School should have framing etc contacts - hand it over to them to sort.

addle · 26/03/2017 22:09

So lovely to see crepeys on Saturday. WAF still pondering the reading issue.

Herbs, I am indeed reassured that Margot is enjoying your positive regard.

Hattie - may come back to you for advice on uni destinations north if that's ok

Crem - look forward to seeing you over the water in the summer

Mrs S, I think Art GCSE can also be stressful (as I remember from DD's GCSEs) because unlike with more essay/science based subjects you can't put on a sudden burst of attention but need to produce a range of work that shows progression and understanding. sounds as though dd2 has done all that tough stuff though so hope it will unfurl smoothly now

BTM, lovely pic of you and DS. sorry about the sudden loss but does sound like life well lived

Mother's day fish stew for dinner from DD and lindt chocolates from DS. V nice. A breakfast in bed had been promised but was always highly unlikely from children who were a) elsewhere and b) not in until 5am

Cinema club thingy this evening with DP as most Sunday evenings - Light between Oceans. (Long) load of hooey, although beautiful.

motherinferior · 27/03/2017 07:24

I have stuck to my promise to make Proper Cooked Breakfast for GCSE days. Art kicks off later here too...

IDismyname · 27/03/2017 07:58

MrsS - anything to do with Art or Design (and I can put DT in there too) - is a monstrous drain on those that are time constrained.

I know DS was on his knees about this time in Yr11. It is a phase, and it will pass. It will be Hell, but that will make this Summer so much sweeter!

I seem to recall we had a big(ish) chunk of time off at the end of the Easter term, before revision began in earnest. I think I suggested we went away for a few days, but that didn't actually happen.

Lie ins for a few days, maybe a day at the beach (my answer to everything), and then a revision diary?

I used to print the weeks out, and we'd then put any arrangements in (dentists etc), then chunks of time off esp at weekends.

It worked for us!

motherinferior · 27/03/2017 08:37

DD1 flatly refuses any of my half-hearted suggestions of assistance. Fortunately the school does a lot of revision sessions. Just hope today goes ok! And tomorrow...

Rosebag · 27/03/2017 09:03

Never mind Crem. Hope you and DH had a lovely weekend.

BTM I'm sorry about your DGodF....that's sad. These people can be so important in our lives Flowers

MrsS I think the school are being a bit cheeky, re framing! I can only agree with all the others about Art GCSE, and indeed music. The workload ruins the subject and knocks all the creativity out of the DC. But this too will pass. God I just say 100 times a day to myself how happy I am to be out of the school education system. What's doing with your DM?

I also agree with Cloud's time table thing...we still do it for DD every week....with all the leisure time and other activities in, as well as assignments, shows, rehearsals etc.

Mother's Day passed with suitable entertaining of DM and DMIL...with DS2 and DH is attendance in body only...spending most of the time on their phones. I had a right go at them about it, later on. Angry I am now awake in a house with 2 comatose teens who I am unlikely to see before lunchtime. This week I am staring down the barrel of another course cancellation which might mean no work until June at the earliest. And a show down with ConS on Wednesday.....to which I am not looking forward.

Reasons to be cheerful...

Getting gels done this morning

Baujken haul - keeping this gorgeous sweater although sending back these as silly and short and this knit as way too boxy on me

motherinferior · 27/03/2017 12:36

I need shoes. Possibly these?

Cremolafoam · 27/03/2017 12:43

I like those a lot MI, i have a similar pair in black , but silver looks really useful. Good transition shoes between seasons.

Sorry again Rose, and also for all the hooha with Conscript. Hope it is not as bad as you think and it can be put down to artistic differences.Flowers

Am soaking up art and cutcha this morning. Verily sucking it in, after lengthy starvation. Grin

Lalsy · 27/03/2017 13:41

You soak away, Crem Grin.

We did timetables/shared calendars too - but dc had long study leaves and hols with no structure from school. Otherwise, revising/fiddling around with phone took over and we never had any enforced family fun.

Oh no about course cancellation, Rose.

Cremolafoam · 27/03/2017 14:53

I can recommend the Hockney exhibition- simply marvellous. I particularly liked the charcoal drawings, which show how he was brilliantly skilled at drawing. Just my thing. But SO busy. Enjoy Mrs W and any others contemplating a visit.Smile

Off home now, so see you soon Crepiesxx

Lalsy · 27/03/2017 15:16

I LOVED the charcoal drawings, Crem. Found whole exhibition very up-cheering, especially seeing Yorkshire rendered in Southern California colours. Nice stuff in the shop too [shallow].

bigTillyMint · 27/03/2017 15:42

Oooh that's good Cremo/Lalsy - Have just booked to go with a friend next week!

Like that jumper Rose!

Rosebag · 27/03/2017 17:04

Safe journey Crem! Sad to miss the Crepeys from Forrin. You too, Hatty ...when are you next due into St Pancras?

Am looking up Hockney as we speak....DD mentioned it a while ago. I love museum shops, Lalsy and got my recent and now, favourite scarf at the V&A shop recently. I am the queen of shallow. my one has sold out and was half price but they are beautiful is silly prices

My nails are suitable gelled which gives me a lot of confidence...sad but true. And I have booked a trim and blow dry tomorrow... I am gearing up to the Rose/ConS summit and need all the Dutch course I can get. I may power dress although what that is, these days I am not sure....There may be raised voices and probably tears.

