I will be filming for a TV show next month and need to bring several different tops (lower half unseen).

Just after some advice as to what looks good on screen in terms of colour, pattern, fabric etc.

Anyone got any tips? Cheers!

We need to know the TV show! Crimewatch? Loose women? Tell us it is Jeremy Kyle or Judge Rinder!!

If it is Only Connect I will be really impressed.

YY depends on the show. Is it Embarrassing Bodies? If it is, something you can take off easily.

I worked as a researcher in TV as a new graduate, and we would advise people to avoid close stripes - either way - and small prints like gingham/dogtooth checks, because they can strobe on transmission. (Mainly just really distracting and annoying for viewers.) If you're part of an audience/group a bold, plain colour works best, or a print which is fairly distinctive, so leopard print instead of floral (which can look muddy unless it's very bold), for example.

I know you didn't ask about makeup, but the camera can really wash you out. Off air people like newscasters and hosts tend to look quite dramatic, whereas on screen they look "normal".

It's a game show involving a big clock.

Thanks Judy, that's really helpful. My make up is generally quite dramatic at the best of times so I should hopefully fare ok!

Basically avoid anything that could be described as "ditsy". And also it will be very hot. Accept all offers of powder, and don't wear anything that could have visible sweat patches.

This show with a big clock, is the studio blue and white themed? Don't wear that shade of blue... and good luck! How exciting.
