How can I get 'glowy' skin please??

Pleasehelp11 · 24/02/2017 13:15

I have combination skin. Dark circles under my eyes (permanent) have quite a bit of stress going on. Not a good combination.

I get spots so I'm currently using avene skin care range. I exfoliate a couple of times a week. I am currently using the nip and fab pads. Wear make up every day, using Mac foundation and concealer.

I always look tired, worn down etc. My skin never looks flawless and lovely despite make up. I drink plenty of water and have a good diet.

Please does anyone have any tips or any wonder products??

I cannot recommend looking into korean skincare enough. I've been reading and moving to a new routine for about 6 months now and my skin has never been better. I also have combination, acne-prone skin too. there are some good intro articles on www.reddit.com/r/AsianBeauty/

For makeup, I recommend a salmon/peach undereye corrector under concealer (I've used bobbi brown in the past but others are around) and nars radiant creamy concealer. Not tried it but I'm itching to try the becca backlight primer a go, the reviews look great...

I've never heard of green tea turning your teeth brown, I drink lots of it and my teeth are pure bright white. I don't know anyone else who drinks it who has brown teeth either Confused.

ChickenVindaloo2 · 24/02/2017 20:55

Loup - tea is notorious for turning your teeth brown/yellow over time.

Tis on t'internet!

Pleasehelp11 · 24/02/2017 21:03

Brown teeth! Even more of a reason for me not to drink it!! Grin I shall give it a go..... will look into Korean stuff too.

I put Vaseline on my eye lids and under my eyes as sometimes prone to eczema and can get dry. They aren't dry now but make up sits funny on my skin but particularly under my eyes, where I need a magic concealer to cover the bags!

Salmon & Avocados
Elizabeth Arden 8 hour miracle oil spray
Increase water consumption
Clarins beauty flash balm

Pleasehelp11 · 24/02/2017 21:05

I drink lots of water, always have done, I could of course try to increase even more, I think! Live avocado, have some almost ripe waiting for me. Salmon is ok.... but expensive!

I was hoping that green tea would not stain as badly as black, but my hygienist informed that indeed it does... Sad

But she also said that if I keep my mouth clean of plaque, the stains would not have much to adhere to.

I don't excercise as much as I should as my back is knackered. I do yoga and I walk a lot. The fresh air from running is probably good for your skin too! I haven't tried the face and body one but have heard good things about it.

Becca shimmering skin perfector. A little goes a long way. You put it in before your foundation, and it given your skin a wonderful glow. If you finish off with a matt make up fixer, like NYX, you're set for the day. I don't have enough dietary knowledge to recommend fixing from the inside, but I'm sure others will.

EatsLeavesAndShit · 24/02/2017 21:21

Try to quit dairy, or at least make it a once-a-week thing. I had acne for 15 years and quitting dairy got rid of it. Now I have 2 lattes a week and chocolate and spots are a very rare event. Bread also seems to set the acne off though. Sad

Also lots of salmon, like 4/5 times a week, or an omega 3 capsule twice a day if you can't/ don't want salmon.

LoupGarou · 24/02/2017 21:47

Chicken I know black tea does, but I've never personally had it with green tea. That said I live in the US where all toothpaste seems to have industrial strength bleach in so I doubt I'd notice!

Hello OP- My skin took quite a battering after I had my LO, I have made a few changes that have made a significant difference. Due to lots of problems since giving birth (namely the relentless backache!) and lack of sleep, I also drink shedloads of coffee, but these things below really have helped.

Skincare:

-Double cleansing: Hot cloth using an oil cleanser, followed by a balm.
-GENTLE toner type, (am using Boots Glycerine & Rose at the minute)
-Liz Earle eyebright soaked onto a cotton wool pad and placed over eyes. Really "wakes up" your eyes and gives the illusion of sleep!
-Serum (makes a massive difference) and really boosts/plumps up my skin.
-Daily moisturiser, mixed with a few drops of rosehip oil. Helps make-up glide on and also gives a glow look that lasts.
-Primer. This is a game changer in terms of how my foundation sits on my skin and also how it lasts as a base.
-Facial scrub a few times a month.
-Cleansing pads maybe once every 7-10 days (they're similar to Nip n Fab, but less astringent.

