Q about online dresses

So - I have a family wedding to go to this year. I'm looking at retro style swing dresses online. The ones that I'm getting links to our super cheap (less than $30, I'm in the US) which makes me think that
a) they're made in some horrendous sweat shop and
b) the material will be really low quality, and sizing questionable.

I could really regret buying something like that online, couldn't i?

Plus - Ive never actually work a dress like that so trying it on would be sensible.

I have enough money so spend some $$$ on this btw, but have no idea where to search (online or in RL) for this kind of thing.

Do they have a returns policy?

Or could you treat it as a gamble?
Spend $30, you MIGHT get a fab dress, you might have wasted $30.

If you're looking at retro swing, what about trying Lindy hop or Vivienne of Holloway, both uk based, I can vouch for the lovely quality of the Lindy hop frocks too.

The OP is in the US, do Lindybop exist there? Or would it be sensible with shipping etc?

MyKidsHaveTakenMySanity · 26/02/2017 19:11

I've bought Lindyhop style dresses from sites such as AliExpress a few times. They're fantastic and the same ones that most US and U.K. dress retailers sell. Unfortunately, nearly all of them are made by the same sweatshops I'm afraid. I pay the manufacturer direct rather than the inflated prices from the stores.

The only issue I've had is the sizing. I always order larger as they measure small.

KickAssAngel · 26/02/2017 19:43

I was thinking about LindyBop style. I also think that they're suspiciously cheap.

I don't think they ship to the US. I could get one ordered to my parents house, then they mail it over. OR I order it to arrive just as I get home, but that will only be 2 days before the wedding, so I'd need to have a back up option packed in case.

The $30 ones look shiny and cheap on the website, so I'm not going to order them.

Thanks for the comment about the sizing, MyKids, at least I have an idea.

I may just order one to see. I'm not even sure if there is such a thing as non-sweat shop clothing, unless you have the $$$ for designer couture, which I don't.
