have run out of liz earle and can't justify another £20 on a moisturiser this month. what is the best one I can buy for ideally under about £12 locally?
Am 47 with normal skin but lately has been prone to breakouts!

I have combination skin, that is prone to both spot breakouts and rosacea like patches. I would definitely recommend Aveeno, but would also suggest Weleda - their almond cleansing/moisturising range is great. I have the almond cleanser, almond oil and almond lotion and my skin has never looked better.

notagiraffe · 12/02/2017 23:10

Nivea Q10. Lots of people are recommending ordinary Nivea daily moisturiser, but it can increase breakouts as it's pretty greasy (especially the one in the blue tin.) But Q10 is gorgeous - light, elasticky not greasy, absorbs quickly, plumps and brightens the skin. Almost always under £10. Often half price.

SophieGiroux · 12/02/2017 23:16

I agree with above, I've tried Nivea blue pot, Nivea Soft (white pot) and Astral. As they are petroleum based they all gave me breakouts and are definitely not non-comedogenic.

thenightsky · 12/02/2017 23:49

Not read full thread.

Currently using Nivea Q10 day cream with 15% spf.

I have mega sensitive skin and this has not caused any adverse reactions and feels lovely and rich. It was under £5 in wilko.

Botanicbaby · 12/02/2017 23:52

agree with PP who mentioned body shop vitamin e.

Joanna0685 · 13/02/2017 06:36

Boots Essentials moisturising cucumber cream, really good and cheap, I have very dry sensitive skin and it has never reacted.

skerrywind · 13/02/2017 06:48

Another vote for ALDI here, I use the soya serum and Caviar day cream, just lovely, not greasy, my face is soft and hydrated, and the creams are very cheap.

Reastie · 13/02/2017 07:13

Reading this thread just shows how different creams work so differently on different skins. I've tried a lot of the recommendations here (including euracin (can't spell), the Nivea ones, weleda and others) and they all have given me breakouts or haven't suited my skin.

In the morning I use a more expensive dr hauskha moisturiser but at night I use jojoba oil which is quite cheap and seems to work well.

NorksAreMessy · 13/02/2017 07:46

Nivea blue pot.

Used by my mother and my mother's mother. Cheap as chips so you can slather it on guilt free.
Does everything apart from SPF, but there is not a lot of S about at the moment.
Skin feels instantly smooth and dewy, it absorbs quickly, can be used as a body lotion, night cream, hand cream, foot cream and even, once, in a hotel, as shoe polish Grin
Plus the teeny tiny handbag pots are still made of metal, which seems adorably retro now

Deathraystare · 13/02/2017 07:47

I rate the Boots Time Delay but have not used it for a while. I have a loads of others to use up.

Agree with most of the above but cannot use Weleda myself (although it always has good reviews). Something in the base of the ingredients sets my face on fire (well, feels like). I tried a moisturiser and body cream and they both did this - my face felt like it was on fire but also itchy as hell. This was over 30 years ago and I have not dared try it again since!!

Nakedavenger74 · 13/02/2017 07:49

Boots Essentials Cucumber in the pot. A whole £1.50 and it works a dream. We get it sent over to NZ! Never found anything that comes close!

RedBugMug · 13/02/2017 07:51

weleda is great, but plant extracts are highly allergenic so not suitable for many with sensitive skin. the richer weleda creams also contain lanolin which can also irritate.

RedBugMug · 13/02/2017 07:52

that's the case for many natural products, not just weleda.

rainbox · 13/02/2017 08:14

I once listened to a Radio 4 feature about hedge funds, conglomerates or some other kind of faceless money making machine, and they had some guy from the consortium that owns (or owned) Simple. He was really scoffing about the vast number of people who bought his firm's products, believing they had "sensitive skin" but it was obvious he didn't really care so long as they were raking in the profits. It made me really cross. I buy a lot of Simple products - but not because I have sensitive skin - it's because I really can't stand smothering myself in perfumes, no matter how "natural" they claim to be.

boredwithabrokenfinger · 13/02/2017 08:25

I think you'll find a lot of consortium owners 'scoff' at their customers, rainbox. It's just they don't do it in public. The vast majority of business is run on greed.

MinesaPinot · 13/02/2017 09:03

I've tried a lot of moisturisers, high end to High Street. I can't get on with any of the Nivea creams - they always feel too thick and I get bad breakouts with them. Garnier Ultralift(?) was good, and often on 3 for 2 or on offer in either Boots or Superdrugs, but the one that really is working for me at the moment is L'Oreal Revitalift Laser Renew. I realise it doesn't fall into or under your £12 stated budget OP, but it's been the only one that I have repeatedly purchased.

Having said that, I am hearing good reviews of Boots Time Delay so may have to investigate that.....

MrsMeeseeks · 13/02/2017 09:59

Soap and Glory Beauty Sleep Accelerator is amazing and usually £10 for a decent-sized jar.

Lilacpink40 · 13/02/2017 10:33

I'm with the majority (I think) here. Nivea Q10. No breakouts and feels like it plumps my skin.

AuntNancy · 13/02/2017 11:03

Love Eucerin but I do have quite dry sensitive skin.

It's above the price range but I've been really, really impressed with the M&S Ultimate Sleep Cream - I got it in a set with the SPF20 Day Cream - £40 for the two, with 50% off before Christmas. Skin feels so lovely in the morning, all soft and silky.

KieraCameron · 13/02/2017 11:10

E45 or Simple. They are the only ones that I can use on my face.

GreenShadow · 13/02/2017 17:02

Do the Nivea Q10 products have that distinctive Nivea smell? I used to like it as a child, but not so much now.

Jojoanna · 13/02/2017 17:15

Used Nivea in the blue tin for years. Suits my skin

Lilacpink40 · 14/02/2017 22:57

Yes Nivea Q10 has the nivea smell GreenS. I love it.

GreenShadow · 15/02/2017 20:34

Thanks Lilac
