How can I get 'glowy' skin please??

Pleasehelp11 · 24/02/2017 13:15

I have combination skin. Dark circles under my eyes (permanent) have quite a bit of stress going on. Not a good combination.

I get spots so I'm currently using avene skin care range. I exfoliate a couple of times a week. I am currently using the nip and fab pads. Wear make up every day, using Mac foundation and concealer.

I always look tired, worn down etc. My skin never looks flawless and lovely despite make up. I drink plenty of water and have a good diet.

Please does anyone have any tips or any wonder products??

Clarins Self-Tanning Instant Gel ooh, gonna try buying some of that today!

What is baking ?

Nanasueathome · 25/02/2017 11:00

Try Dermalogica Multivitamin Power Recovery Mask

Pleasehelp11 · 25/02/2017 11:06

I use white eye liner already!

Strange what you say about Vaseline, if I forget a couple of times a week to do it my skin is worse? A lot of creams make the under eye skin sting and burn though? Oulatum and aveeno are the worse culprits.

Will have a look at the Mac strobe for sure. I take it the clarins isn't a wash off one? Yes what is baking I haven't heard of that either! When I went into Mac store I was using touch eclait under my eyes and wasn't enough, the lady in the store put the concealer on me and def looked better but still sat in the wrinkles so I don't think it's something I'm doing as such.

I wouldn't mind just having to put up with dark circles...... it's when it's combined with awful skin all over!!

Pleasehelp11, baking is really just another method for making your make-up sit better and last longer.

You apply concealer under your eyes onto moisturised skin, then use a damp beauty blender sponge to blend it in. Then dunk the damp blender into loose powder (folks use anything from Baby powder to Laura Mercier/Bobbi Brown specially formulated under eye brightening powder) and pat into the concealer. Then leave for a few minutes and dust off with a fluffy brush. This sounds like it will be cake, but it actually keeps make-up where you want it and not in fine lines.

Here's a link to a few videos for you:

Oilatum irritates me too, it depends on my eczema how much creams sting, the epiderm is usually ok.

Pleasehelp11 · 25/02/2017 11:19

Thanks I will have a look at the video when I'm on laptop.

Iv tried so many 'ezcema friendly' type creams for under my eyes but can't find one. Costs a lot too when I'm only using once and you don't get sachets etc from boots and the likes to try.

It is bloody frustrating, eczema is a horrible thing, I feel your pain.

I haven't tried it but I have been recommended a cream by LUSH for eczema, a lot of people online have recommended it, I think it's called Dream Cream and you can use it all over your face, I don't think it is too expensive so might be worth a try? Let me see if I can find a link... hang on

PollyPerky · 25/02/2017 11:40

Have you tried any Eucerin products (Boots) ? They are made for skin with eczema - it used to be all the did- and they gradually added skin care to the range. Might have an eye cream. Also, rosehip oil is very anti inflammatory- Trilogy is good and you can get a small bottle for about £16.

Here is a link for Lush directly, but they will give you samples so could be a great cheap way to check if it works for you:

LoupGarou · 25/02/2017 12:03

For eczema I use udder cream, it clears it up very quickly. I sometimes use it as face cream too, or sort of as a soothing primer. I used the Udderley Smooth brand, its very cheap too.

For fake tan I love the Garnier one, it smells of apricots and seems to come out a lovely natural colour which you can build with more layers, whereas some others come out sort of maroon on me, I do have olive-ish skin though so perhaps that's why.

Sugar...I eat quite a lot of sugar, especially since perfecting a gluten free cookie recipe, and we live in the US so sugar seems more of the norm here. I haven't noticed any difference between having a very low/almost no sugar diet when I tried it for six months and a my current diet. The same with dairy. I think different things work for different people and its trial and error to find out.

I also look a lot younger, to the point where I get ID'd in bars Hmm.

Pleasehelp11 · 25/02/2017 12:08

THabks all. I use eucerin on my arms and legs due to horrid bumpy skin and that has helped upper arms loads. I think the 10% urea one? Would that be ok to try under eye?

