Too old for FatFace?

FluffyJawsOfDoom · 03/02/2017 10:27

I stopped breastfeeding my 20 month old son a fortnight ago and I finally feel like my body is my own for the first time in 3 years!

I saw this in the window of my local Fat Face and love it, but - honest opinions please - is this sort of thing only suitable for teens and 20-somethings? My 33rd birthday is next month (how the hell did that even happen?!) and it'll be my first clothing purchase since I got pregnant 3 years ago, so I feel thoroughly out of my depth and don't want to look like a total and utter tit.....

I've no idea what mummy is either but I guess I must be it as most of my clothes are fat face. Come to think of it most of ds clothes are fat face too, their kids clothes are great!

I like fat face stuff. I find it fits well, washes well and isn't too 'trendy', but also not dreary, I do find some of their wrap style things too low cut for me and a few bits I've had off eBay (so therefore haven't been able to try on) have been too low and needed a vest underneath.

Their jeans are nice, particularly the flares they currently have in the outlets which are cut for a more curvy figure I find so are very forgiving of my slightly lumpy post baby posterior.

I'm 47 and wouldn't wear Fat Face. Find its colours, shapes and colours dreary.

I'm an ASOS, The Outnet, Other Stories, Top Shop, Mango, Joseph, Masimo Duti and Zara shopper.

It came, and it's fabulous! Fits nicely, and it's plain enough that everything I own goes with it (I am a knitter, I have a shed load of handknit cardi's). Love it.

I don't know what "mumsy" is specifically, but I would hazard a guess that people don't want to look "mumsy" because we're all more than "just" someone's mum - we're individuals in our own right, but I think in the early years of motherhood that can sometimes get a bit lost and drowned out amidst the day-to-day monotony of food-clothe-bathe-clean, can't it? "mumsy"ness is somehow synonymous with a loss of individuality and personal identity.

fluffy I'm glad you love it. I'm off to fatface tomorrow to try and get some jeans.

Was about to post to say you can only be too young for Fat Face IMO - according to the look on the face of my tween DD if I drag her in there, anyway Smile

Talk about a late response. This post is from 2017. The OPs child will be in school now.

I can't see the link/specific dress but imo Fatface is a middle of the road brand which is aimed at people at all different ages but probably on balance an older demographic (in the way I'd say New Look targets a younger demographic). They tend to allow lots of room for busts and bellies which become more common as we get older.

Its not a fashion forward brand so you're never going to look like you tried too hard or missed a fashion memo and got it wrong.

I agree with pps that you are more likely to be too young. Only in the sense that you may be wearing their type of clothes for the rest of your life if you start now.
