Thread 1 Thread 2 Thread 3 Thread 4 Thread 5

For those who are taking a peek and wondering whether previous threads are worth reading, we mostly discuss a bit of advanced skincare here with a perspective of seeking out the right ingredients for our particular skin needs. Distinguishing the acid toners from the actives whilst avoiding the truly unimpressive and harmful ingredients with a hope to achieve a bit of anti-ageing, alleviate irritation and sensitivities with some idle chat in between. Deviations on this thread are mostly my fault. Grin

If you're in need of some advice coming to grips with your skincare routine please don't hesitate to ask, we don't bite, only occasionally sting with a bit of Biologique Recherche P50 now and then Wink. Just make sure to state clearly what your concerns and needs are in as much detail as possible, skincare is highly individual and a random recommendation for a 'good' product will be completely different from one person to the next.

Make sure you've read the earlier threads (or at the very least the first one) so we're not being asked to answer previously raised questions. It takes a lot of time and effort to answer these queries and often the answers can be found in previous threads, but if you still have questions relating specifically to you, use the following form to make life easier on us. We generally answer one a day on a first come first served basis. Not everyone will have answers and sometimes we can't answer you at all. We're only a bunch of amateurs that can respond by suggesting what we would do in your place, for any severe conditions please seek out professional help.

Ahem, and finally a little note on spending. I'm well aware these threads cause many to reach for their wallets and spend with wild abandon. There can sometimes be a bit of a frenzy surrounding the excitement around a newly discovered product or on the back of great improvements when someone reports back. This is all great, it doesn't however, mean everything that's a sudden miracle for one will be it for you. Usually, it's a light bulb moment for connecting the right skincare ingredient with an individual experiencing a specific problem. Take your time to mull over decisions and question whether it's right for you too. Skincare is highly individual, it's a slow game that should cost mostly in patience, input, education, and perseverance. Please don't make it cost you financially needlessly.

Bo - i definitely want to try that LRP cleanser and moisturiser when it arrives
Had my MRI yesterday for my back, got in the car today and my back went completely. Am on a lovely combo of diazepam and dihydrocodeine GrinGrin and to make matters worse it's my sodding birthday!

Dulcimena · 23/03/2017 18:35

Stainless I forgot they had a shop now - thanks for the reminder. Buffet and the Vit C are the two standouts for me and the only ones I've repurchased. Buffet is great, not sure what (if anything) it's doing long term but it does a sterling job of hydrating, calming, etc. Lovely stuff! Yes you probably need it Wink

Gosh, that must have been really surreal for you. I am glad you were safely out of harm's way and trust that your colleagues are all well. Flowers I'm not in town every day by any stretch but it really puts things in perspective.

I don't have any advice about your DC's skincare I'm afraid. When I was little a neighbour/boy had terrible eczema and had to take daily baths with added rock salt (I think). This was a fair few years ago, but I wonder what the logic was behind that? It sounds so drying.

botemp thanks for your reply. I've had a read and found it very interesting. I am currently on slimming world plan so diet and exercise for me are good. I think some of my breakouts tend to be hormonal but I'm not bad enough to seek medication...I do have the mirena coil and wonder if that has any effect. I have been Using PC skin balancing cleanser as a small sample sachet. I intend to use up the rest of my products but have invested in PC BHA liquid full size and the PC spf 30 moisturiser. I'm going to use up my products and try a few to see what suits me best. Thanks!

mintmagnummm · 23/03/2017 19:20

Ok so I'm going to see what happens (if anything) by not using my hylamide subq, am running low and am unsure whether to repurchase so am just curious to see how my skin behaves without it especially as it's being very naughty at the moment anyway.....

Ollivander84 · 23/03/2017 19:23

I'm quite intrigued by the new neutrogena Hydro Boost Gelée Milk Cleanser
Will have a look at it when it's out. LRP toleraine is doing well on my skin but it's just bland boring Blush to use

Dulcimena · 23/03/2017 19:40

2babas I haven't read your full post but I just saw that you mentioned the mirena - that made me very spotty after a few months (not instantly iirc) until around a further 3 months after it was removed. I got rid of it after I think a year or so because I felt permanently pre-menstrual Sad Definitely affected my skin. Have you noticed any difference in your skin since you had it?

