What to do with stringy hair?

Below chin length bob and desperate to grow a bit longer.
The back and fringe are in reasonable condition but the sides are thin and stringy.
The BBH hasn't helped so I'm trying to use it less and have started using Moroccan oil, apart from having it cut short is there a solution? Please don't tell me I'd destined for short hair forever.

Mousse. Dried upside down.

Someone here was raving about the Elnett one the other day.

From my own experience there's nothing I can do to stop my sides looking stringy, they're just not thick enough. Frequent brushing helps (I used to carry a small brush in my coat pocket) but I have accepted now that my hair looks infinitely better in a short, well maintained bob.
