have run out of liz earle and can't justify another £20 on a moisturiser this month. what is the best one I can buy for ideally under about £12 locally?
Am 47 with normal skin but lately has been prone to breakouts!

Body Shop Vitamin E cream - 13 quid but always on 3 for 2. The only thing I've ever used that was better was Pro-Collagen Marine Cream for £££.

Hercules12 · 12/02/2017 15:45

Nivea in white tin for day and astral for night. Together will be under a tenner and I think much better than expensive stuff.

NancyDonahue · 12/02/2017 16:28

Nivea Daily here too. I've used it for years. It has spf15.

PossumInAPearTree · 12/02/2017 16:35

Olay total effects. The one which has spf 15.

myfavouritecolourispurple · 12/02/2017 17:14

Another vote for Nivea here. I also use Liz Earle from time to time but Nivea is a much cheaper option.

katseyes7 · 12/02/2017 17:29

l use Superdrug's own brand Naturally Radiant. They often do a bogof so you can get 2 for £5.99. lt smells gorgeous, the day cream has SPF15, and the hot cloth cleanser is beautiful, if you're used to Liz Earle. And if you have a loyalty card, they deliver free, no matter how small your order is.

Another vote for Nivea here. I swear by the stuff for my 'winter skin'. I use the one in the white bottle with blue writing, express hydration for normal/dry skin. Costs about £3.50 for 250ml.

beanfilledfish · 12/02/2017 18:18

Wow lots to look at thank you

It's not from Boots, but if you have an Aldi near you I use their Q10 day and night creams. They are packaged to look very like Nivea and cost £1.99 each (or something in the region - demo under £2).
Anyway, they're fab. My skin is sensitive, but also prone to breakouts, and they work perfectly. Not too greasy, but lovely and moisturising, and form a good base under make up.
I also like the Boots Botanics day and night creams with ginkgo, or anything from the Superfacialist Una Brennan range.

DagenhamRoundhouse · 12/02/2017 19:11

Can anyone recommend a night moisturiser for my rosacea-riddled skin? I also get those little bumps along with the redness. I was using Avene for rosacea but like all the other creams, it's useless. So just need something mild and non irritating and not too hydrating as my skin isn't that dry. Grateful for advice! (Sorry if it seems I'm hijacking thread.)

Simple

EggsEleven · 12/02/2017 19:29

I'm on maternity leave at the mo so am cutting back on my spending and have ditched my usual Clarins and Dermalogica. Recently bought Time Delay serum, day moisturiser and night cream and the are all good imo. The day cream has an spf in it too.

travailtotravel · 12/02/2017 19:44

bigger brances of boots, Avene is really good. I also rate Cetaphil but can't use it all the time and can't always find it in Boots.
My other rate is Steam Cream.

blowmybarnacles · 12/02/2017 20:27

Olay, has an SPF and specifically states it doesn't block pores which covers all bases for me. Different ranges from basic cream, anti-aging, sensitive, serums.

I try other stuff and always come back to it

blowmybarnacles · 12/02/2017 20:31

DagenhamRoundhouse, have you tried The New Dawn range?

here

I've used some of their stuff for various child and baby related skin things and its fab!

LuxuryWoman2017 · 12/02/2017 20:35

I love the Superdrug Vitamin E range. Cheap as chipswich. I love the facial oil for an overnight treat and it's great on my cuticles too. The day moisturiser is very light but great on my dry skin.

LuxuryWoman2017 · 12/02/2017 20:37

chips not that weird word my phone decided on.

motleymop · 12/02/2017 20:38

Not a product recommendation but I wouldn't be at all surprised if it was that Liz Earl causing the breakouts.

thesockgap · 12/02/2017 20:43

Lacura Q10 cream from Aldi is the best moisturiser I've ever used. I think it's about £2.99 a tube. :)

Nettletheelf · 12/02/2017 20:49

Time Delay spf 15 day cream was on offer for £5 in my local Boots. It is the business.

fuckingwall · 12/02/2017 20:50

Go to aldi instead and buy lacura.

justnippingin · 12/02/2017 21:51

Nivea blue pot.

fadingfast · 12/02/2017 21:55

Nivea Q10 night and day, or if I'm feeling really frugal Nivea daily.

boredwithabrokenfinger · 12/02/2017 22:04

Simple Regeneration

It's often on offer for as little as £2.50.

rainbox · 12/02/2017 22:10

I use this one because it's light, cheap, non-comodogenic (doesn't block pores), fragrance free and SPF 15 ...
www.superdrug.com/Simple/Simple-Regeneration-Age-Resisting-Day-Cream-SPF-15-50ml/p/949248

From memory Ben Goldacre's book Bad Science has a good chapter on moisturisers. Basically don't bother with the expensive varieties because there's no evidence that they do anything special. Just buy anything non-comodogenic, and with as high an SPF as possible.
