. I look a bit younger now but not teenage younger so it's fine. I sympathise. It is annoying in your 20's.

EnidButton · 04/04/2017 19:11

My bathroom cupboard is now pristine. A haven of tranquility. Grin

It looks much better. Although I have a big bag of things with no home now. It's in my dressing room waiting to be sorted.

But the cupboard is much better. It has a glass door so there's no hiding anything.