Will have a look at lush and try to pop in to get a sample. Haven't heard of the udderly range, where sells that? loup I got asked for I.D the other week for buying a vegetable peeler I kid you not! Apparantly there's age restrictions same as buying knives!

Yy to the Lush Dream Cream which doubleshotespresso recommended, its fantastic stuff and great as a body moisturiser.

LoupGarou · 25/02/2017 12:13

I get mine from the grocery store Please but they have it on amazon UK www.amazon.co.uk/Udderly-Smooth-60259X24-Moisturising-Cream/dp/B0000AS54S/ref=sr_1_6_a_it?ie=UTF8&qid=1488024695&sr=8-6&keywords=Udderly+smooth&tag=mumsnetforum-21

They have several other versions and different sized pots, but this is the one I use.

LoupGarou · 25/02/2017 12:14

Grin At being ID'd for a vegetable peeler! Its crazy.

PollyPerky · 25/02/2017 12:27

There is this eyecream by Eucerin as well as loads of others that promise the earth.

Destinysdaughter · 25/02/2017 12:27

Great thread! Going to try the turmeric face mask and the Clarins self tan gel is what I'm going to spend my John Lewis voucher on! Smile

doubleshotespresso · 25/02/2017 12:59

LoupGarou did you find the dream cream helped with eczema specifically?

Pleasehelp11 · 25/02/2017 13:03

loup I kid you not. I found it too funny to be offended!!

The la Roche products, Iv seen reviews say it's very drying. If my skin is combination, and prone to eczema round my eyes will it be too drying for me?

I wonder wether I'd be able to wangle a sample of the clarins self tan....

OP posts:
LoupGarou · 25/02/2017 13:05

doubleshotespresso yes I did, I used to get it behind my knees and the dream cream really soothed and cleared it up. I did have to apply it every day diligently but it made a big difference. Its also helped a friend with her psoriasis.

LoupGarou · 25/02/2017 13:08

Please Grin I was once ID'd for a small kitchen knife after chatting to the sales assistant about just having bought a gun which I needed my restricted firearms licen for - perhaps they thought I was a wannabe serial killer?

scorpio1981 · 25/02/2017 13:13

Dead sea mud. I use the body mud (you're not supposed to but its much stronger than the face stuff) on my face a couple of times a month. Leave it on to dry for 10 mins, wash it off with warm water. I don't know what's in it but my skin (Freckled & pale) feels lovely afterwards with a tingly glow. Also a bracing walk up a nearby very steep hill works wonders too. Thankfully I live in the countryside so little or no pollution to deal with which must play havoc with skin in cities.

eyespydreams · 25/02/2017 13:41

OP I think you're doing all the right things with skin care so it's just maybe the makeup technique? I was getting complimented on my glowy skin last night which def ain't natural as I have a 3 yr old and baby... I think that for some people, me included, full foundation can never be glowy. I second previous poster saying get a Korean product. Then mix foundation/bb cream or whatever on the back of your hand and mix a bit of highlighter in with it and maybe a drop of moisturiser too. Get that on and don't worry that it's not covering the acne. Then get a brush and something like Laura mercier secret camouflage or Kevin aucoin sensual skin enhancer (super densely pigmented concealer) only on the bits that REALLY need it. I use maybelline touch eclat type concealer wand under the eyes (often on three for two) and their Fit Me powder applied with the pouffe under the eyes to set concealer and then very lightly with a brush over rest of face to take the shine off a little. Then I use hourglass candlelit like a bronzer, over cheeks, up towards temples and across brow. Super natural, super glowy. I really do get asked what products I'm using all the time!

welshmist · 25/02/2017 13:43

cover up dark shadows with whatever highlighter suits your purse touche eclat is the best imo. but L`Oreal do a good one. My friend worked in the office of a laundry, girls/women would start with awful spotty complexions within a few months they were clear, ergo steam is a good pore opener. As for glowing skin, you still imo. cannot beat ultraglow a very old fashioned product, which needs very careful application with a very big brush tapped out, build it up as you need. The pressed is probably safer for a novice.

Remove all dairy from your diet. Well known for causing all sorts of hormonal issues including spots.

Tilliii · 25/02/2017 14:23

By dairy I mean all butter, cheese, milk, cream😊