Night-time:

  • Elizabeth Arden 8 hour cream under eyes (this is a wonder product for me, I use it for everything from helping eyebrows and lashes to grow, to eradicate dry/eczema patches/lip balm/stops dry skin on hands blah blah
-Facial oil -Night cream

Make-up wonder products I have discovered:

-Max Factor 3 in 1 serum foundation
-YSL Touche éclat foundation
-Christian Dior Forever foundation
-L'oreal Infallible ( i mix this with lightening drops as I'm too bloody pale)
-Laura Mercier tinted moisturiser : I use this on days when I want to rest my skin but don't want to go completely free of make-up. (Working from home days/Weekends etc)
-Becca under eye brightener ( I honestly cannot recommend this enough)
-Benefit eyebright (brow bone / inner eye)
-Boots 17 Lip and Cheek gel -gives a lovely sheer wash of colour with a great sheen/glow and then I don't "need" highlighter
-I use a facial oil sometimes on my cheekbones (where you would put highlighter), makes skin glow and look healthier.
-I use as little powder as possible all over my face, it just clogs and sits wrong on my skin.

Hope some of these help!?

Quick question: How are you APPLYING your make-up? There are a few tricks you can follow to get rid of dark circles and stop concealer sitting in creases under your eyes -very effective and lasts well too.

Diet is of course important, I eat a pretty balanced diet, don't eat processed stuff and rarely drink. I notice a decline in my skin if I stop greens and similar for a couple of days... I should drink more water/ less coffee, but hey we all do what we need to in order to get through the day..

Gwenhwyfar · 24/02/2017 22:32

"And ditch those nip n fab things, do less to your skin, you will really see the difference"

What's the rationale for that Dame?

DameXanaduBramble · 24/02/2017 22:37

Personal experience.

doubleshotespresso · 24/02/2017 23:11

I think the Nip n Fab pads can really strip the skin if you overuse them. It is difficult, because when you initially use them, the results are quite impressive, you are therefore tempted to use them more.

I would agree giving your skin a break sometimes and allowing the natural oils and stuff to form properly helps. But his takes time and requires much more patience!

Everybody responds differently to products, some become wonder products for some, in others they will cause a bad reaction. I don't think there's any real rule for all.

IsitJustFantasy · 24/02/2017 23:13

When I was in my early twenties I went through a phase of eating lots of salmon and drinking green tea everyday. My skin did actually look really good, it had never looked as good as that and certainly doesn't now. Maybe it's worth a try.

IsitJustFantasy · 24/02/2017 23:14

I might try it myself.... My skin isn't exactly spotty but it looks sort of congested. I recently bought a blackhead extractor tool from the body shop and went a bit mad. Think I should have been more gentle. Left my face covered in scabs. Not a good look.

Bloomed · 24/02/2017 23:28

I have found a zinc spray to really help calm breakouts/redness down. I use La Roche-Posay Serozinc Spray. It's very gentle on my skin.

Orangebird69 · 24/02/2017 23:31

Pixi Glow Tonic is fab - totally worth every penny. And yes to Serozinc spray too.

Orangebird69 · 24/02/2017 23:32

Also, good fish oil capsules, lots of water and avoid sugar.

TheMaddHugger · 25/02/2017 04:58

make some of this, and add to your foundation

((((((Hugs)))))))) 😺

TheMaddHugger · 25/02/2017 05:28

What happens when you forget to exfoliate ? It may be making your skin worse doing it too often.

Use olive oil and grape seed oil as a weekend skin treat. Just wash skin. apply a half teaspoon of each. Massage, leave on.

  • Grapeseed oil is the oil that's extracted from grape seeds. - It's non-comedogenic which is just a fancy word for "it doesn't clog pores". - It is known to treat acne, tighten skin, help diminish dark circles around the eyes, moisturize, reduce scars, restore collagen and fight aging.

Castor oil is Fabulous too [health food shop or Chemist] - www.stylecraze.com/articles/amazing-benefits-of-castor-oil/#gref

I am wondering if the current products you are using is half the problem. Too processed and harsh

Green tea is Fab. add it to a spot of fruit juice to make it taste better. Can also use the green tea as face mist. or Toner.
cucumber is naturally refreshing and also a fab toner. [I blend mine into a fine juice.] a little goes a long way.

TheMaddHugger · 25/02/2017 05:30

Fish oil will improve your general health and always a benefit.

The magic pads are Fab. similar to Nip and tuck [I have both brands] but has a different ratio of ingredients and one extra. It works better on acne imo.
