Suggest an everyday fragrance for me

I've had a challenging few years and have been feeling a bit down trodden, taken for granted and invisible. But I'm making a conscious effort to change that.

I'd like an everyday fragrance to empower me, I'm not bothered by the name or the bottle and I'm not adverse to trying something aimed at men. To try and illustrate what I mean, I imagine it might be something that Michelle Obama might wear.

Unfortunately since having children, heavy perfumes now make me feel sick/headachey.

In the past I've worn Coco, Allure, Philosophy Grace, Clean, EA Green Tea, Molton Brown Gingerlilly and currently, Chloe, but I think I need taking out of my comfort zone.

Any suggestions gratefully received.

I'm small, blonde, look younger than I am ( 53) and have youngish children. When I want to feel efficient and be taken seriously I wear Chanel Cristalle edp or Clinique Wrappings or Tiare by Ormonde Jayne. All are rather Austere Cool Greens.Of failing that if you want something completely new try some samples from Bloom Perfurmery .I've just ordered a set of 10 online as I'm intrigued by some new Greens and Florals.
A complete departure from your brief - You might like Eclat d Arpege for everyday .Its a fresh floral that's wonderful in Summer and is easy to buy and love.

I can't stand Estee Lauder perfumes but love Jo Malone. The problem is Jo Malone doesn't last long enough.

My favourite perfumes are

Hypnotic Poison
Tobacco Vanille- Tom Ford (expensive but so worth it)

Lime, Basil and Mandarin, Myrhh and Tonka, Orris and Sandlewood- from Jo Malone (have to layer to get the smell to last a bit longer)

Those are the scents I wear regularly.

TSSDNCOP · 09/03/2017 12:13

Try the Mimosa and Cardomum from Jo M. That's my kick-ass.

For something bold and confident, try Tom Ford Black Orchid or Velvet Orchid.

Visit the Sisley counter and try a few of their fragrances. Every single one is beautifully put together and fairly unlikely to cause headaches I would have thought. The lasting power and projection of all of them is well above average without being heavy. The new Sisley called Izia is a clean citrussy fragrance that packs the signature Sisley look-at-me punch and would match part of your previous fragrance profile. Soir d'Orient is IMO one of the best fragrances ever made and well worth a try. I would happily wear it during the day but many would consider it an evening fragrance.

I would second a previous poster's recommendation of Chanel Crystalle. The EDP is a bit softer than the EDT with an added peach note, but Crystalle, despite it's apparent lightness is very much a one-spritz fragrance - it has a magnificent projection and you can overdo it without noticing! Very classy, and IMO a far, far superior fragrance than the muddled and muddied Chance.

I love the Perfume Parlour dupe Prada Candii. It's gorgeous.

I also love Library of Fragrance Moonbeam layered with their Vanilla Ice Cream.

AndNoneForGretchenWieners · 09/03/2017 17:33

Shadow by Ajmal is exotic but not too heady. I think it's elegant. It was my day to day perfume until DH bought me a new Coco Mademoiselle which is my ultimate favourite.

nigelforgotthepassword · 09/03/2017 19:15

L'eau d'issey miyake...or the summer version of it-both light, both perfect for day.

GetAHaircutCarl · 09/03/2017 19:33

My go to scent for serious meetings is No 19. Or Crystal.

Outside that I'm currently loving Velvet Orchid.

oldfatandtired1 · 09/03/2017 19:37

Issey Miyake (I know it doesn't agree with you!) and Clarins Eau Dynamisante are my go to everyday fragrances.

AgentCooper · 09/03/2017 19:40

Big yes to Philosokos, that's a gorgeous scent.

I'm wearing Eau de Lierre by Diptyque today, which I think is meant to smell of ivy. It's green, grassy but with something else in there, I love it.

Scoose · 09/03/2017 19:44

I love tom ford neroli portofino

ElspethFlashman · 09/03/2017 19:45

Oh I forgot about Hypnotic Poison. It's lush, it smells to me like warm pillowcases straight out of the airing cupboard.

woodhill · 09/03/2017 20:04

hollie I agree, I love Clarins perfume and I often wear the blue one. Also like the floral one

Dontfencemein · 09/03/2017 20:13

Aqua di Parma or Miller Harris do some lovely fresh scents. I also love the blue Clarins one for everyday. It has a lovely light, clean scent.

Plumpysoft · 09/03/2017 21:06

Ombré dans l'eau by Diptyque. So unusual it's almost addictive

hollieberrie · 09/03/2017 21:14

Yessss woodhill & Dontfence, Blue Clarins for the win!! Its gorgeous, lifts my spirits every morning Grin

Reow · 09/03/2017 21:22

I actually use essential oils quite a bit as a casual fragrance. Patchouli or geranium

ElizabethAllen · 09/03/2017 23:24

Thank you, I'm amazed at the number of responses. Can't tell you how much I appreciate the thought you've put in.

I'm excited to be going browsing tomorrow, there's a big John Lewis so I can try some of the more widely available fragrances. The others I will look at online and see if I can order some samples so I don't miss finding "it".

Don't be put off by the name Lovely - I was for ages but it doesn't smell anything like the wishy washy image the name portrays. It smells really peppery and crisp.

mowgelijeffs · 10/03/2017 08:38

Oh I also forgot,
Commes Des Garçons no.2 is amazing

woodhill · 10/03/2017 10:35

I'm wearing O de Lancôme, citrusy but lovely and fresh.

Shame the sunshine disappeared.
