Skincare routine advice & foundation for 40's skin

I'm 42 and I'be never had a proper skin care routine, just wash & moisturise. I'm starting to see signs of aging on my face & neck and think I need to make more effort but really not sure what I should be doing.

My skin is quite dry but I do get spots now & then. I have dark areas under my eyes which I've always had and never really found anything to cover them well.

I am on medication long term which probably isn't helping my skin, I certainly think I've aged quicker since taking it.

I have some Debenhams vouchers and am wondering if I should splash out on some of the more expensive skin care out there. Is it really any better than the cheaper stuff? I have tried quite a few cheaper things from Boots & supermarkets but they often seem to irritate my skin.

Also, what kind of foundation is good for 40+ skins? I got a tester the other day of the EL cushion stick. I quite liked it until I wore it to work and my boss said, 'are you ok, you really don't look very well'!! Needless to say I won't be buying that!

Any advice would be great please.

Im 42. Dry/sensitive skin. Eczema on my arms, sometimes on my face. Out in all weathers running.

My routine is Nivea facial wipes, Nivea night cream (morning and night) and good old fashioned Nivea thick cresm all over. Dont get dry patches anymore.

My foundation i L'oreal True Match. Not at all cakey, its light enough and you can add more of it if its for a night out.

Oh I also use Clinique Moisture Surge in the winter but i really think Nivea is much better. I have used Clinique foundation but its so expensive and True Match is much nicer.