Nice afternoon pottering and shopping in the sun, with DS2 who is home for the hols but off to Barcelona language school for a week next Sunday.

Rosebag · 27/03/2017 17:05

Dutch courage...

Cremolafoam · 27/03/2017 17:12

All types of EU Courage to you , lovely Rose 🇪🇸🇹🇯🇾🇪🇨🇭🇮🇪🇳🇮🇹🇯🇫🇷🇩🇪

Lalsy · 27/03/2017 17:56

Nice little museum shop - indeed nice little ex and cafe - here till 23 April.

Bon courage, Rose.

wordassociationfootball · 27/03/2017 18:18

Crem, I'm sad to have missed you.

MI and Hatty, how did you not hear my full on whistle down Piccadilly Smile

Yesterday my DM said 'It's impossible to get any cheese in this place,' (hospital). She is so not dying any time soon, so I have sis's blessing and MY TRIP TO NEW YORK IS BACK ON!!!!

Going next week for 5 nights with DD1.

Sorry, crepies, could you remind me of your top things to see and do. Quirky is good. As I think I said before, DD1 is not fussed about 'going up things' although we might well do the Rock.

Collymollypuff · 27/03/2017 18:29

Dd loved all the art museums, WAF.

Lalsy, my mates are raving about that one. Must go.

MrsSchadenfreude · 27/03/2017 18:48

Crem, sorry about this pm. Ended up leaving work early as Mommy Dearest has been discharged, so on way back to Hers. She has refused all help from physio and OH so this will be fun. Am staying no longer than 2 days.

bigTillyMint · 27/03/2017 19:09

WAF, I am so pleased for you And well jel!

When I I went in October, we stayed in Manhattan (on the edge of Times Square/Meatpackers) and did:
The Highline and Chelsea Market
Top of the Rock (booked ahead for 8am - fabulous, only ones up there initially!) - I wouldn't do ESB as well - you see it from TOTR
Statten Island Ferry free!!!!
Times Square
Ground Zero Museum (booked ahead - timed visits, very busy!)
Brooklyn Bridge (Grimaldis pizza place just under it is an institution - fab)
One World Tower at sundown - fantastic (booked after we went to the Ground Zero Museum in the late morning)
Shopping in Macey's (Andrews coffee shop for breakfast - real NYC!) and all along Broadway
Central Park
Grand Central Station
Chrysler building
The Tenement Museum on the Lower East Side (plus deli from When Harry met Sally - wow so huge and food was great - Jewish place)

All were fabulous!
Plus Justin Timberlakes Southern food restaurant one evening.

HTH!

Sending strength, MrsS

hattymattie · 27/03/2017 19:58

WAF - your whistle must have been drowned out by the Piccadilly Circus traffic. So pleased you can go to NYC though - BTM - that's a brilliant list I wish I'd had similar when I went many years ago (although it was so long ago the two towers were still standing).

Had an unexpected afternoon off school as the teacher had an unplanned meeting and the classes were jigged around at the last minute. It has been a glorious day here, have walked in the forest with DD1 a nice counterbalance to central London.

Crem - do have a safe trip back, lovely to see you. albeit briefly.

Beachy - your holiday looks amazing - am motivated to to similar.

NUFC69 · 27/03/2017 20:02

Feeling very envious, WAF. What a lovely thing to do with DD. Good news about your DM.

Rose, I loved the jumper; so sorry about the course cancellation, and give ConS a piece of the Crepeys' minds. MI, those shoes would look like boats on me - wide size 7.5, but I bet they will look great on you.

MrsS, good luck re DM, and repeat after me 'I will not throttle mommy dearest'. Welcome home, Crem. MU sounds great. How are you doing BD?

I had a lovely day on my combined Mothering Sunday/birthday. DS arrived with the DC for breakfast (letting DDiL have a lie in), and DD arrived with her DC in the afternoon, having had her lie in and breakfast in bed in the morning.

Blackduck · 27/03/2017 20:17

NU hi - thanks for asking. Not great here so mainly lurking nod not posting.

Working through stuff and trying to decide what to do.

Love to all and strength to those who need it.

Cremolafoam · 27/03/2017 22:02

Mrs S , think nothing of it. I did some art instead. Ah yes, The denial of needs in relation to social care by parents seems to be a running theme. I sympathise.
Hey BD, thinking of you. Decisions so hard I find. Is it our stage of life? I have been so used to providing for other people I don't actually know what it is I really want. or indeed how little money I could manage on. I'm guessing everything whizzes round and round in circles in your head , as it does on mine. Keep breathing, dear BD.Flowers

Waf , sorry to miss you too. Wow NYC!, now let me have a think about that one.

IDismyname · 27/03/2017 22:54

Todays news -

  1. Interior Design possible job - NOT possible. F-all money, too.
  1. Have managed to completely screw ipad up on a software update. Not even Apple seem to be able to unravel. Am iPad-less :(
  1. DS took himself off on his own to bike at a nearby large Hill ( you'd know the one, Beachy) and nearly knocked himself out, and filled the rest of his face with gravel. Cue 3 hours in A&E. I am beyond livid at his sheer disregard at basic common sense.

He looks so awful, I can't think that the local hostelry where he is 'bar-manning' will want him at work.

DH (usefully in London all week) has suggested grounding him.

(Hey! I play the Good Cop in this family - thats your job to tell him.)

Can someone post nice soothing pictures of puppies or something?? Grin