yongnian · 23/03/2017 19:46

stainless I've found 2 products from a French range called topicreme to be the best thing for my super dry/eczemic/atopic skin...the one I'm currently using has 10% Urea. ( I know not everyone likes this but my skin loves it) and have used another super emollient by them too.
I too can't use anything with paraffin, lanolin in and need super-super moisture-loss barrier. I think I've tried virtually everything in the known universe as have had this problem for life too.
I do tolerate rice bran oil well, unlike your DD....but I only use it on my face as a second cleanser. It's been good for The seborrhoeic dermatitis there though. But need something easier to apply for body. (I do find a few drops of sweet almond oil in the bath effective for preventing the drying-out effect of bathing, don't know if you've tried that?)
mintmagnum nothing much too report on differences between matrixyl and HA...but I'd say the HA still has the edge for that plumping/hydrated feeling and I think I'm going to be re-ordering and swapping the matrixyl back to PM...
Interesting to read the vitiligo stuff, I have a small patch in my hairline..only really visible to me, so far...I don't consciously put SPF there, but will start.
Will be looking for a new night cream shortly, any recs??
And in other news, only 3 sleeps til new horsie arrives!!! Grin

Ollivander84 · 23/03/2017 20:07

I have vitiligo randomly which apparently isn't common in redheads at all. It's only on one hand Confused and more apparent in summer when I have freckles there. It's literally a line where from my knuckles up I have no pigmentation

yongnian · 23/03/2017 20:25

Oo ollivander I've just seen up thread - sorry to hear about back and birthday combo Flowers hope it wasn't riding-related!
Yeah vitiligo is so random...I first noticed a tiny pure white patch in my hairline about a year ago, which has now spread backwards into the hair.

Ollivander84 · 23/03/2017 20:29

Happily not! It's been bad for a while, I've had months of physio and she referred me to a consultant who sent me for an MRI. Physio thinks it's discs but we need to know what it is to look at treatment
I think lying down still aggravated it but it's completely gone

mintmagnummm · 23/03/2017 20:37

Thanks Yong

2babas2cats · 23/03/2017 20:51

dulcimena I've had the mirena since November 2015 so it's been in a while. I do notice some spots around the time I get a bleed (fairly regular despite the coil). I used Clairns lotus oil last summer and it seemed to make my spots worse. I'm pretty clear at the moment apart from a couple of spots I'm sure were caused by wearing double wear so I'm back on bareminerals and using my Paula's choice samples and my face feels great! I hope using these might help with the hormonal breakouts

Dulcimena · 23/03/2017 20:55

2babas Understood - I only mentioned it because of the problems I had with it. It sounds as though it's a much better fit for you.

JDSTER · 23/03/2017 22:21

olli (why the change hollin?Wink) I hope your back starts to improve. I've had back problems for years with an MRI that just showed 'degenerative changes'. I definitely think stress plays a part. I've read some interesting books about diet in relation to back pain, and stress/mindset. Also a great book with first aid when your back "goes completely" (I know exactly what you mean) PM me if you want more details or ignore me if you've loooked into this already.

JDSTER · 23/03/2017 22:27

stainless I'm sure you've tried lots of things but there's a company local to me who make an eczema ointment that helped when my daughter was young, along with bath oils etc called 'bria organics'

Ollivander84 · 23/03/2017 22:29

Spotted a person I know in RL Wink I don't post anything I wouldn't say anyway and I'm not anon on here but... Fancied a change I guess!!
100% with the stress thing - mine has "gone" twice before at times of immense stress but this feels totally different. It's not my usual sciatica and it's v low down, almost in my bum. MRI results should be fairly quick so I will wait and see. Hefty drugs for now until I can get some relief

EnidButton · 23/03/2017 22:32

Wasn't me was it Olli..? I post all sorts. Blush

EnidButton · 23/03/2017 22:34

Happy Birthday Olli! Have another one next week when you're less drugged up. Pretend you're the queen 👑

Ollivander84 · 23/03/2017 22:34

I don't think I know you Grin
< looks suspicious >
No, it's not anyone on this thread!

EnidButton · 23/03/2017 22:36

Grin You do look like someone I used to know actually and they loved horses but I think your age is wrong.

Ollivander84 · 23/03/2017 22:42

I'm 33 today Grin and staring in the mirror for wrinkles 😂😂

EnidButton · 23/03/2017 22:51

Not with your skin care routine! Smoooth forever. Grin
