Can you darken tan leather shoes?

If I buy dark tan shoe polish will it darken my leather tan shoes?

I'm not keen on the colour but think they'd look lovely dark brown..

I was annoyed because I preferred the lighter colour!

Oh I'm wondering which to get now then - at least I know it might work :)

I accidentally polished one of my brown boots with black polish and it went a much darker brown so I had to do the other one to match
