Are leather biker jackets been and gone?

Just that really- and I mean leather not the plastic ones
Quite tempted after seeing Emilia Fox rocking one on tv and the slinky police woman in No offence (the younger one not the boss who also wore leather)

No way! I'm planning to get one after I finish paying off my credit card, hopefully in one more month! Grin Can't wait to get a leather jacket!

Pinkvici22 · 18/02/2017 08:36

Please tell me where that jacket is from missfliss

notskinnyasarake · 18/02/2017 08:49

I got a whistles one in the sale last spring, 350 down to 250. Worth every penny.

I agree that everything, including bikers, goes in and out of fashion but it depends how much you care about that?

Skinnies have gone out of fashion, no fashion people are still wearing them really, but they are still everywhere because people feel they suit them, suit their lifestyle and they like them. So they wear them.

Personally I dont like bikers at all but I have a denim jacket ive worn for 20 years when its been in, out and very out . But I dont care, I love it and it suits me.

So maybe think whether its something youre happy to wear regardless of fashion and what everyone else is doing. If you love it regardless then buy it.

mowglik · 18/02/2017 09:41

I agree variations on the theme (oversized, different colours) will wax and wane but I think the basic black biker will always be in fashion enough that you won't look like a throwback if you wear one.

I have a warehouse one from 15 years ago and it looks like it could have been bought from warehouse yesterday, so the style endures.

Floisme · 18/02/2017 09:42

I agree, in theory but fashion can be strange. I can think of several things I was sure were timeless and that I would wear for ever and ever...only to realise when they went out of fashion that I didn't actually love them as much as I thought. But that's me - shallow to the core. Grin

KoalaDownUnder · 18/02/2017 10:31

missfliss, that is gorgeous.

I don't think soft, buttery, high-quality leather bikers jackets are going out of style any time soon.

KoalaDownUnder · 18/02/2017 10:35

PinkVici, I just reverse image-searched it. Smile

koala thank you so much!

LoveMyLittleSuperhero · 18/02/2017 10:44

I have a black real leather biker jacket, bought from a biker shop, made for bikers. I wear it all year round every year for about the last five years. I've only ever had positive comments about it!
I think if you get a coloured one as PP have said it could end up looking dated quickly, and I would beware of 'trendy' collar shapes etc if you are worried about opinions, but if you love it does it matter? I know mine has at times been out of fashion, but paired with some well fitting jeans and a top although "out of fashion" it's a classic look everyone seems to appreciate.

KoalaDownUnder · 18/02/2017 10:46

Pinkvici You're welcome! Smile

Hope you get one. (I can't justify as already have similar and live in Aus so hardly ever need a jacket!)

LoveMyLittleSuperhero · 18/02/2017 10:47

I have one almost identical to this btw

Rephrase the question using 'leather blazer' and you'll know the answer. I think leather bikers will be around for a few seasons and then we all will feel that they look and feel dated and passé.

FrustratedFrugal · 18/02/2017 14:42

Case in point...

Are leather biker jackets been and gone?
Floisme · 18/02/2017 17:29

Yes I was thinking about those leather blazers too Frugal. I was so confident they would never go out of date - because what can be more timeless than a blazer!

I've also got a single breasted, A line suede coat in the cupboard somewhere...

LoisWilkersonsLastNerve · 18/02/2017 17:35

I've replaced mine with a black silky bomber jacket but only because it has ripped and I need to save for a new one!

RebelandaStunner · 18/02/2017 18:01

Wardrobe staple but over time will need an update otherwise I'd still be wearing my Michael Jackson inspired leather jacket from the 80's complete with humongous shoulder pads.

PacificDogwod · 18/02/2017 18:02

I think those blazers are quite different in that they once were achingly 'in' and then became painfully 'out' Grin
Whereas a black biker jacket may well wax and wane in popularity but while representing a bit of rebel chic never having been flash in the pan 'trend', they are also never truly horribly outdated either.

Or so I am telling myself hides shiny poo brown leather blazer

SpaghettiMeatballs · 18/02/2017 19:30

I looked amazing in my black leather blazer.

I think it was about 1998 and I was a size 8.

missfliss · 19/02/2017 13:05

pinkvicki and koala
Sorry wasn't here to answer but I see you found it!
I got mine in House of Fraser and I love it in RL too.

It's lively, it's washed leather so really really soft and nicely faded out in parts.
