Is it possible to lighten grey hair?

I have almost white hair on the top of my head but the hair underneath is a dark grey and it looks horrible.

I was wondering if there is anything natural or some kind of home remedy that I could do that would lighten the darker hair?

My only other option is to go to the salon and see if they can do it but I don't really have the money for a salon treatment!

Have you tried the purple shampoos for grey and blonde hair? I have an aveda one but also one from boots. It reduces brassiness and makes the silvers more silvery. Apart from that, not sure if any over the counter things would help.

I think you're just looking at bleaching it, whether it's grey or any other colour bleach is the only way to lighten hair I think. It probably won't go white though, maybe more blond?
