'Uniform' dressing

Morning everyone.
A couple of years ago we had several threads discussing the concept of uniform dressing. It was supposed to make getting dressed quicker and also to help manage wardrobe space much better.
I dismissed it at the time thinking it wasn't for me but I'm now reconsidering.
I have too many clothes, no personal style plus due to some upcoming lifestyle changes in the next year or two ,I may find myself with much less wardrobe space than currently.

So, does anyone do this? If so what is your 'uniform'. Do you have more than one uniform/outfit base?
Did you try it but find that it didn't work for you?

I think everyone has a uniform really .. some of mine are:

Work( which is v smart) - trousers suit, pencil dress, pencil skirt silk blouse non coordinating jacket or 7/8 trousers. Silk blouse coordinating jacket

Weekend: skinnies and baggy jumper, biker jacket or floaty dress and biker jacket

I am just exploring the possibilities of leather leggings - but really this is uniform - I am swapping skinnies for leggings.

I am also starting to wear girlfriend jeans - with a baggy jumper but half tucked in at the front or a silk blouse ( if it ever gets warm enough)

I think your 'uniform' depends on your lifestyle and what you do with your time. I think having a 'uniform' makes it very easy to become stuck in a style rut e.g. If you only tend to wear jeans, sweaters and trainers you tend to graviatate towards those things only when buying new clothes.

I buy things I like but make sure that they'll fit in with my lifestyle so that I'll be able to wear them.

I have a uniform but only because I have a limited number of clothes!

I have five dresses for work with flat black boots
One pair blue jeans
One pair black jeans
One pair weekend boots
One pair sneakers
I've about four / five weekend jumpers
Two going out dresses
Two / three going out tops

I follow bloggers and am 😳 at the sheer amount of clothes they have. Yet they still look uniform! Both in their own look and relative to each other.

The idea of a uniform bores me to tears.

I've never seen a sample uniform style suggested without it being the exact same things:

A black blazer!
A white shirt!
A Breton tee!
A navy shift dress!

Zzzzzzz........

I don't work in an office - why on earth would I need to own either a black blazer or a crisp white shirt?

And life's too short not to go into New Look and buy something bright and garish and fun just cos it's cheerful.

Isn't uniform in this context more restricted, like having two pairs of the same trousers and 5 of the same shirt and wearing them every day but varying the accessories?

I couldn't do it as I like pattern too much. And I rather like being different versions of myself on different days.

Would be really interested to hear other peoples experiences though. I have read quite a lot about Project 333 and have KM'd my clothes (but kept lots with prints)

I wear

Skinny or mom jeans with an oversized jumpers and either van high tops, Nike air or heeled suede boots. If it's warm I'll swap the jumper for a blouse with sleeves rolled up and buttoned all the way up.

I sometimes wear crew neck slim fitting jumpers, or long sleeved tops or jersey mix polo striped polo necks. Sleeves pushed up.

Leather jacket or cocoon coat from all saints.

Hair is a bit like Claudia winkleman, not at dark.

I'm trying to mainly look French.

Not a uniform as such but on a weekend I would put together 5+ outfits for the week ahead. It made life a lot easier and would force me to use things in my wardrobe that never saw the light of day.

I think I have a "uniform style" in that it's consistent and quite easily defined as "me", but lots of different items and variations in there. I think this is probably not what you mean.

I definitely err towards uniform dressing I think it suits my personality (anal lol). When I worked in an office I wore black trousers and some sort of silky or cotton shirt and a black jacket. Now I work at home but still wear a uniform - jeans and either a white or navy tee shirt. Cardigan in the winter. And a navy jersey blazer if I go out in the summer. Obviously I do have the occasional variation to this but I like being able to just get a clean tee shirt and some jeans out every day and not think twice about it.

I've been working my way to a capsule wardrobe for the best part of a year, and while I now probably have less than a quarter of the clothing I had before, everything fits and everything gets worn.

My office is smart/casual so I generally wear black 7/8 trousers with a t-shirt and a jersey blazer. Sometimes just with a cashmere jumper.

Weekends I wear t-shirts or jumper with jeans. I have a few different styles and mix it up with boots, so I don't look too samey! My weekend t-shirts tend to be logo ones.

Life is so much easier. This time last year I had an entire chest of drawers filled with clothes I didn't wear, a stuffed wardrobe and three or four staples either being washed or being worn. What's the point of that?

Interesting. At one time I'd have said no but there was a recent thread where I realised nearly all my style heroes have their own distinctive look eg Katharine Hepburn.
I think I have a few. My go-to is a tube skirt with something loose on top. I'm starting to feel a bit restless with it but it suits my shape and both work and leisure.
Second is old-school relaxed skinnies with a tailored jacket - love a bit of tweed - and a graphic T shirt just peeping through. Kind of Patti Smith meets Miss Marple.
Love a 50s coat to throw over everything but they're getting hard to find.
For spring I'm moving into relaxed ankle length trousers with silk or cotton shirt and brogues.
But I also get bored and like to shake tthings up. I think the question is how to stop a uniform turning into a rut?

My "uniform" is a variety of plain black/grey/navy tops - vest tops and long and short sleeve tees. I have a handful of cardigans and a poncho for layering. Then for work I wear black trousers and at weekends I wear skinny jeans. Shoes are black flats, sandals or uggs depending on weather and occasion (work, weekend, going out etc)
I sometimes buy something completely different to my usual style but 95% of my time I wear my "uniform". It's just easier to get dressed but more importantly I feel comfy, I know I look good and am not self conscious over my appearance so I can focus more on enjoying what I'm doing and less paranoid about looking ok

Weekend is similar tbh but jeans or older things if I'm round the house,

I have loads of clothes but I guess they do fall into uniforms- at the moment, work is shift dresses (sleeveless) over a roll neck and with thick tights, play is mini skirt, biker boots, again often a roll neck with a jumper over! Will change as the weather does I guess.

I think if you're saying uniform in terms of "every day I wear black trousers and a white shirt" I agree that is well boring.

But ... there are just things that suit me and things that don't. I am little. I look daft I things that swamp me. I need neat fitted things and waist definition. So that means pencil skirts and dresses and cigarette pants and skinnies and not tent dresses from cos or loon pants

so if that is uniform then that is fine by me! I don't think it is boring because ther is enough variety available in what suits, and I will take slightly boring over looking ridiculous anyway.

I don't like having a 'set look'. I got bored. It felt as though I had no imagination, creativity or fun with clothes.
My clothes are categorized though. I like to have 90s (hangover) days, land girl days, chanel days (zara copies), i used to be a goth days, normal highstreet days, 70s days.......
I never have sporty days. I don't own any trainers.
I guess I guess i have uniform makeup, that's generally the same.
Today I'm in turn up jeans, a white tee and a baseball jacket. Sort of rebel without a cause goes to the Grease high school.

I am under 5 foot with 32FF boobs. My uniform is anything I can find in the shops which fits and doesn't make me look like a weeble

I wear black skinny trousers or jeans, varying lengths; black ankle boots; loose or slim fit tops in black, navy or charcoal grey in natural fibres. All without embellishment. I changed textures occasionally.
I love it and I just decorate with coloured jewellery. Bags are simple and black too.
It is great fun and simple but totally boring and not creative.
