Too old for FatFace?

FluffyJawsOfDoom · 03/02/2017 10:27

I stopped breastfeeding my 20 month old son a fortnight ago and I finally feel like my body is my own for the first time in 3 years!

I saw this in the window of my local Fat Face and love it, but - honest opinions please - is this sort of thing only suitable for teens and 20-somethings? My 33rd birthday is next month (how the hell did that even happen?!) and it'll be my first clothing purchase since I got pregnant 3 years ago, so I feel thoroughly out of my depth and don't want to look like a total and utter tit.....

Definitely not too old. I'm 35 and I have a few things from Fat Face. I don't like all of their stuff but I find the odd casual thing that I really like, I bought this last week as I'm a sucker for anything blue and/or stripy: www.fatface.com/knitwear/bella-stripe-jumper/invt/920184#ff_colour=Vintage%20Blue

I quite like FatFace, I'm 37. I like the knitwear and some plainer tops - find some of their prints a bit busy. FatFace tends to sell really well on Ebay, even if its seasons old, so when i get bored of stuff i sell on there. You can also pick up good FF bits on there too, esp smaller sizes.

Bluebellevergreen · 04/02/2017 07:36

I love fatface
I am 35. DH likes it too and he is 40

MewlingQuim · 04/02/2017 07:37

I like fat face, I'm 45.

I know younger people who like the stuff but find it too expensive. I don't mind paying for it because it feels nice and I know it washes well and lasts.

The young can buy cheap fashion at new look, top shop, H&M etc., as I did at that age, until they get old enough to stop caring about fleeting trends and figure out its better value to spend more on something that doesn't fall apart after 2 washes Smile

Fuck me I sound like my mum Shock

DrScholl · 04/02/2017 07:51

Sorry. Fat face is for old people imo. And chuffing dreary old white stuff

SpaghettiMeatballs · 04/02/2017 07:55

I like Fat Face. Possibly because it's the best shop in my small town and I don't get time to go shopping in the city with two small DCs.

I like the fact they have real sales where items are significantly reduced.

Spudlet · 04/02/2017 07:59

I'm 33 and I get the odd bit in there. I find some of it to be a bit too old, but for casual sweaters you can't beat it IMO. I also have dungarees from there which I love (and DH hates grin])

Thisrabbitthatrabbit · 04/02/2017 08:00

Well I'm 22 and wearing that dress today, I hope I don't look ridiculous.

NovaArt3mis · 04/02/2017 08:02

I worked in a FatFace when I was 16, rarely anyone under 35/40 came in.

We had to wear stock to work and the only thing I could pull off was jeans and their vests/plain t's.

They do a cracking tri-fold leather wallet that I buy for my DH every few years though!

FluffyJawsOfDoom · 04/02/2017 20:49

morethanus sadly not! It also has stained my bedsheets, I need to replace those too!

I like FatFace and I'm 56 Smile I like the natural fabrics and decent colours. "Young" shops are full of flowery polyester and "old" ones of beige acrylic. Shop where you're happy, OP.

Judydreamsofhorses · 05/02/2017 01:23

I think on Fatface as being aimed at the 45+ market. My mum, who just turned 70, likes their stuff.

HarrietSchulenberg · 05/02/2017 01:46

I'm 46 and have loved Fatface for years. And some things from Seasalt, Mantaray and White Stuff. I wouldn't be caught dead in Next, Top Shop, Zara etc because the clothes are clingy, wonky-seamed and uniformly dull.

I went into Next recently for the first time in years and hadn't seen so much cheap polyester in one place since 1978.

Pippioddstocking · 05/02/2017 01:49

Fat face is aimed at the middle aged mumsey type .

user1471545174 · 05/02/2017 07:15

I think of the flowery polyester resurgence as a massive con-trick against the young, Harriet.

BikeRunSki · 05/02/2017 07:21

If anything, you are too young for FatFace.

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 05/02/2017 07:33

This thread reminds me why I don't really look at S&B much. What's with all the comments putting down other people's clothing preferences? Most of us using this site are mums (the clue's in the site name) so why is it (in some people's eyes) such a deadly insult to describe someone as 'mumsy'?

DrScholl · 05/02/2017 13:19

because no one wants to look mumsy

Too old for FatFace?
Manijo · 05/02/2017 15:11

I wouldn't shop there and I'm 52. Way too mumsy. My kids would think I've lost the plot. The same goes for White Stuff, Monsoon etc.

Floisme · 05/02/2017 15:22

I think self hating is a really bad look. And seriously weird.

BusterGonad · 05/02/2017 15:27

I love flowery polyester! I want this, I badly want it....

Too old for FatFace?
booellesmum · 05/02/2017 15:32

I'm 44 and shop in FatFace all the time.

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 05/02/2017 15:33

I genuinely don't know what mumsy means. I strongly suspect I look it, though, and always have. So what? Seriously, what on earth does it matter what anyone else looks like? We all wear clothes that we like, that we can afford, that we feel comfortable in, that we can afford to launder and (where relevant) that fit in with our work dress code. As long as an outfit is free of odours, doesn't expose the genitals and doesn't have offensive slogans on it, I don't care and I can't imagine wanting to make anyone else feel worse about themselves by telling them that their chosen clothes/shop is [insert putdown of choice].

Rant over!

blueskyinmarch · 05/02/2017 15:36

I wear loads of Fat Face. I am 54.

BusterGonad · 05/02/2017 15:52

Harriet I don't think you can call Topshop dreary tbh, it's quite the opposite! Some things are very strange! Grin
