Help me sort this weird shaped but lovely jumper

DH bought me this jumper for Christmas and I've had it on a few times but it's shaped really weird.

First of all the gather at the bottom doesn't "spread out" like it does on the model it's all pinched together and hangs like a pouch. Tbh that's OK I could put up with that but together with the weird neck it just all looks wrong.

The neck just does not sit right. It's so low that if I don't weather a vest top in end up with a whole boob on show (well a whole bra cup but still!) But if I do wear a vest top under it I think it takes the nice trendy look off the jumper.

I normally weather a plain black vest top under it but I'm thinking maybe trying a different colour or style of top underneath?

Any chance of a picture with you in it? Is it too big for you?

Could you wear it backwards

If the gather is just on elastic then you should be able to spread the material out? If you do have to wear a vest top then white would look better than black.

yes wear it backwards how about a black thin polo neck underneath?

Or unpick/pull the elastic out? Stitch the bottom of the v neck up so it's not so deep?

Yes buster it is too big for me. It must be really big made 🙈

If you see on the model how the electric spreads across her tummy? It doesn't do that on me the elastic is so strong it sits bunched up at the front completely unstretched.

Stitching the top up is a great idea but I wouldn't be able to pick the elastic out it would ruin the jumper.

I don't have a picture of myself in it but I'll will try to take one today or tomorrow 😂

But is the fabric actually stitched to the elastic?

Oh no op, is it too late to exchange it for another size, there must be something you can do about the bottom of the jumper! Can you turn it up and stick it to make a proper hem then cut the ruched gem off????

I would carefully cut off those criss crossy straps at the front and then wear it with a white vest or fitted t shirt underneath, going for a casual off the shoulder look.

I know I agree but it's the criss cross straps I like 😭😭 if I cut them off it just looks like every other grey jumper I have (I seem to have a lot 😐)

I did think if you cut the straps off your dh might say, What on earth have you done to that nice jumper I bought you?

Yeah would probably say something like oh I haven't seen you wearing that jumper I got you 😂😂😂

Can you unpick the side seams by the ruche and tighten it up? Maybe tighten the straps from the back of the jumper too???

To be honest it sounds like it might be a lost cause. You could put it on ebay - it is still current stock at River Island and not in the sale- and buy something else instead.

If it's still current stock why don't you try and exchange it for the smaller size?

Is it still current stock? When I looked on the website this find a picture to put it on here I had to Google it I couldn't find it on the website 🙈 I think the picture I found was from very and it's out of stock on there.
