Where can I order decent black skinnies from? They need to be high waisted and not go baggy around the knees between washes
Any recommendations? Ta

@chloechloe my solution is to buy primark where I'd have bought topshop. No difference in quality and if they DO go shit you've spent a tenner instead of fifty quid.

Paddingtonthebear · 18/02/2017 18:44

I've had topshop black jeans and primark black jeans. The topshop fade but keep their shape, the primark fade and go baggy quickly. And from first hand experience several times, you can buy two pairs of the same size and colour jeans from primark and one often doesn't fit, the quality is low so the sizing is all over the place. But they are a good option for £11

The black Topshop Jamie's I bought two weeks ago were £40. I find them very similar to the new Levi 711 jeans, which are fab but cost about £80

Paddington, similarly, I went shopping with the sole purpose of buying black skinnies. I found a pair in Levis: demi curve, fitted ok & cost £80. I asked the assistant to put them by for me. Went to M&S & tried on their super skinnies. They felt like a second skin and cost £19.99. No contest! A month later & they have held their shape and are still jet black.

I tend to wash them at 30 degrees, with other black and dark coloured fabrics and only use non-biological washing liquid. Not much use for salvaging your old ones, Chloe, but if you buy more, you could try it.

Kleptronic · 19/02/2017 00:34

I also recommend the M&S super skinnies. I'm an apple shape so normally anything which fits my belly is baggy on my legs. Not these, they're smashing. Also I'm a 14 in most other shops and a 12 in these, I'll take that as a win!

Oasis Riley. Very smooth almost silky texture. Very high waist and stretchy. Love them.

ChishandFips33 · 19/02/2017 09:35

I buy Matalan for £12
They only fade if you're scrubbing round on your knees a lot but not through washing. Don't go baggy

Hotwaterbottle1 · 19/02/2017 09:41

Anyone else short too, I need short length so it's even more difficult to buy!

ChishandFips33 · 19/02/2017 09:58

Matalan do 2 lengths 29 & 31 inches
I tallish but long in body and short in the leg

I buy 29's and roll them a little as I like a small gap between the hem and my ankle boots

LittleMachine · 19/02/2017 10:01

Does nobody else find that matalan/Primark/H&M/New Look black jeans have that horrible match stick smell? Am I just really sensitive to it? I buy blue and white jeans from them but the black ones smell awful.
I agree with the 360 jeans from Next, they're fantastic. I have to size up in them.

PNGirl · 19/02/2017 10:24

My Jamies are 18 months old and have never faded - I always wash them at 30 with black items and not too often. I know people who wash their black skinnies twice a week - no wonder they fade!

pigeondujour · 19/02/2017 10:43

My DP does the whole not washing your jeans thing, putting them in the fridge etc. It does seem to work but I just couldn't bring myself to do it. I wash them as infrequently as I can bear to but they still go baggy after so long even when they're heavy Levi's.

WomanScorned · 19/02/2017 11:52

I discoveredTop Shop Leigh, and stuck with them, as they do 34 length. However, since losing weight too quickly, even they're bagging within an hour. So, I've started over again. Standard Primark cheapies are fine, H&M a bit better, River Island fit me like jodphurs (sp) - not good. TK Macs have yielded a decent pair of 'butt lifters' - one of their own pretend brands, I suspect. But the best so far are some G-star,xproper jeans, from the charity shop. Lowish waist, which I find more flattering on my no-bum, feel like decent quality.

As for keeping them black, I'be gone back to good old Dylon. Chuck one in the washing machine, with the worst offenders, every 6 months. I've done this since I first started wearing black skinnies, in the 80s - they were 51 States, from Leicester market, back then, and the bottom 6 inches had to be stitched closed, then ripped open again to get them off! They were sold by waist size then, too. Oh, to be able to just ask for some 24s, hand over my £6 and go home happy. Sometimes, I think there's too much choice now.

But, yeah, black Dylon machine dye.

WomanScorned · 19/02/2017 11:55

Oops, should have reviewed that...

hunans · 19/02/2017 19:06

YY to the cheap denim smell. It's AWFUL.

chloechloe · 20/02/2017 07:55

I'll try the non-bio on my new Topshop ones cheap skate. I try not to wash them too often but with a toddler they invariably get smeared with snot and sticky fingers!

OutComeTheWolves · 20/02/2017 08:21

River island Molly jeans are fab.

cheapskatemum · 21/02/2017 20:16

Ah, you'll probably need judicial use of Vanish or other spot stain-removing stuff, chloe as 30 degrees does little more than freshen things up. You have taken me back more than 20 years to when DS1 was a baby & had a penchant for possetting down my Goth best friend's black tops!
