Help! How do I fade hair dye?

ATruthUniversallyAcknowledged · 11/02/2017 17:59

Got my hair coloured today. I hate it. It's far too dark for my skin tone and makes me look like a ghost. Is there a way to fade it or do I just need to sit it out?

Head and shoulders can fade hair dye a bit

GinIsIn · 11/02/2017 18:27

Alternate washing with head and shoulders and fairy washing up liquid

Gingerbreadmam · 11/02/2017 18:27

washing powder.

Washing up liquid?!

Will it damage my hair? I don't want dried out horrible coloured hair!

Wash it every day

preciouspig · 11/02/2017 18:29

Head and shoulders

GinIsIn · 11/02/2017 18:30

It shouldn't do! After all, it doesn't dry out your hands when you wash up.... I've only needed to do it once but this did work for me.

GinIsIn · 11/02/2017 18:31

If you google fairy liquid hair dye lots comes up about it, including previous threads on here.

Imnotaslimjim · 11/02/2017 18:33

Anti-dandruff shampoo. Washing up liquid will work but can dry out your hair. You can fix that with a deep conditioning treatment. Soak your hair in any conditioner, wrap your head in a carrier bag and sit under a hot shower for 10 minutes then rinse with cool water

ATruthUniversallyAcknowledged · 11/02/2017 18:35

Okaaaaaay. I'm off for a shower with a bottle of fairy.

I would wait. Often it is just the initial reaction and then you get over it. I had this recently when I got mine done and thought it was too dark.

The best way to fade hair colour is with vitamin c and head and shoulders shampoo. Finely Ground up 2 or 3 large dispersible vitamin c tablets (put them in a food bag and crush with a rolling pin) then mix the powder in a bowl with a good old dollop of the sampoo, it will go all frothy. Wet hair and apply the mixture, massage in and then put a shower cap on. Go about you business for 30-60 mins, then rinse out thoroughly and condition your hair well. It really works and can be repeated again and again until you are happy with the result. Good luck!

Vosene worked a treat at stripping my colour out.

neveradullmoment99 · 11/02/2017 18:50

Crushed vit c tablets mixed with ant-dandruff shampoo. Its on you tube. Worked to lighten mine.

ATruthUniversallyAcknowledged · 11/02/2017 19:16

I've tried the fairy. It's not seeming much lighter. I guess I'm going to have to live with it.

Would it be okay to call the hairdresser and ask them to put a note on my profile saying this colour is to dark so I don't accidentally get it again in future?

Can't you go back? They'll want you to be happy (or happier) with their work. There WILL be a way for them to lighten you a bit. Don't damage your hair.... that'd be self defeating. Seriously, go back to them.

ATruthUniversallyAcknowledged · 11/02/2017 20:04

I'll give them a call on Monday and see what they say. Now I've washed it and styled it myself I can tell I like the cut and I like how shiny it is but it's too dark near my face. I'm wondering if a few highlights might lift it a bit.

Head and shoulders stripes colour as it has such a high pH

Dontsayyouloveme · 11/02/2017 21:36

Scott Cornwall colourb4! I have darkish brown hair, diy dye and it came out sodding jet black. I used this and it stripped lots out and left a nice chestnutty colour! Read instructions carefully though to check you can use it. Not sure it will work if you've e we dyed it blonde...

Dontsayyouloveme · 11/02/2017 21:37

Ever dyed it blonde..... obvs it's not blonde now Smile

Tarbert · 11/02/2017 21:41

My hairdresser recommends head and shoulders for striping out hair dye. (Or, put it the other way, not using Head and Shoulders if you want to keep the colour).
