Which counters will give me a sample?

I am travelling south in a couple of weeks and will have time in selfridges in the bull ring. I am sick of spending money on foundation to be disappointed with it at home. I'd like to get several samples and then buy online when home. Do counters give samples or do I have to buy something else too?

I got a sample from Estée Lauder. I told the lady I was looking for a foundation for my OH to buy me and I needed it matched to my skin.

She tried several ones, found the match, wrote the colour on a piece of paper and gave me a sample pot which lasted ages.

Clarins, bobby brown and Laura mercier are great for samples.
