I am treating my sister to afternoon tea, its in a bar in a city.
What should i wear? Black trousers and a nice blouse do you think?

Sounds perfect. I've seen people go in jeans and trainers and people go in dresses and heels, so honestly I think whatever you feel comfortable and confident in will work well.

Ok heres to finding a new blouse then ☺

we all wore jeans when we went....but it was with 2 kids who are at uni and the place was very cold....specific to that venue as it was old and quite open. so wear what you fancy.

I'd wear a tea dress for sure. I love dresses. And a dress especially made for tea is the best!

I think it's about finding something that will make you feel good rather than a dress code of some sorts. Last time we went for afternoon tea at a posh hotel I wore a soft jumper and linen trousers and ballet pumps. The time before it was a midi skirt with tucked in T and a cropped cardi.

Bubbinsmakesthree · 03/02/2017 16:07

I expect there's no need to wear anything fancy - in fact I have sat next to people wearing shell suits at posh hotel afternoon tea (probably in a 'rich American tourist' way but still, shell suits ).

If it is a special occasion for you by all means dress up a bit, but avoid going OTT if it's likely to leave you feeling uncomfortable.

I'd probably aim for 'classy smart-casual' - e.g. Nice jeans, heels, cashmere-style jumper and some jewellery.
